I have been using Superfly for all my renders ever since it was introduced because of this, if I convert any old materials, I delete the PoserSurface. It makes the material look a lot cleaner and, for me, easier to understand.
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

I have been using GoPhysical almost since launch and it works well allowing the conversion of Firefly materials to Superfly by just clicking. Basically it create a PhysicalSurface and connects the image maps plugged into the existing PoserSurface. This leaves you with a material that works in both Firefly and Superfly. You may want to adjust the Roughness and Metallic settings to make metals look their best in Superfly but this is easy enough as GoPhysical also has a 'Make Metal' button. The script really is a dream to use and can convert materials quite literally is seconds saving many hours if a lot of materials need to be updated.
I have also used GoPhysical to convert some Blender materials (for content that does not have a Poser option as it is purchased from a non Poser marketplace) to work in Poser and Superfly and again it works well. The only issue it seems to have is that glass materials and anything with emissions tend to get missed.

Thread: how to create content | Forum: Poser 13
That's a very broad subject, it highly depends on what type of content you want to do, but I'll try to offer some tips.
-For poses, all you need is Poser and whatever figure you want to make poses for. You'll need an image editor program to work your promos for the store, personally I use Photoshop, but there are many free good ones around these days. One that is widely used is GIMP.
-For textures, be them clothing textures or character skin textures, you'll need an image editor, preferably one that paints on 3d but that's not completely necessary. For painting directly on the 3d files, the one that's used the most is Substance Painter, and you can get that one as a subscription from Adobe OR as a lifetime license from Steam. For free options, you can check Quixel Mixer and Armor Paint, or even Blender - with Blender you'd also be learning a tool to model 3d objects and clothes, and there are cheap plugins to help with specialized things like texturing.
-For modeling, I could go on about many programs, but honestly? I use Blender and it's free. By now I've collected dozens and dozens of paid plugins for it to make things easier and more powerful, but those aren't really necessary. You can find Blender Guru on youtube and check his ever-loved Donut tutorial to figure out how to use the program. And with Blender you can get some plugins that will allow you to do a huge amount of things, like clothes, textures etc.
Ok so to be more specific, here's what I use personally to make my stuff:
-Photoshop for promo editing + some texture things.
-Poses just in Poser itself.
-Characters: I make my morphs in Blender, or the simpler ones straight in Poser. For textures I do some work in Photoshop over skin merchant resources, and/or load stuff in Substance Painter for more detailed or "professional" look (like when I want to make something look more realistic etc)
-Clothes: I use Blender. Addons for it like Garment Tool and Simply Cloth Pro help a lot with this, but most times I model + sculpt the clothes by hand. The Sculpt mode in Blender has tools to help you make believable fabric folds. I UV map them in Blender too, and group them in there as well when it's conforming clothing. And if it's conforming, you gotta learn to rig in Poser.
-Hair: I use Blender and an addon for it called Hair Tool.
-Jewelry etc: I use just straight up Blender.
Now, for all of these, you're gonna have to do a lot of learning. For the parts of the process that are in Poser, there are some tutorials here at Rendo, or Youtube too.
Fantastic advice, I am impressed considering how wide the subject matter is but it was not surprise, I love the impact you have on the forum and the community.

If you are running Windows, Karen's Replicator is still available, I have been told the author is no longer with us, but it still works and is free. It automates the whole backup process and is really just a question of setting it up and letting it run in the background. The neat part is the program only makes incremental backups but the whole folder or drive structure is maintained. This allows the backups to be quick but if a restore is ever required it is just a question of starting the process and letting it run. The program has all sorts of options like the back up days, frequency whether deletions are propagated or not and many other options. A quick search of the Internet for Karen's Replicator should find the correct version for the version of Windows you are running. I have used the program for years and have also used it for recovery more than once and it worked like a dream.JustBeCause posted at 7:20 AM Sat, 4 November 2023 - #4477298
Matter of fact I backup everything I got 2 times or more, often I buy a new HD to make full backups every year especially for the 3D stuff. I never of thought loosing the work drive, this one can't be backed up as every day there are big changes and hooked up with all the temp, setup functions of 3D programs. A real add remove drive until as long as a project is not finished, then when done it gets moved to a drive and backed up. Something like this never happen in the past 20 years!Would getting a large drive and doing incremental backups help any? If you did an incremental backup once a week, you couldn't lose more than a week's worth of work, horrific as even that thought is. (Not that I've taken my own advice, but as drives are coming down in cost and increasing in capacity, it would be a good idea to start taking my own advice.) If you have a lot of files moving in and out every day, the average incremental backup would stay roughly the same size as the now removed files would not be included.Yes that Fog box can really be useful, I started making a sort of puppet master out of it. A morphing Atmosphere box, adding interactive master dials that will be also changing the animated enabled material node settings, this will ease up the effect you wish having for your renders. Now just waiting to see if Poser will get a fix for the render speed issues on the next update .....
Am I being Commodore Obvious here, or did I actually say something useful for a change?
I'll have to look into using fog occasionally again.

