Thread: Meshes and booleans | Forum: Vue
MikeJ, I tried a boolean subtraction from a Vue 4.03 dead tree with no luck. I hope you've let E-on know about this over-sight.

Thread: tutorial : alpha planes with VUE only | Forum: Vue
Audity, I believe you have the alpha mask and depth map use reversed. This is how I thought it should done: The alpha mask is black and white only, there will be no variable highlights. The depth map provides variable highlights per variable greyscale values. For an alpha picture mask, you want only a black and white picture, unless you are seeking a transparency effect. Hence, the alpha mask goes to the alpha picture mask. Your idea is sound, and this is just what I was looking for. :) Charles

Thread: disappointed with eon support....anyone else have problems? | Forum: Vue
Funny, I received a reply from them today. It took them a several weeks to reply. I was letting know about a bug. I suspect that they are very busy working Vue 4.05 and Vue 5.0.

Thread: Renderosity Speed Question ? ? ? | Forum: Vue
Yeah. Yesterday on my last trip to the galleries, Renderosity was so slow that I just gave up while waiting for the thumbnails to load. Charles

Thread: Reality Check: Atmosphere Editor | Forum: Vue
bloodsong, I just created a sky in Vue 4.03 a couple of days ago with four layers. This was my second sky I've made in Vue. Anyhow, Vue re-arranged the layers, but only after I closed the Atmosphere Editor and re-opened the Editor.

Thread: Bryce-VS-Vue d'Esprit | Forum: Vue
I think that Vue is lot easier to use, to learn, and to create. Mainly because the World Browser in Vue makes object manipulation so much simplier, and the Material Editor is very straight forward.

Thread: Vue keeps crashing... any ideas? | Forum: Vue
I'm having some crashes too. Here are my critical system components:
Windows XP Pro, 1 Gig RAM, Vue 4.03
I have a little utility I downloaded from the net called "Memstats" (it's freeware - go to Download.com to get it). Memstats will tell you how much RAM is available and being used in real time.
Using Memstats, I've established that Vue 4.03 doesn't properly clear up memory between renders. I can watch memory go to waste after each preview render.
Once my entire 1 gigabyte of physical RAM is used on my computer, Vue will crash and at times corrupt files. I've had material presets and atmosphere presets become corrupted because there wasn't enough RAM.
Also, I discovered yesterday that pushing Vue's polygon count past approximately 3 million made the program unstable and/or unreliable.
The good news is that when I shut-down Vue, the program frees the memory lost to the rendering procedure. Rebooting is not necessary, you can just start Vue up again without undue memory loss.

Thread: Terrain Editor: Editing the Options (seed) | Forum: Vue
I verifyied the bug by rebooting and double-checking the dialog. Of course, it is possible that the bug occurs only on my computer. In this dialog, if one sets the altitude filter to a flattened profile, they will be able to see the changes taking effect after selecting the Cancel button. I'm letting e-on know about the Esc key problem right now. In my previous post, I meant to say this: As a new user, the Terrain Editor was the first crash-proned task I experienced in Vue 4.01. I would try to set the terrain polygon count to 1024x1024, and the Editor would crash repeatedly.

Thread: Look What Vue Did to Me today? | Forum: Vue
Consider that one errant electron can throw of one binary bit which can throw off an entire chain of events... That's why I keep multiple back-ups.
