Very cool! I am glad to see that Carrara is being used in game development. I like the building designs -- they sort of remind me of a fusion of SimCity and Star Wars. I really dig the image! Please keep us posted on the game development, and let us know if you need any beta testers :)

I must confess that all this techno-talk is making me drool. The nerd in me has been fully satiated! Thanks DustRider!

Wow! Thanks for the info! I really appreciate that you took time to differentiate the consumer vs. the pro stuff. I didn't know that you could (sometimes) sub a pro-level driver for a consumer-level driver... very fascinating! I had suspected that where processing power really mattered (during rendering), that there really wouldn't be much difference between pro/consumer stuff.
Thanks again... you have saved me from dropping some serious $$$ on something that would not have made much difference to my rendering pipeline. :)
Have a great day!

Thread: Using render nodes.... | Forum: Carrara
Try this: http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,68763,00.asp The article is somewhat generalized, though it should get you started. A quick search on google should yield a plethora of more how-to documents.

Would one need to open the associated ports on antivirus/firewall software (i.e. XP's Windows Firewall) to allow the render nodes on the network to talk to each other? I ran into a proverbial wall while setting up my nodes... however, I used the default port range set by Eovia (5025, 5035, etc) which might have been part of the problem. Someone suggested I use a port range of 26000+.

Thread: Dual processor (not dual core) vs. 2 computers for network rendering....advice? | Forum: Carrara
Thanks LCBoliou and Eric (I love DCG plugins!!!!! And thanks for the benchmarking offer, that is very kind of you :). I really, really appreciate the advice. I wasn't sure if Carrara would take advantage of a multiprocessor environment, so this is good news! Once I wipe the drool off my keyboard, I'll get to some rendering. Thanks again! Todd

I too am waiting, waiting... drooling, drooling... Though I can't recall exactly where I read it, I thought I had read that C5 would be shipping in "early January".

Thanks for the info, gents! I really appreciate it. I'm glad that the O/S distribution can be somewhat heterogenous... I was crossing my fingers that I wouldn't have to cough up a few more Windows XP licenses, especially at this time of year. That's great news! Thanks again! Todd

Alas, your true identity unveilved! Hey, where do you get your cape dry-cleaned? ;) Nice to meet you Chuck, albeit in a virtual sense. :) BTW... did you get a copy of the C4 Tips & Tricks book? Is it a very short read? I'm hoping that it will be a bit more extensive than a "booklet".

Thanks for the info KSNW! I will send an e-mail to the fine folks at Eovia. Have a great day! Todd

Yeah, that is a cool image! Nice work! Do you think some of the designs in Star Wars Ep. 2 may have been inspired by the ones used in "Traveller"?
