Subject: Changes being made to Deparment Structure

thaaksma ( ) posted Wed, 14 November 2012 at 10:17 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 1:01 PM

The Renderosity MarketPlace Staff would like to take a moment to inform our Community of changes currently being made to the structure of departments within the MarketPlace.

During the day today (Wednesday, November 15th) you may notice ongoing updates and/or changes while our programming team completes this renovation.

It is our continued goal to provide the best Digital Art shopping experience on the web and are confident that these changes will make the process of finding your next product easier than ever before.

If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact us at store@renderosity.com

It would be extremely helpful for poser/DS users if the application and the figures the items are intened for are in the beginning of the department hierarchy.

Example: if you want have a selection of clothing for v4 usable in poser, you have a lot of work to do, going into each sub:sub:subdepartment one by one.  (female, models, casual/formal/unforms/etc. , v4, Poser. That amounts to a lot of UI handling

Add some include/exclude switches for the broad categories like Poser/DS and V4, Genesis

These changes are not good

Khai-J-Bach ( ) posted Sat, 17 November 2012 at 9:39 AM

would have helped if someone had tested the layout properly.

the "sponsored product" namely, shoving the products searched for offscreen, making it look like they are the only result.

I showed this cold to several ppl and they thought each time  the "sponsored product" was the only item on sale in the RO shop.

not good. specially when you realise the screen I showed them on was 1280x1024! the sheer mass of adverts, menus, banners, sponsored items, shoves the actual items the customer wants to see offscreen.

this is a good thing....?

This new structure makes it harder for me to find stuff I can use in DS and for Genesis. If it's harder to find stuff I'm not going to bother searching. Guess I won't be shopping here in future.

I agree its just another thing that pushes away DS customers.

So that's what happened.  I'd wondered why it was suddenly so much harder to find Genesis content.  This is very much not "easier than ever before", much less "the best Digital Art shopping experience on the web"

Tip for the next set of changes, which I hope will be VERY SOON (hint, hint):  Forcing the customer to work their way through a tree of choices narrowing down to a very specific type-of-clothing category before allowing them to specify what figure this clothing is for is Not A Good Thing.  In fact, you might want to abandon the tree structure altogether.

This new market place setup is total rubbish, I liked the old system where I could choose what figure type the item I was looking for whether it was hair or clothing for Vicky 4 or Genesis, and so on and what program it was for ie: Poser or Daz Studio.

In short the new Market Place is beyond terrible it is horrendous.

I was wondering if there was a posting about this. I knew there was something on the main page a few months back that lead to a link where you could leave a comment about it but that’s long gone.

So this is the new way things are going to be? Are you going out of your way to loose customers? If I cant find something I’m looking for or even something close with in a few minutes how can I buy it? Oh wait, you must think we have hours of spare time to dick around here right?

DAZ Productions has for the most part, already lost me as a customer (I pick up the weekly freebie and that’s really about it) because of their incompetent business management on their new site. Trying to find anything there is impossible and account management is just insulting the way its now set up. I guess you guys just don’t give a crap about customers either right? The only saving grace you have right now is that my order history is still available by order date and not by some alphabetical system.

“It is our continued goal to provide the best Digital Art shopping experience on the web and are confident that these changes will make the process of finding your next product easier than ever before.” - Yea right. The people who did these changes either don’t buy anything here or own every program made so it doesn’t matter what the layout is like since they can get anything.

Once upon a time I could go to the main marketplace page and do a quick look to see what was new for the program I used (DAZ/Poser), if I saw something I liked I added it to my wish list or maybe even just bought it. Not anymore. Now half of the things I look at are for programs I don’t have or doubt would work and wouldn’t risk buying anyways.

I used to love coming to Renderosity to just look at all the cool products I could maybe one day get to use in DAZ Studio, even more than the old DAZ Studio site and when they had a clue on how to run a business. If I wanted to find something for Victoria 3 for example (here or at DAZ Studio) I just needed to click on the appropriate search engine menu. Now I have to go through everything for every model, male, female or worse both, ever made. Depending on what I’m looking for that could lead to hundreds of pages. Sadly now both sites are utter crap. Finding things are nearly impossible or take longer than it should due to a combination of lots of search engine issues. Go back to the way it was before this “upgrade”.

