Sadly, I prefer the default scanline renderer in Max to Mental Ray....    That's why I bought Final Render Stage!!

I bought Max 7 right when it came out (after using Max3.1 for years & years) and I only use it for modelling and rarely render in anymore. 

What I was suggesting really was for something "Next Level" for rendering I thought Carrara would certainly kick it up a notch or two and yes I do admit not to Max's level but pretty much surpassing firefly and the P4 renderer bigtime!! 

I have a project on the go and am seriously considering Carara to render in as I love the crisp lighting and level of realism it provides (the hdri too!!) , also the flawless Poser scene imports helps!!!  If  I wanted to render in Max I'd have to go Bodystudio or some other type of plugin that I don't need as it's built in to Carara 5 Pro. 

For it's price (In my humble opinion) Carara is really a bang for your buck!!  Especially seeing that for Max 7 and Final Render Stage I plopped down almost 6 large and C5 Pro was 10% of that!

I'm sorry Gerard, but Carrara's renderer is no where near that of Mental Ray (which is the renderer within Max). I have yet to see a Carrara render approaching anything like the look of Mental Ray.
If you want Max type renders then pick an app with Mental Ray included (Max, Maya or XSI).
The reason why there are so many renders is because they all have their own unique signature.

I think it's a great use of Poser and Poser characters.  I just think the fact that it's for a really crappy video game that was a waste of time and money to even rent from blockbuster is bad!! 

The only negative thing I said about the Poser image was I thought the saphire fox hair was badly done...  c'mon she can't see a darned thing!  Except for her too long bangs!!!   

So, sans breasts etc. it's a pretty darned good piece of Poser artwork.   Even without a temple, sword, wyrmmaster magnet set etc!!!!

What's your budget?   I personally would stay away from Dell's and other name brand systems as they're usually a lot more expensive and suck for support.  You should try www.tigerdirect.ca if you're not adverse to ordering online and they have great prices! 

For 3d work I'd reccomend an AMD Athlon based processor and of course LOTS o ram!!  As much as the mainboard will allow!!  Also go hyper threading even though Poser doesn't take advantage of it, lots of other programs do!!  And you'll be able to have Poser & C4D etc going at the same time and not experience much slowdown or unresponsiveness!!

perhaps see if there's any updates?!??!!??  That's really strange!  Is your hd fat32 or ntfs?  Is DMA mode enabled?  Do you have the right type of ide cables for your burner???   There's a multitude of things it could be!!!  Whenever any clients have asked me to troubleshoot there burners I always just end up slapping in a new one!!!  :b_crying:

Which version of Nero?  The one that came bundled with my dvd burner was about 17 years old (not really) but was 2 or 3 versions behind the current version which I bought.  Also you need to make sure that burn in compatability mode (in options just before you start burning) is ticked.   That alone probably will do the trick regardless of the version you're using.

Yeah, the Pyramid Head prop I made sucked (in one of the pics on the first page of this thread) and I plan on doing it over soon.  And I did use M3 in the pic I did!!  I'll try to get on it this week!

Sweet props!!  Good find!!  Some of those ones would be good if recreating the end fight with the Maria Demon!!!

Also I never understood a whole heck of a lot about Silent Hill (1) especially the midgets or baby ghosts or whatever the heck they were!!!  The first game just didn't do it for me so I only got 3/4's through before giving up...  Now Silent Hill 2, I have completed ALL the endings (many times) and SH3 I've played through 3 or 4 times...  SH4 only once but I suppose I'm due to replay it sometime...  I have way too many games on the go right now!!!  Also that's ok cuz I'm home sick this week so I've been sleeping, Posering, and gaming!!  I really hate being sick but the posering and video games kinda help!!  :biggrin:
