I've got different coloured socks (running a bit late this morning). That's looking great Ede. :-) There's so many pretty Millies floating about now that we're soon going to forget what a ropey start our Millington had.

Zygote are obviously going to offer new stuff for Victoria, and do so in order to make a profit. They are a business, not a charity. 20 dollars seems reasonable for addon stuff if it's high quality, and I'd much prefer it if they offered stuff for sale separately so that I only have to buy the bits that interest me. They can sell it in a CD bundle too if they want, that's fine, and no doubt equally useful for other people. Remember, you only have to buy their stuff if it is of interest to you. It isn't obligatory. Your Poser program will work just fine with the great Zygote models that were included with it, and all the amazing freebies that the Poser community share. :-)

Well, to give 'em the benefit of the doubt, it is a little bit more ambitious in styling than Kozaburo's fine efforts so far. I might consider this. :-)

It looks to all intents and purposes to be a management buyout for Poser. I doubt we could have better news than this. :-)

I received the email, and have downloaded the file. There still appear to be gaps in the map, and there is still no pubic hair. First impressions leave me disappointed with the map update. I will check some more before coming to a final conclusion.

Actually, it's some of the tiny morphs that I'll find the most useful. The eye shapes are especially useful. I only had the fastest of lunchtime fiddles, but a lot of the stuff looked like it will be very useful. This is all extra wammo goodies for me, 'cos I'd have most definitely kept the mesh anyway. It's very good, and I've already been able to change the body shape pretty much to my satisfaction on my first attempt, using morphs from the likes of rtamesis. Allerleirauh, I sympathise with your frustration and disappointment, and share it to some degree. But I think you have to be careful to not end up cutting off your nose to spite the cliche by throwing in the towel with the mesh. It is a very good mesh, and Poser users are making a lot of stuff for it already. I haven't checked out the map update yet, which was my biggest grumble.

LOL, you mean make it even worse than RDS?! I have Photoshop, but use it only when PhotoImpact or PhotoPaint don't cut it. Photoshop's interface makes me spit everytime. I certainly would never buy a 3D tool made with an Adobe interface. If Adobe got Poser, it would be back to the bad old days of versions 1 and 2. (is drowned in the flood of cries of 'I loved the old versions!') :-D

I've no doubt a few small independants will make stuff with Bryce, which may well be bought up cheaply by content hungry minor TV channels. However, that is a long way from being 'most new animations for TV' as proclaimed by Gear above. DAD wrote: +++++++++++++++++++++ Speed is not important to the independant, final product and total production cost is! +++++++++++++++++++++ Speed equals time, and time equals money. If an independant producer is making movies in order to finance food for her/his table, then speed is going to be very important indeed to her/him. Any profit making movie producer will tell you that the biggest cost of all is time/labour. For only about double the cost of Bryce, you can buy a program like Inspire or Animation Master. These are much better featured programs, and render ten times faster. At around ten times the cost of Bryce, are programs already used in mainstream TV CGI studios. Ten times the cost of Bryce may be expensive for consumers, but it's a tiny amount even in independant commercial movie making circles. As much as I love my Bryce, I'm not going to delude myself that it's anywhere near a professional CGI animation tool, except in rare circumstances. I certainly wouldn't make an association of its output to 'trash'. ;-) As for Poser, things are slightly different. I too have seen many advertisments (stills) using the figures. They've almost always been rendered in another program. As a quick route to simple characters in simple poses, Poser makes an ideal and incredibly cheap tool in any CGI pro's studio. The limitations of the render engine make it unsuitable for high quality animation work (although the painterly filters could be very useful). If a plugin to make Poser animations work in a program like 3DStudio Max comes out, use of the program amongst pro animators will probably increase dramatically.

It doesn't look likely that Bryce and Poser are going to the same company. Bryce is going to Corel, while Poser's destination has still to be announced. I doubt Bryce will ever be used for mainstream TV production, unless it is revised at the core so much that isn't really the same program anymore. Bryce is far too slow at rendering, and too restrictive in other areas, to suit TV use. 3D Studio Max, Lightwave or Maya are far more likely candidates for TV CGI work.

I can't see the logic in the idea that Millie's physique being less athletic than Posette's means that the figure is somehow more adaptable because of it. What makes the new figure adaptable are the extra vertices and the way they have been cleverly incorporated. Releasing Millie as an athlete/model type figure, or not, is a matter of marketing, not mesh flexibility. Looking at the responce here, it is clear that those who like the appearance of the figure are vastly outnumbered by those who don't like it. As such, it was a marketing mistake. It's possible that Zygote may have planned a quick free update all along, and they may also have planned to extend the introductory offer period all along. It could also be that they quickly realised they needed to do a bit of damage limitation to increase the uptake of the figure amongst Poser users. I'm coming from the point of view that I want lots of Poser users to buy the figure. I regard Zygote as being a vital part of the Poser scene, and no-one is better suited to providing new base figures for the program than they are.

Some of the anti Victoria sentiment is bizarre, to say the least. Quite why anybody would want to try and form an 'anti Millie alliance' is beyond me. In the event of not finding the item suitable for purchase, the best bet is stick to not buying it and just get on with your life. Accusing Zygote of being ripoff merchants has to be one of most ridiculous notions seen here this year. Whatever anyone feels about the visual appearance of the figure, the mesh is incredible value. It cost me 38 pounds and sixty seven pence, which would buy me pretty much bugger all beyond some utility shopping in the supermarket. Sixty dollars may be beyond some peoples' pocket, but in comparison to most commercial hi-res meshes they are just about giving it away. Incredibly, it's fully set up for animation! I don't think some people realise just how much they'd be getting for their money. I suspect the problem with the texture map is that it was a bit of a rush job. I doubt very much that Zygote deliberately let something out not caring about the quality. Thinking about it, the issue of pubic hair would be better addressed with a similar system to the 'outer' eyebrows. On my images, I used the pubic prop by Ian Grey. This enables changes to this area without having to redo an entire texture map.