The fact is, with the game ready driver the crash is foreseeable, I don't even need to try. With the Studio Driver I have a lot more time to get something up and running before Poser says goodbye. I've played the game way too many times. With 1000 watts, it's anything but a power undersupply for me. I believe that Poser has a real problem with complex operations, be it the amount of data or the integrity of the calculations. In addition, the connection to the operating system does not seem to work, like an estranged married couple who only live in the same house. When I try more complex processes with Poser, it's only a matter of time before Poser packs up and leaves the scene. This doesn't happen in Blender, at least not for me. It doesn't matter if you know that and are prepared.
I am nothing short of amazed at what I can produce with Poser on a mini PC, while it is fairly high specification for a mini PC is it pretty basic when compared with desktops and the massive systems that some people posting here use.
As to Poser leaving the scene, well I have been playing with Poser for 23 years now and it's demise has been predicted constantly during those 23 years but I guess if we keep saying it, it has to be right one year.

Teaser of the Poser Godzilla that I just finished up, after a data drive crash that made me loose a whole lot of Models that I was working on the past few month.
Sorry to hear about the data loss. It's why, after a similar experience, I collected up all my installer files for everything I could recover, in case I had to deal with another crash someday.
The Fog Box is looking beautiful there. I haven't played much with fog since I got Nerd3D's Fog Tool years ago, and an experience with Atmosphere when I created a Godzilla image of my own more than a decade ago. (It's in my gallery as "Illuminatus". Not nearly as good as yours, but I liked the effect of the search lights at the time.)

I don't think you will regret it. They are certainly nice units and appear well made, a bit pricey but not so bad if compared with the price of four individual SSD enclosures. I have been using them on a daily basis since July so I cannot comment on their longevity but they look the part they keep the desktop looking tidy. My two are placed either side of the mini PC unit and the blue power and status lights gives a nice tech looking touch. Considering the space the docking stations and mini PC take up they pack one hell of a punch. As to the use, so far it has bee faultless I am really happy with my purchase. Thanks, I might try a couple of those.

Sorry I should have used the correct term, they are hard drive docking stations. The ones I am using are Sabrent 4 bay docking stations which can house up to 4 SSDs each and can provide cooling if required. I started using them some months ago when I moved over to using a mini PC and wanted even more desk space. Before that I was using a large number of SSDs all in individual external housings. Each docking station can support up to 64Tb but in my case one station is equipped with a batch of Samsung 2TB 870 QVOs giving 8Tb. The other station and a mixture of SSD drives I purchased in 2018 during an earlier upgrade and are Crucial MX500s of a 500g or 1TB capacity. I may be tempting fate but so far none of the MX500s have failed despite being used on an almost daily basis. What are USB stacks?
I have a bunch of external drives, but Windows tends to lose some of them, which is really annoying.
The three SSDs in the mini PC has all programs running on the 'C' drive, all my financial records on Drive 'A' and all my supporting Poser files on Drive 'M' which includes all my runtimes, working scenes, support files and my content database. Files in the docking station store all my photographs, multimedia data that includes my music and E book collections and household documentation. I only have three spinners left, if you ignore my NAS systems, which are 4Tb units and share a 2 bay docking station as required.

As a guide this render was rendered completely on the mini PC and took around 30 minutes, I would expect it to less than ten on my larger machine.

My systems are listed below if it is any help and I am more than happy with both.
My systems are supported by two USB stacks that each hold 4 SSD and the stacks are hot pluggable. Both systems also have 2 SSDs on the mainboard. I use them for almost all my storage, for example one has all my old CD music stored on there as you only tend to write once and read often which it is an ideal use of an SSD. I total my installation as 14 SSDs varying in age from six months to four years and I have a few 250G and 500G SSDs I do not use day to day but I hold onto them as they still work. One disadvantage SSDs still suffer from is that they can fail without warning while the old spinners often get noise when they get near the end. Best way to avoid disaster is a good backup strategy, but then you need that no matter whet drives you are using.

The only thing in that list that I use is my Xbox but then I am not the average Windows user I guess, the only social media I am involved in is here and one other 3D art site. I use LibreOffice as my Office 365 equivalent and, while I have not completely removed, Onedrive is configured in a way it leaves me alone. My cloud storage is taken care of by Acronis Cyber Home protect.
Having said all that I think this is just the way the world is going with half the world population happily giving their data away for free the big boys are used to knowing loads about everyone and making decisions for us. Does it worry me, well I think I could get bothered about it but I am of an age where I am writing the last few chapters of my life story so any impact will be minimal. My age also means I will have stopped driving before I am forced to use an EV for my mode of transport. I am retired on a couple of pensions so I cannot be sacked or made redundant and, while this does not make me bullet proof, it does result in me having a relaxed view on most things.
