Sorry to hear this Richard, it sounds as if your place was no push over, and hence did not have the time to take more things.. Makes me mad why people have to resort to crime, I wonder if they put the same effort into a real job they would do well!!

They really did seem determined to get in. Sorry to hear about it Richard, that really sucks, hopefully your insurance can cover the repairs, but must be a pain sorting it all out.
And sometimes there arent jobs Danny... i'm no expert but i would imagine there is a relationship between crime and unemployment...

Thanks - yes insurance covers the loss and it could be much worse.
All my doors have a secondary deadlock on them which is why they couldn't open the doors even when inside. The police say this was probably a major factor in them not taking larger items.
Cheeky ****** even spoke to my neighbour.

well at least the neighbour can describe him...
Sorry about the shit, the bright side - at least they only got the compact and not the DSLR...
Sounds like a really thick robber to me.

Hmmm in actual fact I have undertaken considerable research in this field.. The unemployment-crime relationship shows no consensus after 30 years of research... Some fellow researchers such as Mcdowell & Webb in 1995 perhaps has particular relevance and state " That often there is an Urge to achieve a certainty which simply does not exist"
Whatever you do it is difficult to bring credibility to the application of economic principles to social issues..

Whatever this cheeky *******'s motivation, I am sorry to hear about the hassle you are going through. As you say though, it could have been MUCH worse.

Richard, I went through the same sort of thing in 1983. Things were much worse. This set me back to almost starting again in having any sort of savings for the future. Likely, since the crooks were not caught and from what was taken that belonged to others and had only been in my home from the night before...the one who brought the stuff to my home and took other goods was behind the burgle.
It took a while to get used to the idea of "home violation". I would come home from work and wonder what I would find. This was traumatic and took time to work away from active thought. I do pray you can leave and come home and feel at ease right away.
At the time, I did not have cameras around and things like that. They took other things and it cost a pretty penny even after insurance covered a small percentage of the losses.
A sorry thing indeed that this should happen to you. A sorry thing that some people use these methods to gain income..what ever that might be.
I wish you well and am very glad the loss was not great. Tom.
Sorry to hear about about the break in! I'm sure its not the loss of property, which is for the most part just a thing that can be replaced but the violation of your privacy and the intrusion into what should be a safe place that hurts!
I'm glad that you have not let it interfere with your work! All the best and hope that you are well!
Thank you for your kind thoughts .

That so sucks Richard!! I had the same problem a few years ago with break ins. Since my house is the only house on a Cul de Sac and no neighbors it was an easy target. I put in dead bolts and locks on my windows but that still didn't deter them from coming in. I decided that these guys would stop at nothing to get in. Days before a major break in, I used a engraving tool and put my social security number on all my equipment including the stereo and TV. Sure enough I came home and all was gone! But the idiot who stole my stuff pawned it at a local shop right up the street!! With in an hour of reporting it to the police, I had my stuff back and the guy went to jail. Since then I have put in an alarm system, and am happy to report no further break ins....knock on wood. Man theirs no worse feeling than to have your stuff ripped off.....everyone becomes suspect. Hope they catch those butt heads that broke in your place.
Aloha,
Dave~
Aw. I'm so sorry, Richard. And while it's true, the material loss could have been greater, it still feels bloody awful to have had your home invaded like that. Just the thought of 'strangers' walking around my home...touching my things...creeps me out. I truly feel for you... :^(
I'm sure they'll be caught soon. They're obviously not the sharpest tools in the shed, talking to your neighbors and struggling with double-locks.....'from the inside'...

My house was burgled yesterday and here I sit waiting for the builders to turn up and make things secure. A lot of damge was done because they could not get the doors open :(
They have tried with a jemmy from the outside and the inside :(
They did finally manage to get in via a window by breaking the frame from the brickwork :(
They stole my Canon compact cam :(
Things could be much much worse :)
