Could be worse. Until I save up for the i7 and 12gig I am currently puttering on an old system that holds 512MB max! :)
On the good side when you work with a system with low mem for a long time you certainly learn how to squeeze out every drop of memory you can get!

Check out this link to Crucial. They are memory makers and a very good and reputable company. They have an online system scanner or a place where you can input your system info and it will tell you exactly what kind of memory and how much your system can hold. Worth a look if you can't find the info you are looking for.Thread: e-on watermarks on my render! | Forum: Vue
Thread: So, any nitwit still trying to say Vue can't do amazing work? ;) | Forum: Vue
Looks fine but nothing I would use as a yard stick to show how amazing vue can be. Besides, with 20hrs of postwork, it is kinda hard to say what is and isn't vue.Â

While it is not done with Vue, here is a good cpu chart for Cinema 4D and if you click to go to the next page it does 3dstudio(and other pages have stuff like games etc).  It will give you an idea of speed differences between between cpus.ÂThread: Vue7 closing in... | Forum: Vue
Call me silly, but I don't think the incomplete version should be called the "complete" version. :)Â
It should be Vue 7 Esprit Pro, Vue 7 Studio, Vue 7 Inifinity. 'Complete' in the name is quite misleading since it is not complete. :)

Thread: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit? | Forum: Vue
Yeah, I will have my own security solutions. :) So vista is up to par finally? I haven't followed it recently but I know at launch many had issues which is why I suggested xp. But if it is working nice now then I think I will go that route.
Thread: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit? | Forum: Vue
So would you all recommend vista 64 over xp 64 at this time? I also will be getting a new system soon and can get either OS.  Can you really turn off all the bloat and security settings?

Thank you all very much for your responses. Some good info to think about and research.
Sounding like quad is the way to go. Went to a benchmarking site(toms hardware) and it seems like the quad gets almost 2x the performance of the dual core I was looking at in 3d studio(for the test the scene rendered in 99seconds on the dual and 47 seconds on the quad).   I'll definitely look into the two drives and the mem kits. Will work out a way to start small and have a the ability to upgrade as need and funding comes in.
Thanks again all! It is greatly appreciated!
p.s. So no word on V7i? I see how v6e is now for sale half off.

Thread: Slightly OT : Crysis - games are catching up | Forum: Vue
Yeah it would be a great middle step tool. Use standard Vue interface to import/export, work up your textures, basic placement of items, creation of terrains etc. Then once everything is in, then you activated this kind of "Live Vue" program and work with it like it shows in the video.Â
Edit the mountains like that would be awesome, esp the cave making.  Real time lighting / shadows would be awesome for replacement of items and trees. So in the "Live Vue" you can set all that stuff, set motion paths(ie actually drive the vehicle to set the path if desired), and do other changes. You could even play it back and edit cameras in real time. Then when you are done you go back into non live version of deep quality rendering.
Thinking it is about time technology is ready to make this a reality. But you have to take advantage of the modern video cards to do it.

Thread: How can anyone post poser figure as original work? | Forum: Contest Announcements
It is funny how this superior arguement creeps into so many forms of art. I rember back in my younger days of an argument between still life / posed scene photographers vs. unposed real world photographers. The real world ones would say that anybody can set up a good scene to take a great looking picture picture. It takes talent to get just the right shot when pictures are not planned.
Same thing here. I guess some people just need to put other art down to feel better and to justify their own abilities. (shrugs)
The real funny thing about this situation is that in most movie cgi FX scenes or games, the ones who models and textures the characters/items are NOT the ones who are animating and setting up the scenes. You have modelers who create the models. You texture artists who design all the textures for the models. You have animators that bring these models to life and you have directors who put everything together in how it looks. (yes I left out a whole slew of other people like lighting specialists and motion capture people etc and yes some people do multiple jobs) Basically, when you look in the movie / game biz, poser artists would be the directors or director/animator(if it is an animation). Or in the photography world, it would be the still life photographer. :)
So since this is not just a modeling website, but rather a site that covers all sides of the art, it is not such a bad thing when you look at it like that. :)
