I think it refers to macro like detail, if you zoom in close on a texture with Vue pro it can break up a bit so I presume this has been fixed in Vue 5. I am only guessing though! Rokol

You're right there war2. Being able to animate a landscape enviroment in Vue5 & zoom down for a macro shot in C4 because they will both utilize the same HDR maps is gonna be something magical. With the physics engine in C4 for that special touch. I was speculating as to whether the crossover via Lightwave format may even allow Vue5 files to take on the physics behaviours in C4. Both apps will now support import/export of lightwave files, could take the whole Vue5 scene over to C4 & really go to town! Rokol.

Yeah, the landscapes look good but how many landscape textures are going to be included with C4. If we have to make procedurals from scratch that's going to be tough! Vue gives plenty of stuff upfront & provides solid building blocks for experimentation. C3 has poor textures for it's trees within the plant generator & that was a new improved feature over C2. Will they help us out with a sophisticated series of texture maps or not? Will probably get both upgrades for Vue & Carrara, just hope my other half don't mind!!

Just after posting the above I found that Carrara 4 is coming out with improved landscape & sky editors. Biggreenfurrything you might want to check out Eovia's site today as well.

Seems I will have to take back what I just said! Carrara 4 announced today as well. New improved terrain & sky editors in C4 so I probably won't need the Vue 5 now. What a day for new software. They have taken a leaf from E-On & split the range in two though, Not too happy about that idea. Rokol

Come on, look at the cars! You can see the difference that GI has made. I went over to Carrara for HDRI, seems I can come back to Vue again now they have industry standard lighting. Very good price too!
My only complaint is why did they even bother to bring Vue Pro out. They should have made us all wait a little longer for Vue 5. Will get the Pro sidegrade which is nice!!

Go to the effects tab on the bulb light and you will find shadow intensity slider and also soft shadows box.

If it keeps crashing on GI it is probably the interpolation factor, turn that off and it will finish the render. May take a long time with the complexity of the picture.

DOF is good for small renders, it gives up on the big stuff though! Hoofcommissaris do you know of any tutorials for postprocess of blur effect? I have known you can use the distance channel etc. Just never quite knew how to apply it, I'm not very aquainted with all the ins & outs of Photoshop. Any help appreciated!! Regards Rokol.

Good work dbigers.I See that you have used VUE as well. I have just started to experiment with landscapes in CARRARA 3 and have found them to be a little disappointing. I have managed to bring a terrain over from VUE with colour and bump maps, under HDRI lighting it looks cool. Have to work in macro way though as the maps get blocky if you scale up too much! Just thought that you may be interested!! Regards Rokol.

Hi Missy, Try HCR-EDIT, haven't got the url but it does pop up high on my search engine listings. This is actually a POV converter and HDRI editor, but I think it is what you may want. It is still in beta stage, I had a quick look at it and plan to use it at some point in the future but have left POV-RAY for CARRARA!! good luck! regards Clive.

If you are using global illumination then you could try turning off the interpolation, I had the same problem and renders crashing out after two days of chugging away, have had no rpoblems since. It will add to render time of course!! Regards rokol.
Thread: Approaching Photorealism - Suggestions on getting even closer? | Forum: Vue
I like your idea with mapping the reflections on in the mixed material, it's as close to real as you are gonna get! Vue pro does offer reflection mapping but it is never going to rival HDRI. Carrara 3 has just been released and has everything that top end apps have for a third of the price, Hdri & caustics to name just a few. I gave up waiting for E-on to develop Vue to a comparable level!! Regards Rokol.
