I, too, found the Vue registration process a nightmare. I ended up in an endless loop. First it told me I needed to register. I did, then it told me someone else had registered that e-mail address, and told me to register again. When I did, it told me that address was already registered. Etc. The same thing happened again, when I tried a different e-mail address. First it told me that I wasn't registered for the right product, then when I tried to register for the right one, it told me someone else was already registered under that e-mail address. I did eventually get a response by posting a message to their message board. (That took some doing, too. I had to try several times.) They fixed something on their end and told me to try again, but I didn't do it. It was just such a headache. I'm going to wait until the update that allows Poser 5 compatibility comes out before I wade into the swamp again. Even buying the program was a headache. I ordered it from their web site, and my credit card company rejected the charge. They said it was submitted with incomplete information, so they thought it was fraudulent. I ended up buying it elsewhere for cheaper, so I'm not complaining. Still...Vue is a terrific program, but the business/customer service end of it is not ready for prime time.

What version of Poser are you using? The morphs didn't work for me because I installed V3 into Poser 4, then tried to use her in Poser 5. Once I copied the !DAZ folder to Poser 5, it worked fine. If you don't understand what I'm saying, make sure you've installed Vickie into the version of Poser you're using her in.

It was easier than I thought it would be. I made the mouse a little rounder and cuter, since that's what the wind-up mice I've seen look like.
What would be the best way to make the key posable (so you could turn it)? Maybe I should just make it a separate prop. That way, it could be positioned at the best angle for any render, even on the side, as many mechanical mice are designed.
Tomorrow, I'll give texture maps another try....

Attached Link: how to fix "holes" in Poser 5 rendering
The link is from Koz's site. Don't know if this is your problem, but I've found it helps, not just with Koz's hair, but with a lot of other things that render in Poser 4 but look splotched or patchy in Poser 5.Thread: More on modeling for Poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thank you, Ernyoka. I didn't realize you had to save the OBJ in UVMapper. Duh!
All of my modeling experience was yesterday, unless you count Play-Doh. However, I like the idea of making it into a wind-up mouse, and will try it. No clue how long it will take me, though. (I do have a model to work from, somewhere around here. I bought it for my cats, but they are terrified of it.)
And I just realized who you are! I know you in my runtime folder as TrekkieGrrrl. You've done some fantastic stuff for Poser. I hope I'm half as good as you, some day.

Thank you all very much for the replies. They have been very useful.
I gave UVMapper another try, and did manage to get reasonable-looking UV maps in planar and cylindrical mode, but they didn't wrap correctly. The colors weren't where they should be, and I have no clue why.
But I have gotten the material zones set. I was very confused, because Anim8or has a materials editor, but none of the files I exported kept the color info. Turns out that was because I was exporting them as OBJs. I guess you have to export in 3DS if you want to keep the color info. The 3DS imported into Poser fine, colors intact.
I will definitely check out that UVMapper tutorial. I doubt I'll ever be a great texturist; I was one of those kids who hating coloring books, and could never stay in the lines. :-) But I want to understand how it works, just as a matter of principle.

Looks like you got the cloth to drape. You're getting there!
It might be tricky to get the cloth to fall exactly the way you want it, along his leg that way. It may slide all the way to the floor, because of his position. If so, try selecting a frame before the cloth slides to the floor. If it doesn't look exactly like you want it, you could always use magnets to pull it into place.

Just a comment on the manuals... I did find the tutorials in the Poser 4 manual very helpful. But I gotta say, the Poser 5 ones are confusing. They seem to be shorter, and aimed at people who already know Poser. I found them difficult, even though I had some Poser 4 experience. I have a feeling someone starting with Poser 5 would have a hard time following some of them.
Thread: P5 Hair room question/observation | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hair in the hair room does take forever to render, which is why I still buy hair. :-) I've found it helps to start with the dynamic hair that comes with Poser. Even though it's meant for Don and Judy, you can generally fit it to Victoria, Mike, etc. with a little tweaking. And it renders faster than any hair I've created myself in the hair room. It seems to be carefully designed to render quickly, as far as density, vertices, etc., go. As for how it looks...what problems are you having with it? You have to have lights that cast shadows for hair room hair to look decent. Adjusting the color can be a bit tricky, too; if you want a color other than the default, you might have to experiment a bit, to get it to look natural.

You probably won't see celebrity textures and characters for sale, due to copyright/trademark concerns. But there are lots of free ones. Star Trek characters, props, and sets seem to be especially popular. Often, when people do celebrity characters, they disguise them slightly. For example, a Scully character was posted to the free section, under the name "Federal Agent." There's a character called "Arrogon" for sale, who bears a certain resemblance to a certain LOTR character. I know there are Poser artists who do Harry Potter art. Your best bet for finding them would probably be Harry Potter web sites. IME, media fans tend to post their stuff to their fan sites, rather than to generic forums like Renderosity. I'm not a HP fan, so I can't point you to specific sites, but I know some fans were using Poser to create illustrations for their favorite HP fanfic.

The frames are a key part of the cloth room. I'm new to Poser and know nothing about animation, so it took me awhile to figure out that part. But I did it, and if I can, anyone can. :-) Basically, you can't drape cloth without creating an animation. Yes, even for a still image. After you run the calculation, go back into the pose room and use the animation slider to run through the animation you've created. (If you're like me, you've probably never touched the animation menu before. But you have to, for cloth.) If you're on frame one, it may look like it didn't work. But move through the other frames, and you should see the cloth start to drop into place. When the cloth is where you want it, stop and render that one. Also, for what you want to do, I would choose "Figure 1" (or whichever figure Mike is) for the collision object, rather than a particular body part.

I highly recommend Nerd3D's tutorial: http://www.nerd3d.com/Tutorial/Cloth/Cloth.htm If your cloth is falling to the floor, you probably forgot to pick a collision object. Don't give up, learning the cloth room isn't that hard, and it's worth it. Dirk, what you want to do is very possible, and should be fairly easy.

Correction. I have RDRAM, not SDRAM. Sorry, I just spent the weekend upgrading my friend's computer, and I guess I had SDRAM on the brain. :-) And I think Lucstef is right, it's not worth it. It's just what came with the system.
