Thanks for the reply. It uses Dynamic Population by default.
Resources seem to plummet very quickly when using the infinite terrain even without ecosystems, and even from test render to test render, resources keep falling.
It's difficult to tell if this is a resource leak or just a 2GB address space problem.
Thread: Vue 8.x and Poser 6 | Forum: Vue
I've installed the trial edition of Vue 8 Complete (on my existing 32bit machine) and noticed how it loses resources significantly faster after importing a Poser figure and a large vehicle mesh.
Vue 6 fell to 52% resources while Vue 8 went down to 14% and crashed on another attempt.
If it wasn't for losing all that nice vegetation ecosystem stuff, I'd be looking even harder at Cinema 4D !! :-(

Thanks, I suppose I should have asked if 64bit causes a problem here, but if it's just a case of reading files, that shouldn't matter.
Dare I ask if 8.4 is a stable release? (Yes, I know 'Vue' and 'stable' don't belong in the same sentence, but I have to ask - I've been burned before)

Thanks for the response.
I didn't want to upgrade and then find myself handing over even more money!
So I just need to check if anybody is using Vue 8.x with Poser 6?

I've seen it twice now in 3D, and will try and see it again this weekend in 2D for comparison.
I was enthralled by the whole thing, and it certainly got me thinking about things I could do.
However I do find that seeing such fantastic work only emphasises the huge gulf between what I can do and what the pros produce, and that can be a bit disheartening!

Yup, ordered it too, although Amazon UK are quoting over ten days delivery time.

For the time being, Eon Software's legendary product stability being what it is, I am staying with Vue 6 Pro Studio for the moment.
Would you say this book has any relevance to Vue 6 users?

Retrocity and Nosiferret,
Thank you both; these are very useful suggestions.

These pictures by Martiniere caught my eye:

and particularly this one:

So far, actions and filters don't really seem to capture that look, so I'm speculating that it's only the human element, perhaps over-painting a render, that will take it further.
I'm wondering what I might do to add that human element, but without making an average render look like junk because I can't paint.

So not only did I fork out a bunch of cash to buy my own copy of Photoshop, I had to pay of bunch of taxes too so he could get it for free.... hmmm
Thread: Renaissance CG Movie style shaders | Forum: Vue
I was wondering if the freebie version might be able to create usable materials, but your experience suggests that there is already a version compatibility issue even on the paid for versions.
I'm a bit hesitant about upgrading, Vue's track record on stability being what it is.
I've posted what I've managed so far.

I think the 'Angle of Incidence' node is one of the missing nodes in Pro Studio. Certainly, there are buttons in the tutorial's editor window that I don't have.
Having said that, the cell shading bit adjusting the diffusion, ambience and contrast seems to work ok, although it's not the stark contrast I wanted.

I think I remember something about not having access to certain nodes in the material editor in Pro Studio which preventing it from creating toon style shaders.

Interesting to compare 46% versus 60% on the advanced quality settings slider.
