Good! That includes several types of symmetry, so the fractal people can be happy, too. I'm not sure that it is possible to write a meaningful palindromic poem, but writers always have memoirs and mirrors.

Excellent images... a lot of imagination was expressed and curious eyes and minds could wander freely. Especial congratulations to helanker. :)
Viv,
I understand about the computer, believe me, I do. My trusty old G4 is belly up with what is probably a bad hard drive (the error message is vague, but the trouble-shooting CD can't find it). ALL of my Photoshop files, ALL my Bryce files, ALL my Poser files, ALL my digital photographs... inaccessible. I need to do some art, and I can't. :( If I wasn't already living with a migraine, this would give me one.
I hope that some Igor in a lab can bring your computer's brain back to life.

Maybe I can sneak my votes in over the transom...
3 pts: Helanker..... "Hidden in the Dark" first image (golden)
2 pts: SuziQ..... "The Painting"
1 pt: mcw1917..... "Birth of a Dragon"
This was an extremely creative challenge! And everyone pulled layers of imagery together for this one. :)
And Viv, sorry for your computer troubles. My Mac is still dead, but the PC is finally rebuilt. They're always a source of trouble, but without them, how would we communicate? I hope your beastie gets fixed and back home soon.

Thank you. BTW, it doesn't appear to be a mermaid, but a selkie leaving her skin, and I'm surprised that nobody mentioned the basilica. ;)

Oh, wow!
helanker, mcw1917, please send links to the larger images (old eyes aren't what they ought to be, yet I can tell there are lots of interesting bits). :)

Thank you for the kind words. :)
I've been down with a bloody urinary tract infection, so have to recover myself before fixing the computer. Perhaps some of these approaches can spur more entries?
Remember those hidden images posters and puzzles? Some types of play are fun, such as this teddy bear in the clouds:
http://www.planetperplex.com/en/pareidolia.html
And others, such as "magic eye" floating images are just fiendish.
http://www.planetperplex.com/en/magic_eye.html
Anamorphosis, is mostly twisted images (look at some Renaissance paintings through grooves in the frames to see (OMG) a huge skull, or other such trickery. Or place a metallic tube into the middle of a drawing to see the unbent original. I think of it as a gambit, but many masters liked playing with their art.
Anyway, the Planet Perplex site has lots of fun, different things to do when making an image:

Silhouettes hiding other images?
Catasterism was unintentional: viewers pointed out the "giant parrot head" because they saw it from across the room, whereas my POV was inches away.
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1037133
And silhouettes lead to...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rorschach_inkblot_test
(Years ago, this test was given to me. One of my responses was "trireme", and I had to explain to the pysychologist that the Greeks invented a vastly superior warship with 3 banks of oars and lots of pointy bits for ramming enemies. Intelligent, widely reading, artists do very badly on tests like this.)
Maybe one of these ideas is a starting point?

Attached Link: Smotherhood
Well, I'll pull something out of my gallery to start this...."Smotherhood"
Can you see the wary eye in the tree?
and the link goes to the full image.

Ooh! Hidden images! :)
I'll try to enter (although my Mac with all the art programs is still unbootable).
Doing something like this verbally would be a bit tougher... although some folks here might know Alice Through the Looking Glass, where the land as described is a giant chessboard, and you can follow the moves of the game through the story. It is much easier to see patterns in clouds and faces in trees.

Hi, Karen!
Thanks.
Last night I tried to rebait a trap with cheese... and managed to snap my own fingers. The left forefinger of this wizard is going to be identifiable from the odd crook in it. :(
My landlady came over this evening and added peanut butter. We're using everything but catfood, which is what he is eating. I don't want to catch my cat in there. The rat is strange. He isn't scarfing anything off the floor, just cat kibble from her bowl. Skrogg is 16, and doesn't need this sort of indignity.

Viv, why isn't line wrap working? Can you fix this???
I'm taking my headache and going back to bed.

OK, free-for-all... that means anything from silhouettes of nude mud wrestling to Bach fugues played on nose flutes and kazoos?
Sorry, I've been distracted and thoroughly migrained (filthy sick and uncreative). This evening? I left a note for my landlady that her traps were not working.
I was taking migraine medicine in the dark, and dropped the pill. Turned on the light and went back to look for it in the basket.
Heard thumping behind the stove and watched as Your Rat (TM): dashed out, hopped over the trap, scooted through the maze of bottles/bags, careened off my pyjama leg, ignored the empty catfood dishes, hesitated in the livingroom (if the door had been open, I think he would have exited), turned left... and vanished in the dark.
I don't think he went into the computer room, because Skrogg was sleeping there. (this seat is still warm)
I hope he leapt into the pile of boxes. I fear he is hiding in the bedroom.
This would be amusing if I didn't feel like refried-beans-gone-bad.
It may be time to practice the recorder and see if I can find the combination of notes that summons rats from their holes. Or something.
He's got to be hungry, so after panic wears off, he should come into the kitchenagain. Either that, or I keep my toes under the covers.
I hold Open House on Christmas Day. 27 years of friends gathered around a tree, playing games and drinking spiced cider and chattering away. The last thing I need i s an acrobatic rat adding to the festivities. This house is cluttered with art supplies, fabric, uncompleted projects. A nesting rat, probably pregnant, is not welcome. It doesn't snow here in the Bay Area. They can live outside. So, yes, sick, busy, and distracted. I need to finish something for Faeriewylde's giveaway, but I'll try to put something up here, too. sigh Carolly

Congratulations, Jon!
And JenX... I checked your error message, and suspect that my MIT friends are glad to be out of there. Yikes! At least they aren't requiring irrational primes from the 26th dimension, ;^)
