Hmmm I started in the poser community as Wynterfyre, Which i used on geocities Chatrooms long time ago. Chose that name because I was blond, light skinned, blue eyes (reminds people of winter) fyre because below the surface people recognized a burning below the skin. After things happened with the Poserforum (before they moved from the now Rosity)I went to another chatroom and was rage. (a nick name i have had for a while) Everytime i would get angry in that chatroom a storm would happen (not in the chatroom but wherever the person was,that i was mad at, was where the storm was. People called me rage storm. I changed it to Rage of the Storms for a while, then shortened it to Stormrage once I was allowed back on the reborn Rosity. I don't think I will change it now. I like the name too much

I chose mine cuz all the other 50,000+ skydivers took all the other names already......Igohigh seems to fit however since I also can't resist a good bungee jump or cliff on the ski slopes. Always in need of an Altitude-Adjustment!

Oddly, when i signed onto Renderosity, i specifically did not pick a nickname for professional reasons... i do a bit of illustration here and there, freelance, so i just kept it close to Nan Fredman. Yeah, normal. Which is the REAL disguise for me! Hah! Me normal? (More weirdness: Fredman is a Swedish name, and i look about as Swedish as... well, Frodo Baggins.) For years i have really been red_sonja online--since the time that e-mail was a special thing that only companies on ARPANET had. i felt a kinship to Howard's female Slavic freedom-fighter, in spirit if not in appearance--and probably because i look nothing like Brigit Nielsen! You will probably all think I am weird but... 1996 was a tough year, ugly divorce and lost my job (Artist/teacher/director of an intergenerational arts program). I had 4 kids under to feed and no money for things like car insurance, gas, etc. so job opportunities were tough. Now we go weird... I have always been interested in the occult, spirituality (used to play church), etc. and learned how to read runes. Well, my little town opened a New age store and I checked it out and the next thing I knew I became a reader. Made enough money for us to get by on till I found a "real" job in a ladies dresss shop. ( the readings were more fun but putting entertainer on my 1040 was too weird).In the begining it was slow so we all got very close and nicknames started. I am Barbara, I became Barbarella but more in a Cinderella way cause I was always cleaning. (the other name they tried to start was Babzilla but I put a stop to that.) Any way, our first online account came through one of my daughters around that time and she had power of the screen names, she put me in as Barbarella, when she discovered there were others she added the ny for NY. It stuck. My Hotmail account is Alulubelle.( what my mom always told me I was) The picture is one of my first poser attempts. Looks like me enough and is what I send to all those pesky people who want my photo online. lol

It would seem that great minds do think alike. Well the name " Senjin" came from my favorite author: Eric Van Lusterbader. When I was in the army and in the hospital. I had nothing to do but read.( it's hard to do anything else when you are in traction for 124 days. ) Well he created this character that was a bad guy but after reading the second book: " the Miko" you see just why the guy is bad and why he did the things that he did in the first book. " The Ninja." well i liked the character so much that when I first came on line I decided that it would be my handle and over the years many of my friends have asked why and then I would let them borrow the books to read for themseleves. Then they would come back with: " Hey Barry, that guy is so evil. You are nothing like him." I just laughed and always told them that they would have to know me better to understand why I like him so much. Over time many of them have seen that the character and I are a lot alike. I trained in Japan and think in the same way they do. But it was not till something major happened that they found out just what it was that I trained in. Now all of them understand why I chose that name. Later came Paradox and I have chosen it as my second handle, because my Sensi last words to me were that this is what I am and who I shall always be. So I guess what I am getting at is, I think we chose our handles because of the verious parts of our being or because we think the name sounds cool.LOL Anyway Ron is a good bud and seems to be in the: "Paradox" state of mind

I used to be a big comics fan, especially the X-Men, so when it came time to come up with an e-mail address I wanted to use xman66 (I have a big shiny quarter for the first person who knows the significance of the number 66 in X-Men history), but that was taken, so I added 2000 to the end, that being the year I got online. So x2000 is just a shortened version of my e-mail address and I use it everywhere I go on the net. I've thought about switching to something more creative, but everybody who knows me online knows me by the name x2000, so what the hell. My real name is Mike, so nothing too original there, either...;)

Interesting thread. No easy answer as I tend to be a rather complexed person - who for a multitude of reasons has always preferred to keep company with shadows. From a poem I wrote - in what now seems long ago:

