MadDog: you should browse through some National Geographics or some stock-photo websites and look at the way photographers use this and the kind of effects it can create. learn from the best, right?

Well, of course people here are wary of injuring others' feelings especially if they appear to be just starting out into 3d art; some would rather offer some encouragement than straight-foreward criticism. Also I think many people who post in the galleries are not looking to improve their skill as much as just to get their artwork seen and appreciated. A great place to get C&C is on this forum. I've always found people here to give good and honest criticism and advice. I try to when I feel I can.

Here's a screen capture. first create a light, in its edit window put a dot by Use Gel, click procedural, in the mat lab put a bead in the diffuse column then in the dte use the above settings. hope that helps. you could also try the texture as 2D instead of 3D I think you get fewer "clumps"

you might add another, more scaled down, texture to drive the bump channel along with the one you have. maybe same for your diffuse colors. Then I think it could really pass for bark

great job getting a realistic bounce! it's too bad Bryce doesn't allow for seperate x/y/z acceleration and velocity vectors. it would make that so much easier. (I guess you could do it with paths...)
