DragonWalk ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 5:21 PM

AAAAAHHHHHH!!! That's horrible!...now they are selling CRACK too!!!

phoenixamon ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 5:21 PM

Shocking. ;) The harder they try to protect it, the more inspired folk will be to steal it. Bit silly, isn't it, to inform this whole community where they can download their free copy? I mean, a lot of people don't know. I don't mean to be rude, but maybe you should delete this. Phoenix

beav1 ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 5:22 PM

And this is what everyone meant when they were saying that the registration procedures were just a piain for the customers because they were pointless. This makes that point rather quickly, huh? Beav

DragonWalk ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 5:23 PM

I get it now....oops...not the drug...not the drug...:(

DragonWalk ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 5:25 PM

All kidding aside....phoenixamon is right on....you should really have just sent this off to Curiouslabs rather than post it here....

beav1 ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 5:28 PM

Phoenix...no offense..but anyone smart enought to be on here knows. People always act like we're informing the masses by discussing this, but only the 1 outta 100 totally clueless ppl don't know already. It just comes down to whether you'll pay for it or not. And it makes a good point, that all bruhaha over security measures didn't matter a bit. Beav

phoenixamon ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 5:36 PM

Actually we get a lot of people coming in here and asking where they can get find a cracked copy of this or that. Don't underestimate human stupidity. ;) Yeah, it makes a good point, but just telling us that he was able to find a crack easily already would have made that point without the screen shot. Or heck, he could just have snipped off the program name. Some don't know. Some of them are members of my family and use computers and the net regularly. :) Phoenix

VAIRESH ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 5:40 PM

This is not the full program, it is the registration crack. I find it so very sad that CL has put so much work into P5 only to have this happen in less than a week. This is not just a CL problem, P2P is a problem all us poser merchants are hurt with. I am sure P2P is no stranger to the majority of people in this community.

VAIRESH ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 5:48 PM

As a side note if the Rosity Admins wish to delete this message that is fine..this will not make the P2P problem go away. It hurts me, it hurts every merchant and ignoring it will not make it go away.

beav1 ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 5:53 PM

Point taken Phoenix...just telling woulda done it...:) But Legume, I do think that the very fact that they ARE "warez kiddies" means they DO know, they just haven't found it yet. They come in here asking because they're lazy warez kiddies, and because of that stupidity factor...they think it's another group of ppl like them...lol Like I said, it all comes down to will the ppl here pay for it, and we will. What Vairesh was saying was no point kidding ourselves....after the crack, the program will be coming right along. It still rains outside, whether you look out and discuss it or not. Beav

Allen9 ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 5:56 PM

Frankly, I'm amazed it took a whole week. I expected to hear news of this the day after it was released. Though I've never been to Kazaa or any of the other of those sites (I definitely believe in 'legal' ownership and copyrights), I sure hear about them often enough. It does make it pretty plain that the protection scheme does absolutely nothing to stop the warezers, it only harrasses customers. That, however is certainly not "news", everybody knew it already.

Farside ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:04 PM

This is exactly why it was so bad for CL to put in the security features they did. There was no doubt it was going to be cracked inside of a week but boy, did they ever piss off a lot of customers.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:04 PM

It didn't take a whole week. Poser shipped on Friday. The hackers had to wait for delivery, just like everyone else. AirEx: "The Great Equalizer"

beav1 ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:08 PM

Reading my posts I oughtta point out that I don't really disagree with anything you guys have said. I just get tired of our head-in-the-sand attitudes here sometimes. This was what everyone said about the pointlessness of making all your customers jump thru all the security hoops, but no one seemed to get it. Probably shoulda just kept quiet as usual...:) Beav Hey...maybe they can hire the guys who cracked it in two days to fix the bugs in it....:)

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:09 PM

Imagine the power at our disposal if we could lure them away from the Dark Side ....

