Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 10 10:34 am)
Not too sure if I understand. But... Import your hair into poser, then export from poser as an obj, then import into uvmapper, then make map/new obj/then save the tex map. You should be able to draw on the tex map in your fav 2d software, then import the obj back into poser and apply texture. BTW the hair looks great

Hi there, have you tried asking in the MAX forum? I don't know the answer either since I don't know MAX... I try to make hair with repeated primitive objects that are pre-mapped before I start building with them.

Dragonlady, can you show example pics of your problem? It might just be a matter of explaining what is what, once you get it into Poser... hopefully :)

To AprilYSH: yes I asked in MAX-Forum, but the most people there are not working with poser this much, so they dont know about the problems with poser and UV. My opinion is, that MAX and Poser are using diffrent UVs. But trust me - I dont give up with this problem - even if it kills me, I want to know (and learn) - smile - smile - smile -
There is a section in the Loft roll out, under Surfaces if I remember correctly, that lets you pre-UVmap the loft, as AprilYSH mentions. Max's UV mapping is pefectly compatable with Poser and UV Mapper, other than by default it uses the entire map, which occassionally UV Mapper thinks is out of bounds.
hey moenchen, you're lucky you've got a pretty good source here, Jim Burton himself specialises in Max for Poser stuff! DragonLady, if uvmapper is your problem, send me a simple obj you make in zbrush ... i'll TRY to uvmapper it for you and show you the steps i take. :)

yes, this is what i would try to show you... for me it is trial and error in uvmapper as to which mapping is best (given that you don't have uvmapper pro, which would solve this folded over stuff!!!) -- ok, ASSUME we're only working with uvmapper free... i would try out all of the mapping methods, like cylindrical... and also play around with the offset values so you don't get overlapping maps. get the best one possible, then move vertices around to get it as easy to paint as possible. that's as much as i can explain without a specific model to demonstrate it on. i'll load a sphere or something and show ya... but i'm at work now and don't have access to my toys. meanwhile, check out steve's site cos i'm sure he has tutes for this!

I try to make hair with MAX - about the modeling it works fine - BUT: I have trouble to put a UV on it. Like you see on the picture, I make splines + Loft them (hope you understand) so how can I give them a planar UV? I used the double-sided UV it looks better, but still not good - so what should I use? Next question: if I import the hair to UV-Mapper what I should use here? (picture in only a few colors to save speed) Who can hepl me - I am trying to find out since weeks... It drives me nuts... I need help... THANKS for any little help I can get!
