There is justification behind the colors. For the leftmost, I sampled a highlight off the face texture, shifted that to red to get "blood flow" look, then plugged that in to the inner color and lightened it a great deal, and plugged it in to the fastscatter color and darkened it a lot. For the rightmost, I found a good midtone, lightened it a little for the inner color, and darkened it for the fastscatter.
I did a test just putting in a straight ambient, and there is a definite difference. The ambient glows all over, while the SSS has nice shadows where they should be.

Thread: Morph Transfer Tutorial at DAZ Forum | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If the individual dials did not work, then I'd guess either the morph dials aren't there, or the object slicing didn't take. Open the CR2 in a text editor and see if there are a series of deltas in one of those channels. If there are, try doing the UVMapper step again. If the deltas aren't there, then they can probably be copied over in Morph Manager or something.

I refer to it as the "undercut Dodger" tutorial because M3 users begged and pleaded for a way to use morphs on the M3-M2 figure's body, and were told "no" for quite a while. The justification was that there was no point to morphing that figure because it was made to wear M2 clothes and they wouldn't fit right if the figure was morphed. Pointing out things like The Tailor to add matching morphs did no good. Then Dodger released his "Daniel, the Aeon Hero" figure, a Mike 3 reshaped to match Mike 2's body and wear his clothes, but with the ability to use M3's morphs. If you look at the release date at Poser Pros and the tutorial date at DAZ, and assuming they're correct (not adjusted because of edits, updates, etc), Dodger released Daniel on May 14, 2004 and suddenly, on May 19, 2004, DAZ finally put out a tutorial showing us how to do what we'd been asking for since M3's release, essentially allowing you to create a Daniel for free and eliminating the need for Dodger's product. I can't say there was any connection there, but you have to admit, given that Dodger and DAZ had recently had a falling out, the timing is awfully suspicious. If BastBlack's idea doesn't work, does turning dials in individual body parts work? Are the morphs themselves broken, or only the control dials in the body?

Oh, the "undercut Dodger" tutorial. What that tutorial is really doing is reslicing the M3-M2 figure so that the grouping is the same, and adding the morph channels to the M3-M2 figure. They also could have made the OBJ file in the same way (with UVMapper), then copied the M3-M2 CR2, pointed it to the new OBJ, and copied the channels over with Morph Manager. The tutorial method is probably quicker. I won't replace UMT as I understand that program, however. UMT changes the morph target to match the figure's grouping. This tutorial changes the figure's grouping to match the morph target, which will break any existing morphs in the figure. Mathman, are the same dials not responding below one, and only responding at extreme values, or are they different dials? This method transfers the morph channels, but if the deltas weren't injected, the dial won't do anything. Try using the M3 INJ pose for one of these morphs and then using the dial, and see if that works. If not, could you post a few screen captures showing the same morph at 0, then 1, then at an extreme value that gets a reaction?
Thread: Added up all my Poser content expenses...Owtch! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I scare myself whenever I look at how much I've spent on Poser. So I don't look. I also sew, and in a book somewhere talking about the "fabric stash problem" many people get, I found the quote "Fabric has served its purpose if it has inspired you." Also many reminders that this is your pallet. A painter could paint with only the three primary colors, black, and white, but it would be difficult and horribly stiffling and the end result probably would not be as good. Likewise, a seamstress could sew with fabric she just has already lying around, but if a new one will make her project better, then why stiffle? I consider Poser to be the same way. A purchase is worthwhile if it's given me an idea, even if I never actually do it. (Remember, ideas sometimes need time to mature. It's sitting back there, simmering. Even if you haven't done it yet, you don't know when it will click and you will.) Likewise, even if I never use it, it's good to have unique items available. What if it's perfect for a project in two years, but is off the market by then? And this concludes today's lesson in Rationalization 101. I hope you took notes; there will be a quiz on Thursday. ^_~
Thread: Cloth room and Conforming clothing??? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'd love to see "partially conforming clothing". I always have a problem with dynamic tops getting stuck in the armpits and dying. Maybe make the tight troublesome bits conforming, and leave flowing sleeves and skirts. That'd be great.