Hiram ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:10 PM

"after the crack, the program will be coming right along" Tha fact that there's a crack for it means that the full program is already out there; a crack is useless without the application, and if you bought the thing, who needs a crack?

phoenixamon ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:11 PM

Nah, Beav, you didn't say anything wrong. I think these are issues that are very worthy of discussion. I was one of those saying a crack would be out 24 hours after the first shipments arrived. My only suggestion is that we talk in more general terms, rather than showing people exactly which app to use and which string to search for. :) No reason to keep your mouth shut. No reason for Vairesh to be quiet either. We just don't need to be so specific. Phoenix (hoping I didn't insult Vairesh)

Cromwell1 ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:16 PM

beav1...LOL! As far as the crack, well, we already knew that this would happen. It is a shame that software companies (not just CL)have to punish their paying customers with these protection schemes that do not work. Usually the program is cracked and available for d/l within a few hours after release of the software(heck Windows XP was cracked before it was even released). I'm actually surprised it took this long.

phoenixamon ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:17 PM

Hiram, I bought the thing, and to tell you the truth, I'm seriously considering downloading the crack "just in case." In case Curious goes out of business. In case I need more than 3 registration codes and when I call CL they decide they don't like the sound of my voice and don't want to give me a new one. In case I happen to need a new install at the same time their database is under the weather. I bought Poser 1 and every version since, but I may still download this crack and save it in a mason jar with instructions to break glass in times of emergency. Phoenix

ronmolina ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:20 PM

AHHHHH! That crack has full death on it. Try it! Download it and see what happens. Ron

JHoagland ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:29 PM

This thread assumes that the item pictured is actually what its name says it is. Chances are VERY good that this is nothing more than a trojan or virus designed to be downloaded by people looking for a crack. And the person (or people) who uploaded this item then sits back and laughs at everyone who downloads the "crack". If someone has a PC (with a hard drive that can be formatted), try downloading this item and see what it really is. If it is a crack, WOW- that's quick! If it's a trojan or virus, reformat the hard drive. --John

VAIRESH, did you happen to catch the file size?

StellarDream ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:32 PM

Ok, maybe pirates are kiddies. You people act like bunch of 12 y.o kids. How do you know it's a real deal? Did you download it? Tried to crack your Poser? No. Don't even try it. Might as well be a virus or worm. The real crack won't be stand alone. When Poser's cracked, everything that comes with Poser 5 will be floating on the net.

Its a joke Anthony and the persons name by it is not real. I put money on it. But then again it may be crack for the people who want to download it and as John said just reformat your whole drive and wipe everything out. I dare anyone to touch it. Ron

Nosfiratu ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:44 PM

I am touching it - with rubber gloves on.

phoenixamon ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:46 PM

It doesn't even matter if this one is the "real deal" or not. The real deal will be out there fast enough. The crack for Max 5's protection key thingy was out within a week of the release. The keygens for lots of programs are circulated separately from the installation files. How is it acting like 12 year olds to simply discuss the issue? If it's the real deal, Curious will find out and try to squash it, and they'll fail. If it's a virus, they will do the dance of joy, and then the real deal will come along. Phoenix

Jaqui ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:55 PM

not to rain on anyone's parade here, but five will get you ten that the p5 crack is only the registration number. even the crackers need more than three days to get the crack built. even if it is a team of 30 people. and you would have to have exact same hardware as whoever's code it is.

ronmolina ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 7:10 PM

Yep but some folks have a surprise that is not coming from CL but pissed of merchants. Ron

Nosfiratu ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 7:12 PM

I have searched Kazaa extensively. I do see "Orion" on. In fact, I see the exact same screen shown by the original post, except that it says "Pro Pack V4", NOT "Poser 5". Interesting. I have several possible explanations for this: 1) it's real - always the possibility, but I would expect it to remain available and to be spreading. This has not happened. 2) the file contains a virus, porn site link, or something like that. This is my hunch. In that case, then we're all getting worked up over nothing. 3) the image is fake to begin with. I am NOT accusing anyone of this, just pointing out that creating that image from the real Kazaa screen is child's play. In my PERSONAL opinion, posts like this on the forums are detrimental. They only serve to inflame passions and cause yet more needless speculation. If you do spot suspected illegal activity, please email legal@curiouslabs.com. We follow up on ALL reports we receive. This is the fastest, most effective means of informing us. :-) Anthony Hernandez Curious Labs

