Thread: We need to fix this Face Room!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The Face Room can be quite useful but there are definitely certain quirks that need to be addressed. Someone already mentioned the inability to enlarge the working space. There also needs to be less interaction between the morph points - moving a nose should not totally deform the rest of the face the way it does. And the most annoying is when the whole piece moves in the same direction as the mouse sometimes but opposite in another view or with another tool. I recently raised all these (and more) issues with eFrontier tech support.
As part of a response I (finally) received from them was the following:
"...As for the rest, your suggestions are well-taken- if you'd like to get these directly to the development team, you can send suggestions or feature requests in to wishlist@e-frontier.com
...and certainly emails sent there are more visible than tech support submissions."
While people complain heartily about Poser, there is really an astounding amount of power in the program, it's just that it is not readily accessible to the casual user. Each and every "Room" could take 9 mos to a year of constant usage to fully understand and there is no resource to access for a deeper understanding. The manuals are 375 pages of totally "bare-boned, just enough to get you started" info, but provide no way to drill down into the more complicated capabilites. And the third -party materials are little better, but I think a book that really plumbed the depths would take a forklift to move around and would cost as much as a Hummer.
Just an additional IMHO observation:
Can't one go into the Setup Room and create any rig they want and then use Grouping and Constraints to weight the mesh appropriately? Unfortunately, I don't have Poser on this computer, so I can't confirm this. I do know that people import these meshes into other programs and then rig them the way they want. They just weld the seams during import to create a single mesh so there is no breakage. Maybe there's a market for a few good rigs??

Thread: Virtual Fashion Demo - same as the Poser version? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Attached Link: Spaghetti straps by transparency & Section Deletes
Have no worries re: exporting & having clothing appear in Poser. The demo comes from a different mindset where you could only share your creations using the online service they provided - a "Virutal Fashion" portfolio or show if you will. The Poser version has been modified and is very easy to use, provided you read the instructions for initially setting it up properly. The main thing that is missing from the Poser version is the ability to use image files to create new fabric patterns, but since there is the Material Room, that is a non-issue.There are a few limited problems centering around how some patterns are cut and using its output on other fingures, but viable workarounds have been discovered and made public so there really is no reason not to take the plunge. It's fun, and pretty amazing what it can do with just a little thought and some taste (not that I lay any claim to the latter).

You might want to add my tutorial to your knowledge base as well. It will save a bit of potential frustration as you begin working with this great program.

Well I guess it depends on what you see in your head, Alice. "One pill makes you smaller..."I saw this in my head and had no trouble creating it once I figured out a thing or two (see the tut at the enclosed link).
If you have questions, go to the Reyes-Infografica website and download the demo to see if it's your "cup of tea!" 6-7/8ths

Thread: Virtual Fashion......BIG problem! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
After reading the VFB FAQ at eF's website to confirm that your system is sufficient, start with your video card drivers making sure they are the most recent version and that you have version 9 of DirectX installed. FWIW, this is not an eF program, they are just marketing it. Program is from Reyes-Infografic. If you still have problems after reading the FAQ on their website, they will be able to help you sort it out.

Thread: EF-CP-G2 Promises, Integrity, Honesty and Accusations | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
On a somewhat related thread, has anyone ever received a response from eF tech support? I contacted them weeks ago about several issues, some of which have surfaced in various forums without resolution since then, so I know I'm not the only one with the issue - e.g., not OpErr. I've never even had an acknowlegement that the email was received.
By contrast, I had, as did many others, problems with Virtual Fashion when it was first released. I contacted Reyes on Saturday night, surprisingly had a response on Sunday, further communications with a knowledgeable and courteous gentleman on Monday and clarified/solved all the questions/problems by Tuesday. They were even amenable to suggestions for future enhancements.
Is eF so overwhelmed that it takes this long to address questions?

Thread: We're watching you, Figure 5. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I've had good luck saving the file after renaming the second figure and then closing it and reopening it. Poser seems to need to reorder its lists or something and the reload appears to do that. This also ameliorates the situation where you cannot select a body part or prop when Poser stops on the one below in the list.

Thread: Importing 3ds/lwo/obj etc | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Maybe you have a different set of these, but I have never had to either "import" them or apply textures. These are unzipped into the proper directories as either figures or props, I forget which offhand, and are simply loaded into the scene using the Poser Library interface. All textures come in with them when loaded. The one downside is that they are scaled down 12000% so any figures you use will be too large unless you scale the buildings up 12000% or scale the figures down 12000%. This latter gets messy trying to get conforming clothing to go along with the scaling, so it is better (IMHO) to scale the buildings up. This does cause some loss of texture resolution, but these were only ever designed to be backgrounds anyway.

There is a tool where you can modify the individual garment sections, so it should be possible to do something like a "ruffle." It would take some planning and could only be in certain planes. The tool is in the Designer Room and looks like a ring with balls on it. When you open it, you can select a section and how much influence your moves have on adjacent points. You can make individual items and then combine them in the Garment Manager prior to exporting, so it should be possible to make the ruffle separately from the garment. If you are planning the ruffle at the bottom of the dress, you can expand the very bottom sections of your design so there is plenty of extra material and then perhaps use alternating strips of vertical constraints in the Poser Cloth Room with draping over invisible primitives.
Or you could make the bottom sections a "ruffle" looking material in the Material room after making a cut in VFB so you have a separate piece. (See my tutorial at the attached link for the general idea).
