Be-eh!!! I don't think I've EVER had anything picked for the FWW, so I'm now going off in a hump and am going to sulk for the rest of the year...... Pfffffft! (Winks!)

Thread: UF 4 seems to run really slowly......? | Forum: Fractals
Ahh, Amblober, I found out about the "errors" problem.. It happened to me because I didn't have the public pars downloaded into the new version. Once I'd done that, it was all OK. However, moving the gradient editor slider still does produce a delay because it seems as though this proggie is using up a lot of bites, which is daft, as my machine is more than adequate for Poser 5, for example, and is certainly of a far higher spec than is recommended on the UF site. Of course none of this was discovered when using the trial version, as I just didn't even consider trying to load anything already made in the earlier version. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the explorer facilities etc. and if it's going to take longer, so be it, but I'm sure this shouldn't be the case?

That's really odd, because I couldn't see any preview for the upr files at all! But I do see the ufr files. (Still in UF 3.5). Thanks for the other suggestions too.. All worth a try.

Many thanks Rick, that's really valuable info, and I never knew about this before. I've just been working in UF 3.5 again now, and have started to save all sorts now as Para files, and once they're there, I will delete what I had before - most of it's bunkum anyway!
All this time, huh? Well at least now I know what to do in that department, thanks to both you and Rosemaryr.
Btw. have you thought of investing in a portable hard disk to which to save your stuff?
Haven't started yet at looking at the trial ver 4. But will... Nicky.

WOW! And thanks - I think this'll keep me busy and well out of the area of creation for quite some time! lol! You've been really helpful, and I have bookmarked the various links to refer to as well. Nicky.

Sorry forgot! Poser 5, OS is Win XP. Does this mean I can simply create new folders, then drag and drop the respective subfolders into them, then delete any unwanted existing main folders inside Explorer?

Thread: What are the advantages of PhotoShopCS over PSP8? | Forum: Photoshop
Hi Chuck, Herein lies an interesting question.. Postwork is something I do a huge amount of, but I also like to draw/paint stuff, such as scenes, clothing, even faces - from which I have even made brushes.. Now comes the other problem I am experiencing. If I'm drawing/painting with my art tablet, I find it extreeeeemely difficult to get those lovely tapered ends to fine lines, or not to get the pixelly appearance, without LOTS of modification using things like the push tool. Take hair for instance.. How were these made by people like Antje or Ravenheart? Surely I should be able to achieve similar too? Question is, would it help if I got the more expensive Wacom tablet that's available, which is MUCH more sensitive to your strokes and can be used on its side etc., or.. Is another art program the answer? - Or both?? I hope this gives a better idea of what I am trying to achieve? I've managed a LOT with what I have, but am not satisfied yet! Nicky.

retrocity, I would be using it primarily for artwork and postwork rather than for photography. My husband and I use PSP for photography, and of course, I've gone on from there to use PSP8 for all my other work too. I do suspect, for example, there may be some differences in the ways in which some brushes work inside the two programs though... Would that be the case? Nicky.

Thread: Upload a complete flop - Please could you give me some constructive help? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi Destro, the problems I have with Firefly are simply that for some reason, if I try to render something even slightly larger than my work-space area, it just either produces the top of an object and nothing else, or it produces something like 100 tiny images of a small part of an object! Or it just doesn't even do anything! I've not had any blue screens up yet, but I have felt all along that it's to do with memory just being sapped off. I haven't a clue how to change the virtual memory allocations inside XP, or the swap files etc. I have 1 GIG of RAM and a Pentium 4 with 40 GIG hddve of which just under half is still available. I particularly wanted to use Firefly renders for producing decent tubes without jagged edges, and then use them in postworking scenes etc. Settings have been.. Tick Raytracing and Smooth polygons; Min. shading 0.25 or 0.5; pixel samples 12; bucket size 32; raytrace bounces 4; post filter size 2, post filter type gaussian. Render to new window, usually about half as big again as original work area. Resolution 72 dpi. HOWEVER, I've now been given a simple formula inside the P4 renderer which really does work for me - I get a huge image, but the outline is perfect, and once I've done any postwork I want to do, I can then downsize her. This has really excited me! lol! So far I've only tried it with one figure, but the principle is to use 2000 pixels at 72 dpi, and I had antialias and production on, with first 4 boxes ticked. Meanwhile, it may well be useful to know how to alter the memory allocation inside XP... Thanks for your help. Nicky.

Thanks so much Acadia. OK, Firefly has given up on me, but I have received some other ideas re rendering inside the P4 renderer, and they work wonderfully well - No pixels, No outline just perfect tube material!!! I'll let you know them if you want me to, but rather than complicate things here now, I'll leave out that aspect in this string. You sound to be happy with what you're doing for now, which is excellent news. Re lighting, hmmm... That's a really difficult area for me too! lol! I'm so grateful for all the help. Thanks. Nicky.

Thank you all so much for your input and private IM's too.. I have read and inwardly digested, and agree mostly with the suggestions made. As a result, I have done some more work on the picture and uploaded Take 2. (Maybe this time I should have called it Papillon!) As my Firefly Renderer just won't co-operate with me at the moment, I think this is about the best I can make of this picture, as really what it needed was to be rendered as a whole image. Bummer! Something to do with lack of free memory from what I can gather from other questions on that subject, although there doesn't seem to be a conclusive answer does there? Once again, many thanks. Thread: Another basic, sorry! RENDERING IN A LARGER SIZE...? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ok, thanks Karen, I suppose that was rather obvious lol! What I tend to forget is to check what the actual size of my workspace is and just go off what I'm looking at! Oh dear!!! More DUH! And more to come, I'm sure! lol! Nicky.

DUH!!! Thanks for that, I did what I've done on several occasions whilst I was still getting used to DAZ! I downloaded the wrong "other" kit, thinking that was the right one to go with the expansion kit - in other words, I hadn't realised I didn't already have the V3XU!! I've now gone and bought it! How thoroughly annoying is THAT??? Grrrr!!! Anyway, it clears up the mystery and makes the other kit I bought permanently redundant! lol! (I think!) I've not done anything inside the material room at all, so that's something I still need to explore. I'm very grateful to have the answer so quickly anyway, thanks... Nicky.