VAIRESH ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 7:46 PM

In response to #25, Nope I did not get a file size sorry. I was cruzin' P2P looking to see if any of my new marketplace items had showed up yet and typed in curious labs just to see what came up.

DragonWalk ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 7:50 PM

Think about it....this is NOT good for business either...folks come here...get all excited about Poser 5...."OH...I am gonna buy that!!"...then see this post....how much ya wanna bet at least half will now think twice about "buying" it.... ....nevermind that....with all the bug spouting around here these last few days...many folks may even say...well shit...why pay for a buggy program...I am gonna "try" it first....and how many of "those" SURVEYORS will then actually decide to trash their "crack" and REALLY buy it....huh?? Look...these are POSSIBLE scenarios....because they HAPPEN....and NO...NOT EVERYONE knows about these places...you would be surprised how many find out about them right here...on these forums...everytime folks start telling the world in these threads exactly what is out there and where....poser was NOT even near as popular till folks started complaining about how "free" everything is... I know you mean well Vairesh...I am not knocking your intentions...but this is all something to consider also... Incidently...I go to college....most college kids can't afford squat....but guess what...they hang out in forums galore and chat rooms...like these one's...and do I have to tell you the rest...??.....do I....?? Not you or I or anyone can do anything about this except go "bad...bad...naughty...naughty"...tsk...tsk...which will result in nothing but a spit in the face or worse...cause they don't give a shittin' blahooey...they figure they are immune...I know the attitude cause I hear about it all the time...and then we get the high school kids...don't even go there...if many of them don't even "buy" their computers...or other stuff...why on earth would they buy the software....my school alone got ripped off of thousands of dollars of equipment last break...ripped the friggen cables right out of the wall...now we have to all have security cards to get in anywhere...anytime...pretty disgusting huh...pain in the butt!...and who pays again...?? These cards are not only inconvenient....they cost money! To many of these folks that look for this stuff...this is all a game...they actually don't even use it....or do anything with it...it's the THRILL of getting it free that matters!!....like some silly treasure hunt or quest game in nintendo... Art...artwork....creations...another thing...wanna know how many have tried handing in work they get from these kinda places as their own??....it happens!! Hahaha...the intructors are not daft...they know....thank goodness...FAIL!!!! But how many schools are there....everywhere...??? And then let's discuss all the other folks who are not in school at all.... It's not just poser stuff..or 3D art...flash sites are copied constantly and re-used...flash is popular...ever wonder WHY so many flash sites look almost the same...and websites...quicktime...sounds...bla...bla...bla... And hey...look...if for example you tell enough folks how easy it is to steal a car in a certain place or area....wanna know how many folks will be there a stealin'...just for the thrill even??....nevermind all the rubberkneckers as well...watchin' and eatin' popcorn... If you tell a bunch of kids about a new nifty bar that they can't get into....how many do you think will go outta their way to try....anyways...???...and keep tryin'...?? Maybe Curiouslabs might have just as well stuck one of them thar car alarms on each poser pack that screams...RAPE...RAPE or FIRE...FIRE...because they don't do much more than aggravate the folks that actually BUY the cars either...the thugs just laugh...I had my car broke into once...thug left BLOOD all over the friggen car cause he/she cut himself real bad...I figured I had eveidence...fresh BLOOD!! Cop just chuckled when he showed up four hours later....and on top of that he raised hell on me for taking up his time away from stuff he should be doing...this report was useless...blood didn't matter...told me to call my insurance...and left...blech!! Now if you happen to find a NEST of "crackers"....maybe THAT would actually have more merit than a crack...yup...too late... Oh....and by the ways...cracks and dongles....they ATTRACT rather than retract...cause a treasure with a LOCK is always more interesting/enticing than one without one...it's a "challenge"...and usually if it has a key it means there is a surprise inside worthwhile...and something to BRAG about getting free...even if it isn't used... Take care.

ming ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 8:10 PM

If someone wants the program or the crack, there's other places to get them... without virus'.