Ron. The character you are talking about was in the second book. The miko and she was the wife of Senjin, althought this was not riveled till nick killed her. but you are right we have never talked about the books and i didn't know you liked his work. I have every book written by him and I mean the hard backs. I wish he was still writing, but after his wife dies I think it took the spark out of his writing. But at lease we both share the same author and you are right it has been over a year since we met.LOL

Chohole is actually a very posh name. It is the name of the place I live, like in Chohole Gate lodge, which is a gate lodge of one of the Royal Parks in London, so I actually live on part of the Crown estates. I have been given permission to use it as a name, and for a website if I ever get one. I couldn't use my Name, cos there are a couple of Pam's already.

Ookami = japanese word for WOLF My Algonquin name is Wolf against the Moon So Ookami is my first name in japanese! =)

"Valandar" is my screen name on virtually everything Online. And there is nothing I have found where it was taken by anyone else. It began as a name for a character in a game of D&D, and I just happened to like the name. A friend, about a year and a half ago, looked it up in a dictionary of Tolkein Elven, and discovered it translated to "Lord of Power From On High", so I kept it. 8-D

I have been "Ma" online for more than 3 years. The link explains the reason that I adopted it when I was taking online classes. Now I have trouble signing "Diane" to anything...I am too used to being "Ma". I am also "bknoh" here and lots of other places. It stands for "Back in Ohio". I decided to use that as my license plate when I moved back to Cleveland after living in Maine for 13years. I use it online since it is something I can remember. Pretty boring, huh?

mine isn't terribley creative, I'm afraid, when I was registering I was sort of tired, so I picked what came to mind, rasputina which is sort of a dedication to the wonderful cello band rasputina, plus I have run one of the oldest ras fan sites, so I thought it was a nice choice. :)

I was a computer tech for 12 years. Started doing art & crafts for creative fulfilment on weekends. After a year, I found I was making more from the art than from the computer job, so I quit the computer job (mostly). My most popular stuff is historical leathercrafts with tooled designs. I got a lot of phone calls & EMails that started with "Are you the leather guy that made that great tooled (Kirtle, Gorget, Bodyce, Vambrace, Sword Frog, etc...) that so-and-so was wearing at the (Ren-Faire, Xena Convention, Fetish party, etc...)? Well I need a...." Using aScreen name like leather-guy seemed natural & saves time. Should be fairly self-evident: I love Science Fiction and Fantasy! I was actually surprised I was able to reg that username on Renderosity...its usually taken by the time I get to a site. When it is, I use one of the RPG name's I've played in the past because they're usually just weird enough to be unique.

I use the same name for almost all the various fandoms/groups/subcultures/etc that I am involved in. The only place I use my given name is at the office. There are people how've known me for ten years that still have no idea of my legal name. I had considered changing it legally, but with the advent of popular internet use, I figured it was safer for me to keep my less PC activities under a different name. (if you search the internet for Lyrra be warned in advance - don't do it at work! - you'll end up some intersting places) This way I can stll get a job in the corporate world :) My whole name (not that it gets used much) Lyrra Madril Del'Hobrice Ecklippa-Blackhart D'mer Everything from Ecklippa to the end has to do with my SCA affiliations. Where did it come from? a number of places - but the first name came in a dream - it seems to be related to the welsh sea god Llyr and the phonetically the italian coinage. Madril from a shortening of madrigal, a form of music, Del (from), and Hobrice as a misspelling of Hubris. I chose to name myself for Hubris - because that is one of my largest problems to overcome. well, I tend to buy most of what I wear at thrift stores - it's cheap and my taste in clothes tends to veer towards lots of bright colours, got a closet full of lime greens, yellows, vibrant reds, but mostly orange. My middle name is Wade and it sorta turned into Wadus(pronounced Way-dus tho usually people think its Wad-us). When I first went online with AOL in 95 I was Wadus1 because someone already had Wadus--how dare you!! :) I have used the same handle ever since except for the ocassional Wadus1.

Mason: Wow, you pick your names from the phone book, too? That's how I got the name I use on my tax forms. My nickname was chosen by one of my roommates. He can't read or type, so he experiences the Internet vicariously through me by having first choice of nicknames and passwords (I have veto power, however, in case he chooses something inappropriate). I'm not actually that little as European moor dragons go: 5'7" at the withers, about 25 feet from muzzle to tip-of-tail. I am smaller than the big boys, like Fafnir and Smaug, but I've never considered myself dainty. I find the nickname rather ironic, actually, considering that the one who gave it to me is only six inches high.

