I have a confession to make. When I started with Poser, I liked P4 Nude Male just fine. I got defensive when people called him Dork. "What's so bad about him?" I thought. I was able to morph and texture a pretty respectable looking 3D guy. But that was before I saw what was being done with M2. The texture maps and basic mesh shape was sooooo much better. At first I didn't like M2. I thought he was too bulky, his chin was too wide, his jaw too angled, his traps too tiny, and what's up with that horizontal collar bone? But after I discovered M2's body morphs, P4NM became a "Dork" to me too, because he really was dork compared to M2. M2 is infinitely better. And so I had finally created a respectable M2 guy, when M3 came along. I wasn't too sure about this new model. I didn't like how he was the same mesh as V3. But after experimenting with him, and working on texture maps, I'm like, "Michael who? M3 Rulez!!!!!!" LOL! But I'm just goofy that way. ;p Seriously, once the SR1 for M3 comes out, I think it would be a good idea to get M3 if you need male figures for your renders. He is a leap forward. M2 seems "dated" to me already. I can't believe how much time I wasted on M2's texture maps, M3's UV's are so much better! And I can't believe how good M3 looks! Wow! Have you seen the ProjectZ promo pictures? The Rogue Fantasy Warrior? The Pirate Pack pictures? Wow! Double Wow, Wow!!! M3 is built like a movie star! This version of Mike is much more to Basty's liking. He's default shape needs very few dial spins to get to a "respectable looking guy." And I really like all the face and teeth morphs too. :D bB

The Hi-Res M3 bump map was fixed? Was the UTC M3 plug-in fixed too? If so, when can buyers expect updates for the UTC plug-in, and the Hi-Res M3 bump maps as well as M3 SR1? How will DAZ make these updates available? bB

First, I'm happy to report I was able to get M3 working on my Mac OS 9.2.2. in Poser 4.0.3. Hooray! I had to do bunch of un-installs, redownloads, reinstalls, and increase Poser's memory. Problems with M3 not already mentioned above: 1) The pectorals - I don't know if this covered by the first thing in DAZ's list, but I noticed M3's pectorals get choppy looking instead of having a smooth surface when the body setting is changed from the default shape. 2) The M3's nipples seem a little odd too when changed from the default shape. They are indented into the pecs instead sitting on the surface. When morphs, such as "move up", are applied, bizarre lumps show up in the pecs like in #1 above. The depressed nipples are even more noticeable. When adding body settings to bulk-up M3, the pecs bulge up around the nipple, but the nipple itself stays where it was instead of bulking upwards along with the pecs. I hope that made sense. I can attach a few screen captures later today to better illustrate what I mean. bB, who's happy there's going to be an M3 update :D

I'm not sure, but I believe the oddity between the lips is caused either by the anti-aliasing border, or the original mesh (M2) simply did not have as many polygons in the lip area as M3 does. All my m2 to m3 UTC conversions have that pixelized blob thing between the lips. Some of the toenails also have this problem. I haven't tried turning off anti-aliasing and/or the border yet to see if that gets rid of the problem, but I think it will. Anyone else try this? bB

p.s. If you do run UTC in Virtual PC, I recommend you let run overnight, or while you're doing housechores, or at work, etc, because it's slow going. bB

About UTC, I got it even though I have a Mac. I'm happy to report, UTC works perfectly in Virtual PC with no problems at all. I haven't used UTC to create MATs though. If you want to, you'll need to install Poser inside VPC to do that, and have the PC Poser's runtime exactly match your Mac's Poser runtime in order for the Mats (copied from VPC to MAC) to work properly. So far, I haven't bothered with all that mess. I would rather just have a Mat making program for the MAC, but I don't there is one. :( Anyhoo, I love UTC! I'm translating all my favorite textures with UTC. It's fun to watch the computer do all the work instead me, and the machine is much faster than I would be (even if it's slower to run UTC in VPC). UTC converted texture maps will have distortion in some places, but I figure it's easier to retouch and figure out texture placement by scratch. UTC is also a fun tool to see just how good, or not good, your purchased texture maps are, especially translating M1/M2 to M3. I'm happy most of my purchases were truely seamless, but not all of them. In fact my favorite M2 body texture was not seamless in M3. I had to retouch under the arms and along the torso sides. For any Mac user who spends a lot of time making their own texture maps, I think it would be a good investment to get UTC and run it in Virtual PC. bB

Filename-truncating syndrome? I have 318 folders in the pose library not including the ones for M3 (who I had to completely remove because he was crashing Poser). I starting doing housecleaning this week myself hoping to get M3 to work, but emptying my runtime didn't do the trick. Anyhoo, I was just wondering about Poser's limit's. Thanks for the scoop. bB

Me three! I just got Mill Beard too, and would also love to have it with M3. It really is a great prop. I wish I had discovered it sooner. bB

I can't experiment with M3 myself because he crashes my MAC and some of his polygons are wacky. (I still haven't heard back from DAZ tech yet. sob) :( Anyhoo, I had 2 thoughts for people who don't like the Unimesh, and prefer M2's shape, muscles, and face to M3's: 1) Massive Mike 2) The M3 to M2 figure Since I'm not into body building, and I don't use body builder shapes in Poser, I'm no expert on body building. I wouldn't know realistic from deformed, so I'll trust the opinion of those who know more about body building and muscle shapes than I do. So from those people, I would like to know what they think about Massive Mike, what they love able Massive Mike, and how they would like to improve Massive Mike. Perhaps if there are large number of people wanting a body builder mesh based on body builder's build like M2, why not ask DAZ to make an upgrade for Massive Mike? Perhaps DAZ could do a new UV map of Massive Mike get get the better realism V3 and M3 have. Perhaps Massive Mike can get Injection Morphs too. Maybe even adding polygons to the joints would be possible. Sound like a plan? I also want to point out M3 does come with M2's shape, he's the M3 to M2 figure. One could just spawn a morph of M2 and throw that in the mix when injecting M3's muscle morphs. Thoughts? bB