DragonWalk ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 8:58 PM

Personally I think it be funny as hell if everyone got smart and started makin' "decoys"....worthless crap that "looks good"...or "sounds good"...but isn't at all...THAT could be a deterrant fer sure after a bit...LOL! Imagine a decoy copy of poser 5....tons of bugs...these kinda places get saturated with it...word gets around it's shit...no one would want it free....meanwhile the authentic copies...the good bugless ones...come out legit....LOL!! Or maybe have some "joke" copies....maybe ones' that have nothing but a bunch of old naked hags for meshes or a bunch of sheep....and they get used just for these kinda sites....LOL!! My sense of humor is so weird....sigh....can't take me anywhere....

I will NEVER understand this hypocrasy of keeping Kazaa running just "to prove there's warez" out there! Come on, what is that going to do? Nothing. You won't change p2p, you won't stop thieves or cure world hunger. Even if a merchant finds his stuff there, how would anyone stop it? For each one you see or maybe stop, another hundred show up with the file... We all know it's done. Silly to pretend otherwise. And really, do you all believe that everyone here BOUGHT PhotoShop, and Bryce, and Vue, and Max, and Lightwave, and Painter??? Now, I am not in favor of p2p, so don't even start. I am just trying to be realistic. And I am not going after Vairesh or anybody else, I just hate this "Shhhhh, don't mention the war" attitude here.

VAIRESH ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 9:21 PM

Anthony...what you hint at in #33 part 3 really upsets me. I had nothing to gain by posting that image other than alerting CL to a potential problem I saw on P2P. If I had doctored the image then why didn't I just crop out the user and leave everyone guessing instead of leaving the user name in or better just say it was on kazaa with no pic. I visit P2P regularly looking for my stuff. I know that you can do a search by user on kazaa. As a Poser merchant( one who relies on Poser for income) what did I have to gain from this ??? Not a darn thing ! I have not been able to pull it up again. Does that mean it did not exist ? Was it a virus or porn file ? It was transitory it seems. When it surfaces again(and it will) I will download it, zip it and send it to CL. What you do with it is up to you at that time. Here is a scenerio for you. If this is true then I am guilty for posting the pic and alerting the evil doer. Lets assume a rosity visitor saw my post had the file up and took it down... or shock of shocks renamed it to something else and is even now laughing at us all as it spreads thru the web. Hmmm... could orion be another nick for a rosity member. Or maybe a rosity member knows orion and tipped him/her off to change/take down the file for now. Dont ever assume the that All the people who warez are idiots or warez kiddies. The smart ones rely on extensive networks of people and alert systems to protect themselves.....but then CL already knows this I guess. Have a nice evening Anthony and I wish P5 every success ;-)

a crack is useless without the application, and if you bought the thing, who needs a crack? People who bought a copy, but want to run another copy on another machine while the other renders, since CL didn't bother to include a network renderer (dag nabbit!) and won't let too progs run at the same time over a network. I would fit into that category, but I will NOT use a cracked version. But you're right, the full CD is already out there. As I and others have been saying for years, copy-protection just hurts the honest customer. It's a direct paralell of the ludicrous anti-gun lobby. The question is: Does it solve, or even help eleviate the problem? No. Does it inconvenience and intrude upon the honest consumer ... yes. My install and reg went very smoothly ... under 5 minutes for both, so no biggie. But I still think it is silly and hurts customer relations and therefore sales and future sales. -Tim
