Typically, big productions like Avatar or Pirates of the Caribbean's" use tools like Vue in very complex, composite shots along with many other tools.
In the image above, they could well be using Vue for the cloud layer alone... or for individual flying rocks, and have the vegetation handled by something else.
When someone says Vue was used in a movie, it rarely means that Vue was used for 100% of the shot.

Correction, I looked at my purchase order and here are the details :
ASUS P7P55D ATX Intel Motherboard

I should add that I made the deliberate choice to not go for the latest and greatest in order to keep the cost down. This configuration give me the processing power I wanted for 3D and games while not breaking the bank :)

Funny timing... I just built a new computer for a family member out of newegg parts for the holidays.
Asus P5, Quad core, 2x2 Gb of RAM, 2x1 TB SATA Hard drives, Radeon HD5870 - all for just under $900. I recycled a spare case, keyboard, mouse and monitor.
The configuration allow to tack on another 4 Gb of RAM if necessary. I am starting with windows 32bits for now but that will change if he wants to go beyond 4 Gb.

That should be possible.
You can set Spectral Clouds to be influenced by lights in your scene. Between that and playing with the density of the cloud materials, you should be able to have a good control on adding lights inside of clouds to simulate lightning.

Silverblade - I found out on the official videos that spells can be combined.
In your example, throw flame on your grease and you will have flaming area on top of everything else :)

Dragon Age is the direct descendant of Baldur's Gate.
Try it only if you want an epic story, fantastic characters, tough moral choices, (sometimes) difficult fighting and guided storytelling. It is not an open world, but with this level of quality, you hardly notice the lack of freedom.

I started it this weekend and i agree, it is really in the lineage of Baldur's Gate. I love how hard the game is at times, and how witty some of the dialogues are.
If you haven't done so yet, try out the downloadable content (Shale) - that Golem is hysterical :)

(the smaller clouds on top of the large band of clouds are meta clouds in this image).
Unfortunately, I do not have Vue 7 complete... you would have to try adding a light with a gel and see if meta clouds are affected.

All you need is :
- A spectral atmosphere
- a light source (I used a point light)
- enable the light source to influence spectral clouds (little cloud icon under the light settings)
- enable a rainbow light gel
- crank out the power of the light to 500 at least and move it in the sky close to your clouds
Here is a quick example.
I left the influence on the gound emable to give you an idea of how it is done. You would have to limit the influence of the light to the sky only.
