I've been using RDS 5.5 for quite some time and it's really stable (MAC OS). Guess the tables been turned on the stability problem. That being said I just ordered the upgrade to CAR just for fun. If you are a registered user of 5.5 then you should get a credit of $99.00 towards the upgrade, don't know how long that will last but I didn't see any time limits on the offer from last fall (you did register, right?).

I prefer the manual installs (unless really big), teaches you where evrything is. Also less worries about viruses.

If you do much of this type of thing you may want to check out Quicktime Pro for PC. It can work with BMP & many other formats olong with a whole bunch of "nifty" things like sprites, streaming video. Costs $30.00 but has a 30 day money-back guarantee if you don't like it. Think I just talked myself onto it!
Thread: cameras :: ideas for improvements. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Appears that the camera viewpoint is fixed to the perspective of the document window in Poser & Bryce. This can be done in RDS by creating a new camera, placing it in the head and setting the head as a parent of the camera. It will then follow the movement of the head. That wouuld be cool if animation was easier in RDS.

Someone please buy this, I can't wait to see the inside of a shoe or coffee cup before I spend my hard-earned money on them. Wouldn't want to make an uninformed purchase and possibly waste some money!
Thread: Ok has anyone seen a crossbow ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
They left that out, you need to click on the object and click the "edit" radio button (as though you were going to smooth the item). Then leave the smoothing thing alone but on the keyboard hit "command (or control) d" and a pop-up will appear asking you what format to export to: RDS/Infini-d/obj/3ds etc.

The "Poser 3 Extensions" that you refer to dosn't have the obj filters, they are a seperate download. The latest one for your version would be "OBJ Extension for Ray Dream Studio 5.0 Posted 5/19/99". That one has the 5 filters you need: COBJ/COBJ Data / CVMData etc. See if those are newer then your present system. As far as I know there is no difference between Poser 3 & 4 object file formats.

Thread: File Not Found Error on RDS5 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I could open it up OK in RDS 5.5.1, perhaps you have a corrupted file? Try the original from the Poser CD & see if that works. Also, do you have the latest plug-ins from MC downloads?

Are you trying to "open" or "aquire"? If your using a MAC OS then have you converted the file? Havn't worked with that fileso not sure.

Thread: No 3DS import for MacBeta7? Poser 4.02.116? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
New system test, MAC OS 8.6/Poser 4.0.2116- No problem with importing 3DS in this set-up. I imported both the original file & then ran it through Maconveter and both worked OK. It may be a problem with OS9. Was the "Simple Finder" radio button cheked in the Finder preferences by accident? Don't know much about OS9. Another thing to check is the preferences in Stuffit Expander (if that's what you use). In the Cross-Platform option: "Convert text files to Macintosh format" make sure "never" radio button is checked.