Nope, LD is wrong. (Wow, words I never thought I'd utter. ^_~) The dynamic part can be part of a conforming figure, BUT it must not have a standard bodypart name. For instance, I've done this with the V3 Morphing Fantasy Dress: Select the hip, rename it to something else (I use drape), and clothify it. It works, although in P6 it got a little wonky around the join to the abdomen. (Not badly exploding wonky, just a bit baggy.) So, in my experience, what you're clothying must be all in one group. (I don't think I could clothify the hip and abdomen as one piece unless I regrouped the dress), and you must give it a non-standard-bodypart name.

Oops, I didn't see the "Platform" question this morning. (Mornings no good for Fyre-chan.) I'm on Windows XP (home, if that makes a difference). 2GHz, 704MB ram.

Dalinese' Elements I pack (I think at Poser Pros) has good eyebrows, as does Eowyn's "Bits and Pieces."

I mean where it says, for instance "New Simulation" or "Clothify" on the buttons themselves.

To answer Gareee's question, mildly irked, but not surprised. I'll give CL this much: they've beat their best time. Last time they waited a good three months or so before snubbing the preorder-ers like that. ;)
Thread: Organizing libraries. Looking for suggestions from those with large libraries | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, I guess my first piece of advice would be to think about how you work, what you use most, and most importantly, where would you look for something? For instance, in my organization, I know I don't use the animals very much, so I have them in a separate runtime. I use specific figures more often than others, and I almost always clothe my character, so I put each figure in its own folder along with its clothes. When I'm looking for hair, I don't like looking in several folders and if I'm in a hurry I won't want to convert between figures, so I give all hair, including conforming, an .hr2 extension and put it in the hair folder under a subfolder named for the base figure it's for. On the other hand, someone who always does pinups and/or regulary has time to convert items might want all the base figures in one folder, all the dresses in another, all the shoes in a third, etc. Spend a little time thinking about how you would like your folders set up if there were no external influences. If you aren't really sure, maybe start by setting up some folders in your main library only, and just moving the library files around as it makes sense and trying it out. (If you aren't moving textures or geometries, it's not too difficult.) If you're not sure where to put something [a problem I have a lot], don't try to figure out where the "ideal" location is. Just ask yourself "Where's the first place I'm going to look for it." For example, if you have a dress that's kinda fantasy-ish, but your first thought when you look at it is Sci-Fi, put it in the Sci-Fi folder. It doesn't matter if it'd make sense to someone else; it's what makes sense to you. One thing I can say from my own experience is that if you want your libraries to stay organized, you have to hand-install everything yourself. Never unzip/install directly to your actual runtime; it's a swift way to a mess. Install/unzip somewhere else, then move stuff over to where you want it. It takes longer at first, but it saves time and sanity in the long run.

You're going to laugh at me, but maybe this? (I haven't used it as such, but I actually did buy it a while back to use as a burka.)Thread: Texture Tutorials | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Unless I'm mistaken, when you said you can't always get the clothes to fit, stupidest_login_ever thought that you were not matching morphs on the figure. That's what the Tailor is for.
For the material room, here's a beginning tutorial on how to apply textures to a figure in the material room. http://poserpros.daz3d.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6969
When you apply in the Pose room, you're using MAT files someone else has prepared. That's fine for something quick, but you're losing a lot of power and you're at the whim of the creator. Furthermore, if you want to make textures yourself, you're going to have to know how to apply them, and if you want to distribute you should know how to make MAT files.
Stew has a material room FAQ here http://www.keindesign.de/stefan/poser/firefaq.html which you might look over as well.
If you want to make something in Poser (an image, a new clothing design, a new character for a figure, whatever), you have to know what you're trying to make, just like PSP. If you treat it as "just doll theater" and refuse to learn any of the advance capabilities because they're too hard, it's not really fair to blame the program.
