Thanks for the link bagginsbill. With the exception of the UI mods, the Sketch Designer appears to be exactly the same. The examples don't clarify whether or not how the feature handles transparency has been improved. I suppose I'll just have to upgrade and find out. :-)
Thread: Poser 8... First Impressions | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Please forgive me if this has already been discussed, but did the Sketch Designer survive in Poser 8, and if so, have there been any improvements on the P4 version?
I've always liked that feature and would probably love it if it handled transparencies. I realize that a minority of users bother with it but still hold out hope that it will get some long-overdue attention.
Thread: Poser 8 advertised! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I've never bought Poser for the figures that come with it, so I don't mind if she's pretty or a bit of a "horse face." It's probably not a figure I'll use that much anyway. The feature set is the thing, and having said so...
...PLEASE...
...when the time comes for pre-ordering, o powers that be, DO NOT do the obnoxious "we'll only tell you about one new feature at a time" tease thing. Potential customers have every right to know what they're paying for when they pay for it. Trust was broken with the shameful release of Poser 5 and despite the fact that I'm quite happy with Poser 7, I consider it a bit of an insult to the loyal customer base to play that "tease" marketing game regarding new features rather than just telling us up front what they are.
Sorry if that sounds cranky. I don't mean it to, well not much. :-)

Thank you for the explanation. I will ask that the product be removed from my purchase history. I regret any misunderstanding on my part and wish you well.

I'm working on this with the staff. I wish I could delete that post as this is better dealt with "offline" but apparently I waited too long.

zew3d, you've been spamming me for years despite repeated requests that you discontinue. We even discussed it openly in a thread here at Rendo some time ago.
Today I received yet another one of your unwanted advertising e-mails.
What does one really have to do to get off your spam lists? Repeated polite requests don't seem to have any effect.
Thread: Cornucopia models suddenly won't load | Forum: Vue
Mazak and bruno021, thank you very much for your help! As it turns out the problem is not with Vue or Cornucopia, but ye olde user error. I did indeed forget to install the most recent update after re-installing Vue recently. Boy, do I feel dumb!
Your help and reminders are very much appreciated.

Thread: Who is The Girl 4 made for? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
There seems to be a contradictory "law" regarding these sorts of character meshes: If it's cute out of the box, it's unlikely that many good renders will come of it.
I was pretty surprised when the first DAZ adaptation of Girl came out. There was a sudden glut of really bad by-the-numbers sorts of renders, but then, "dressing up Barbie and hitting the render button" is a huge part of this scene ... just not to all of our tastes. It was the same with Koshini ... a very cute character that led to thousands of hideous renders, a tiny minority of good ones.
While it's true that every now and then you see a G4 render that's pretty darned good, that sort of mesh isn't really well-suited to very artistic sorts of art IMO. In general the best you can hope for is a pin-up or otherwise cutesy sort of image that's good enough to make an impression. The irony of course is, as ptrope already stated, that Goosens' original renders with his creation were incredibly charming ... he captured the quintessence of a sort of adorable "girl" we usually associate with images from past iconography, and made her seem current again. Merely having a Poserized facsimile of that original mesh on your HD isn't going to guarantee images of the same allure as Goosens'. As with anything, it takes some work and ideally, a bit of artistic insight and finesse.

"No! I want fantasy armour!!! And impractical sci-fi suits!"
Oh come on. You know you want Barely-There Slutwear for The Most Anticipated Mesh of the Year. ;-)
I dunno conniecat. I started feeling like the great glut of garbage became a problem years ago, and has only gotten worse, since. Perhaps as others have suggested, you've become more discerning with time. Despite the frustration that being a discerning customer can sometimes yield, it's ultimately a good thing for your art and for your budget.
Big applause for the content creators who either provide not-the-usual items, or those who provide the usual, but do it exceptionally well. The ten thousand "I just cranked these ugly textures out for this product that DAZ released three days ago" merchants can go jump in a lake for all I care. Bleh.

Thanks for the responses folks, much appreciated. I just thought maybe since I'd taken a long break myself, I'd lost track of what he was up to. Sorry to see him go. He contributed so much to the community. Yes there were conflicts, but for what it's worth, I'll say this: He and I had an unpleasant online misunderstanding. He sent me his phone number and offered to talk it out. We did. He was very fair and diplomatic, and the misunderstanding quickly became a friendly rapport that enjoyed several more looooong phone calls. I found him to be an upbeat and very bright guy. There are more than one side to every story ... for the most part, I try not to take sides, especially when they aren't really my business. I never had a problem appreciating both Anton and the good folks at DAZ at the same time, as my enjoyment of the 3D hobby has been enhanced by the work of both. Anyway, thanks again for the updates.

What about Apollo Maximus itself? I haven't seen Anton posting at all for a long time. Has he abandoned the figure or will there be future updates? Anyone know?

Thread: Inexplicable Render Time Behavior | Forum: Vue
Thank you Rich and Peggy, I appreciate your responses. Yes, I should definitely write to e-on. I tend to stop here first when things pop up as the Vue community is always helpful and responses come quickly, but it couldn't hurt to inquire at e-on.
I wasn't able to resolve the issue, but was able to save out the figures as .vob files and create the scene from scratch by reloading the figures into the new scene. So far, no crazy render time jumps (whew!)
Thanks again. :-)

This is weird. I hope it never happens to you. If it has, any anecdotes or advice would be appreciated. :-)
Attached image is the WIP ... from when it only took 30 minutes to render.