Sadly there only seem to be a few replies here, funny enough they all say it’s a bad idea.

Yeah I still hate the new setup

PilotHigh ( ) posted Tue, 01 January 2013 at 7:44 PM

I used to spend hours here going thru the store, clearance and sales items but no more. If I can't filter for Poser I'm not going anywhere other than the first store page.

Sabby ( ) posted Tue, 01 January 2013 at 10:15 PM · edited Tue, 01 January 2013 at 10:17 PM

You can filter for Poser/Daz, it is just slightly confusing, since most people would expect the 'software' tab to be selling software programs, rather than fitering by programs.

To find stuff by Poser/Daz go to:

Dept > Software > Daz Studio

or

Dept > Software > Poser

After you to either of those sections, you can then click clearance, sale, new, etc... and get only items for that software. Hope this helps you guys find what you're looking for. :)

IF you do it that way you can't filter out the figures you use or even male or female

I am getting more and more annoyed that the main store pages do not tell you for which software and for which figure the shown products are. I see no advantages at all in not mentioning this besides fooling the potential buyer. If I don't use a particular piece of software or use a particular figure I am NOT planning to buy things for it. So there is no advantage at all in not mentioning it.

There is also no real usuable filter to eliminate the unwanted products.

I am pretty disappointed that there is no official reaction at all with regards to the complaints about the new store structure. It definitely is NOT the best store experience which you claim

JohnDelaquiox ( ) posted Wed, 16 January 2013 at 9:28 AM · edited Wed, 16 January 2013 at 9:30 AM

Not only that but the new site search is terrible! I spent all of last week looking for a product using key words and what not and was not able to find anything. I had to ask a vendor who used the product in one of her promotional images in order to find it.

The new structure was designed to eliminate repeated product posts in the store but I am still finding many repeated items.

The new store is broken and I will go as far as calling it user hostile.

I use to purchase numerous items on a weekly basis and now I am only getting a few sale items that have been marked down up to 60% off and a few items that I need to do some work. A few vendors that I use to buy from have either closed their shops or moved them over to Daz and yet the person managing the shop still thinks they are doing a good job.

If losing vendors, customers and sales is doing a good job then they really are.

I sent in a site mail and was even told that if I did not like the new store that I should just cancel my account of over six years now that I have spent a great deal of money on, and yes this was said by the person in charge of managing the entire store.

Does that sound like someone who is doing a good job.

I have even felt like writing a letter or petition to bondware informing them of the terrible changes to the store and severe decline in customer support.

Sabby ( ) posted Wed, 16 January 2013 at 11:25 AM

Firstly, I can't fathom you getting that response, because all I've ever encountered was helpful people when contacting staff and admin on Renderosity...

While the store layout is 'different' and I also am not super fond of how it is, it does work, you can still sort by model, the program is at the end, so rather than going Daz > V4, it's now Characters > V4 > Daz (or whatever it is you want to look for), the program or software is at the end of the chain of whatever you're looking for.

Sometimes it just takes getting used to new things, I personally have a hard time adjusting to changes when it comes to things I am already comfortable with.

Also, perhaps this change has been well recieved by the majority of buyers and the people who dislike it are few. If it is liked by most of the customers, then changing it because a couple of people dislike it wouldn't make sense.

So far I have read only complaints and no compliments for the new structure.

Going through the software path is a very poor substitute for what we used to have. Selection by figure is at the end and not up front

And what is wrong in mentioning the figure and software program if you can put stupid categorization in like "Themed" or "Software". Those are totally useless

If you claim to make things better, you should add features, not take them away

JohnDelaquiox ( ) posted Wed, 16 January 2013 at 1:46 PM · edited Wed, 16 January 2013 at 1:56 PM

I too have read nothing but negative comments across the board.

Another thing that I truly hate. One is not able to view all of the clothing available for a firgure at once. You have to sift through the stupid categories.