Long ago, in the earlier days of pen & paper RPG's, came a game called Shadowrun. For those who don't know it, the setting is a dark future, where Magic has returned to Earth in force, and walks side-by-side with high technology in a Mega-corporation run society. Information was power, and those who had it, or coud get it, held control. My character was an Elven Decker...a specialist in infiltrating corporate datanets and aquiring information. Since the nature of The Matrix (coined LONG before the movie) allowed you to appear however you liked while jacked in, I chose the persona of a cybernetic metal tiger, and the name to go along with it. If you needed a Datasteal of high risk and big credits, you wanted the ChromeTiger... So of course, once I started my heavy online addiction, the name had to come with me. :-) There is at least one other ChromeTiger I know of on the 'net...but I'm the original, and I have the name registered to prove it. I am a serious lamer!!! As some of these origins are riviting. Gazgkull Mag Urka Thraka is a famous Warhammer 40k character. When EQ opened I started a troll warrior named Gazukull (cuz I forgot how to spell Gazgkull) and I really had no intention of playing him full time. Well 60 levels later Gazzy Too Fatty as I became known with the other guild members poor Gazukull lays in dorment on Prexus server. I, in fact replaced my horrid EQ addiction with 3D rendering. Chuckles at the other SCAdians out there whose name has meaning as well so I'll add my own reasons. Jinx: My general all around title for everyone who doesn't call me Regi. Mainly because I'm a royal jinx around anything green and growing (I can touch a phylidindrin and kill it) and because I broke down 5 rides in a row at my first trip to the magic kingdom of Disney World ;) Got stuck in the middle of Space Mountain for over an hour..... anyway, long story short, I've been dubbed Jinx by all my friends not in the SCA. In the SCA though I gained the name Littlefox in honor of the man I apprenticed to, Barron William Blackfox of Ansteoria. As I was always sitting at his feet and he had me tagging along behind him to meet his friends and was introduced as his little fox in training, the nickname stuck and became my sirname, Littlefox. And then I received my AOA (Award of Arms) and became Lady Littlefox. Pretty simple no? The funny part was that he always drew me as a tiger or a panther in a Kimono, but I will always be his kit. Obviously, this thread has taken off...and why not, it's a lot of fun to find out a little more about the folks who share your interests...so, in the spirit of things, why not a little challenge to go with it? Here's the idea: Once you've posted the origin of your name, you pick someone who has posted before you, and create a neat image representing them! Here's the rules: 1. Only one choice per person. 2. Once a person has been targete...er, selected, they're off the available list. 3. You may IM your subject (within reason) to ask any questions you may need to get further background on the person. 4. You can use whatever software you're comfortable with, postwork is certainly allowed. 5. All images must be created in good spirits...no slanderous or insulting depictions allowed. 6. All images have to meet the TOS for Renderosity. 7. Images are posted in the most appropriate Gallery, with the title format being "Forum Challenge: *subject name*" (i.e. "Forum Challenge: ChromeTiger") If any of the vendors out there like the idea, and would like to provide nifty prizes, we could even get a panel of judges and make it a little contest...whaddya think, sound like fun? Well, I'm a fan of Thorne and his faeries so I decided to use a faerie-type name. Redleaf is just a variation on my real last name which is Redfern. That's all there is to it.

Like nerd my nick is job descriptive. In my younger days (early 70's thru mid 80's) I used to be a 'cooler' working for RTM Security (& no you don't want to know what it stands for :-)on the concert security circuit. Eventually I went from being a cooler to being the cooler & that's what everyone called me. When I got to the net in the late 80's it was a natural choice & I've been cooler on IRC, ICQ, usenet & most every web forum that's let me in.

One day we were playing with my little niece, she was 3 at those time (7 now). And we were playing the fools as you do when you act like a kid - I'm kiddy in some way. I said 'Yarp' and my niece found it so funny we played with the word a long time. It then became our code name. Yarp was forbidden for others and even for me. One day I said : - Yarp ! - No you can't say Yarp, she replied - Really ? I can't say Yarp ? - Yes, you can say That's the kind of conversation I like. Really surrealistic or kiddy. So I like the word Yarp and as my name is very common in France, I took Yarp as my web nickname.
