I'm going to play Devil's Advocate here, and say that I really don't think that Daz is going to "milk as much free content from our members as possible, so we can get more cash and you get squat." This is for their calendar, right? They're not going to make that much money off it... and please, don't say they will. It's a calendar -- they have good profit margins, but not great. And this is not going to sell millions of copies. The agreement is NOT a good one and I definitely wont enter it... but I'm fairly certain that they put all that crap in there to please their lawyers who are probably scared shitless at the thought of someone, down the road, getting their image into the calendar and then see, years later, a similar scene in a movie, and then suing the movie and Daz for ripping off their imagery. This really reads more like a blanket statement to cover our asses, rather than a straight rip off. Unfortunately, that doesnt ameliorate the severity, or the seriousness, of the infringement of creators rights that is represented by this agreement. I wont enter, and I dont think anyone else here should, either, until they SERIOUSLY consider the cost versus benefit of entering this contest. The cost is all rights to that image. The benefit is fame and notoriety of being included in an internationally distributed calendar. Just the sort of break that might help propel a young artist into the spotlight. You should do what you want, but still I wont enter.

You're right -- that is a bit harsh. I agree that this should not apply to images entered into the contest, but only to winners. Good thing you read it in full...

Thread: How easy is it to clothe Stephanie Petite ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yeah, but does it work? I'm facing the same problem with trying to convert V3 clothes to the Solandra/Carla figure. I just don't feel like paying $40 right now for Clothes Converter and Tailor, just to see if they work.

Thread: Carla/Sondra III and Tailor vs CC... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Glad you like her! Now, if only the sign committee will approve her! The client likes it, but wants it racier, and the sign committee (in Jerome, Arizona) wants to tone it down a lot. Urrrrrgh. Conflicting directions can be sooooooo frustrating! Thanks for the advice. I've read (here in the forum, actually) that I should create a full-body morph for my version of Carla, then inject it into the dress in Tailor. Or did I misread it? Do you use either app, and do you recommend one over the other? Im leaning more toward Tailor because the reviews seem to be more consistent than those on CC, which is almost seems to have a love it / hate it split. ------------ By the way, I've read your posts here before and just now said your handle out loud and realized that it could be pronounced "insane." VERY clever.

Thread: Where does a newbie begin for model creation? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I don't create figures, but I've played around with a lot of 3D apps, including some of the "big boys" like Maya and Lightwave. Poser has an advantage in that it is relatively easy to use (at least once you've got the figure in it) and there is a lot of support for it. Keep that in mind when you consider other apps... and good luck.

Thread: Thinking of buying David - any feedback? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm also thinking of picking up David before year end. He does seem to be well supported in terms of clothing, and there is a new Western gunfighter outfit over at Daz in the Platinum Club... That has a lot of appeal for me.

Great! I mostly post my personal work here, but I do think some of my pro work might be of interest to others, and I know that I would like to see what some of the other pros here are doing, too. One of the things that differentiates most of my pro work is the inclusion of text and logos, something that doesn't generally factor into illustrations and 3D renders. I also think it would be a nice place to get inspiration and keep up with design trends. I know that after looking at someone else's portfolio I'm always pumped up and ready to push myself to do better. Thanks for considering it.

Nope. As the designer, fair use includes presenting it in your portfolio. Also, most of us can easily get permission from the owner, particularly in this context. Then, there's the reality that I am often the copyright holder for lots of the things I do (I create them for my other companies).

Thread: Daz plugin - boring already, my life. | Forum: Bryce
Man, a bunch of you folks seem ready to bitch at the drop of a hat. I won't deny that change can be confusing and fraught with peril, but all this is good. I have been playing with Vue for a few weeks and now I'm going to buy Bryce, download it (and the free plug-in) and see how I like it. I'm looking forward to this synergy.

Thread: Getting rid of comments. | Forum: Community Center
Comments should stay as they are. By the way, I do not believe there is a "right" to post comments here. This is a private, moderated forum that requires membership -- if this were an extension of our "rights" we wouldn't require membership or logging in of any kind. But, to be honest, that is a tangent. What concerns me, frankly, is Tebok's utter disregard for differing view points. Newsflash, bud: some people find nudity offensive. Do I? No. In fact, most intelligent people I know are NOT offended by "artistic" nudity. But that doesn't mean that I don't know a few intelligent people who are prudes. Not many, but I personally know some people with strong religious convictions who are intelligent and still do not approve of nude images. That doesn't make them wrong, that just makes them different... which is what I thought tolerance was all about: accepting people who are different. To be VERY frank, the most intolerant people I personally know are well-educated (multiple degrees) and very liberal (pro-gay, pro-women's rights, pro-civil rights), and yet they are VERY hostile to Christians and people to the right of their politics. The part that bothers me is that they fail to see their own intolerance, or the inherent irony of their blindness.

I haven't used the TIFF with layers option yet. Won't I lose my layer masks and transparency settings if I go TIFF? Oh, and it should be "Generating Full Resolution COMPOSITE," not PREVIEW. Sorry about that.

This site has a VERY nice selection of photos, and you can join for one week and download a LOT of Royalty Free images. I like Corbis, but find their prices are WAY too high on anything that isn't Royalty Free.

Thread: Postwork for Poser!!!!!!!! | Forum: Photoshop
I'm not sure what you mean. Do you want to create a photo and use it as a backdrop in Poser? That's really a question for the Poser Forum. On the other hand, if you wnat to render the colosseum and Poser fig separately, that's very easy to do. After your render your figure, use the same camera settings to render the silhouette view. You can use that view as a mask for the Poser figure (it will allow you to easily cut out all the extra junk around your figure, so he can blend into the background). Hope this helped.