And Sabby you may no believe me but that is what happend. Yes one can get use to working with a broken or defective system but it is still broken.

In my most honest opinion the latest changes to site were done for changes sake and to me that is a terrible thing to do. This site has lost all concept of if it is not broken don't fix it and keeping things simple. There also use to be a general when it comes to doing business and that was the costumer is always right.

And it is not the first time they do a stupid change to the site. Does anyone remember when they removed the whats new and whats hot from the drown menu. Every body complained and they had to put it back up.

John,

There was alot more to our conversation than that but as it was a private communication between you and I, that is how it needs to stay.

As I told you several times, we gather suggestions, data, statistics, how people are searching, reporting, etc and we come to a decision that we feel benefits the LARGEST majority of our members, customers and vendors which this new department structure is doing. When you have over 700,000 members not all are going to be happy with all changes and unforutantely we can't do exactly what each individual wants or a handful as much as we would like to. Of all negative feedback we received on these changes it was FAR less than 1/2%,  all other feedback and data to back that up was positive. Also based on sales, customers contacting us having problem finding items and other data/reporting it appears the changes had a great positive impact on the Marketplace.

The department restructure has been requested for years and we are very pleased that we finally dove in and tackled this project. We will continue to make tweaks and improvements to it and other areas of the site as always.

Regards

Stacey

Being able to browse the store with a filter does not take anything away from the restructuring of the store. It just brings back a feature which has been sacrificed for no good reason. Adding a keyword for the figure and the intended software is also something which helps customers and does not take anything away from the structure. Categorizing a morph as "software"does not really help anyone....

If (some of) your customers get irritated when visiting the store is surely not a good thing

And how many just silently gave up in confusion or disgust?  There exists a subset of your userbase for whom the redesigned store is effectively unusable.  Before the changes, I was able to easily browse through everything made for my primary figure.  Now, I have to tunnel down through layer upon layer upon layer of sub-sub-sub-categories before I can even determine whether anything in a given sub-sub-sub-category is compatible with that figure.  This is a Bad Design, and since I am unable to find usable content, with the exception of a very few content creators I already know and have bookmarked, I am forced to take my money elsewhere.

There was more to it, I mentioned no names nor anything else nor will I mention anything else from it.

I have been trying to be patient but when ever I go to look for something it's just head ache. Plus I have not seen any changes to the site to tweak it or make it better.

There are ways to fix the new layout. all one would have to do as add a few more filters.

You say there are a lot of happy people, but I have seen no threads saying how great the new setup is. actually I have not seen a single comment saying that.

Sorry for the double post.

I say check your sales figures and compare them to this time last year and the year before that. And then present the current market place to a usability export and see what they say.

  • DEAR FELLOW MEMBERS: HELLO! ....*

It's been this old man's experience of the years here (as well as MANY of his friends/members who have long since ALSO LEFT this ONCE enjoyable site) that renderosity's site 'philosophy' MOST often is more like:

"Don't confuse me/us/rosity with 'member' opinions, OUR/ROSITY's mind is already made up" ....

SAVE your comments and postings .... All it'll do is raise your 'blood pressure'  ....

The ONLY way members can SPEAK is to ''LEAVE'' Renderosity (as MANY I have once known HERE have done over the years) .... TallPockets.

JohnDelaquiox ( ) posted Fri, 01 February 2013 at 7:37 AM

I have had a lot of great friends leave the site over the years

First time they started leaving was when the site started to use censored thumbnails in the gallery

second time the started leaving was to some tos changes

third time time was when the site decided that artist could not credit or link to artist over at deviant art

most recently I have had friends leave when the new store changes took place some of them were vendors

I have had of people leave because of the negligence of the sites administration some of them were top artist whos images sold products. I am not just saying that, these were people whos images and galleries had some of the most views and use to always credit the vendors. And people are stil leaving. The only reason I am still here is the vendors and the other few artist that have remained.

The site is no where near the calibur of other 3D content sites currently online. there are new ones poping up each day and if this site does not start taking its clientel more serious its going to go down.

There is no such thing as too big to fail.
