Thank you very much for replying to my question. I have downloaded your files and am trying to work it out. I can already offer praise and say that this is a beautifully designed tutorial and the time and effort you took is much appreciated.
Thread: Fantasy Castle Construction Set | Forum: The MarketPlace Wishing Well
Hi. I've given your idea a lot of thought. There is one problem that is impossible, at present, to resolve, and that is the poor quality lighting in Poser. The problem is that Poser can light a fixed castle model fairly well, but the more one divides a building up into sections, the more problems there are with the lighting as Poser then has a nasty habit of adding shadows at section borders where there aren't any. This is not a problem with more sophisticated 3D software, but it is a headache with Poser. I would also add that Poser is very memory greedy and the more castle sections you add the slower the software gets. This is something that can only, possibly, be remedied as computers get more powerful in future years. Personally, I prefer buildings that are authentic in both look and structure. In practice this means that it is important to remember that castles were built to a plan, usually a defensive plan and so every door and window had a reason for being there and it is very difficult to construct lots of alternative sections to provide variety without getting lost in architectural complexity. I guess that I'm trying to say that such a project is beyond both my computer and my modelling ability, but that doesn't mean to say that I won't ever make more castles, but they will be fixed designs.

Thank you all for your helpful replies. Glad I'm not alone with problems with Poser 5. By the way, reversing the normals in UV mapper doesn't cure the problem for me. This dresser will soon be up for grabs in the freebies section with some other cottage furniture items I've made. Maybe I shouldn't get cross with Curious Labs as they must have put a lot of work into Poser 5, but it is a great pity that it seems so unstable and we all know that Poser 4 works so wonderfully well....However, the manuals are still not user friendly.
Thread: I can't get my cuboard door to hinge in the right place | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
No, it's not the CR2. I haven't got as far as creating a CR2. I'm still working with the obj's in Poser. I've written to Curious Labs telling them I'm fed up with their confusing manual and software that just doesn't work!! The manual for Poser 4 was just as bad, but fortunately P4 was easy to learn and use. Poser 5 is just a diabolical mind puzzle like the game 'Myst'. It's a complete waste of money. Strange isn't it that so few people have answered this question of mine. It just goes to show that perhaps many others can't get P5 to make models either.

That's the trouble...the centre point won't move like it used to in Poser 4. Do I have to create bones to make a hinge for the cuboard door? I find the instructions in the Poser 5 manual very vague and unhelpful.

Hey guys. If you want a gabbion then I will make one and post it. You only have to ask. My e mail address is in my readme's - George279@southpole800.freeserve.co.uk I will post up a gabbion as soon as I can and hopefully it will be the right size for you unless you write asking for a specific size. If you would like anything medieval in the way of war features then I could also have a go at that too. e.g. archery shields, or a siege engine...and you get them free from me. Only thing is - please don't ask me to make a tent or clothes (except helmets)!
Thread: What is wrong with Poser 5? | Forum: Poser Technical
I've checked and there isn't a second patch for P5. I've only downloaded service release 1, and that's the one that still won't solve my problem. There's also something wrong with Poser tech support, 'cos if I send them a message it comes straight back to me by e mail! All very wierd.
Thread: What is wrong with Poser 5? | Forum: Poser Technical
Hi Anthony. I've applied the first patch and I still can't make models, so I'm making them in Poser 4. I tried it with the new set up room, got the bones right, everything worked ok until I tried saving it in a new character gallery for my props. No luck, most of the model had dissapeared again. I think there is still a major bug here, but I can't get any response from Poser tech support. Hey, I didn't know there was a second Poser 5 patch, I could only find one on the Poser site! Will have to look again. And also, the camera keyboard shortcuts still aren't reliable after the patch. Can't get control M for main view most of the time. I reccomend you buy Poser 5 Anthony, at least for the ease of use and there's less chance of going blind trying to see the badly designed interface of P4! You can still make models in P4 AND the CR2's transfer well into P5. The only difference is that P5 uses a 'png' file to display the thumbnail, and this replaces the 'rsr' BUT that thumbnail dissapears if you try and transfer CR2 files back to P4. I have a nasty feeling there are going to be a lot of patches for P5.

Thanks all. I'm experimenting at the moment, but it's still happening. Funny thing is that new characters created since I added the program patches have worked okay. But props I was working on before the patches are causing problems. I have a theory backed up by observation, that Poser 5 prior to the updates was corrupting any new CR2's.
Thread: How do I make a door bolt slide? | Forum: Poser Technical
Thank you all. I will have to think about the vertex bit. So often things are very simple but techincal words make it seem difficult. I do want to know about this so I can improve my modelling and someday make more interesting morph targets. I'd already figured it would be useful to globally switch off bending, but global search and finds tend to crash cr2 editor.
Thread: How do I make a door bolt slide? | Forum: Poser Technical
Now I'm stuck! What do you mean by 'only as many lines as ther are vertices'...and what is a vertice?
