Subject: Is it just me?

Or has this place become more active, informative, and warm lately? I used to hardly ever visit the Vue d'Esprit Forum even though I totally love the program, no doubt the result of having had a bit more time to use it of late. Not this particular week, as I'm on jury duty! (Boy, want to get an infusion of appreciation for your own life, spend some time in court!!) But, just in the last two weeks even casual visits have netted on more than one occasion just exactly (the answer) I was looking for. I'm speaking here specifically of how to optimally get Mike or Vickie into Vue and the nagging (to me) issue of new objects to Vue listings, mentioned a couple posts below this. I salute you folks, so much I might even DE-lurk a bit more frequently. (Don't be so helpful or you might be sorry -- LOL!) But thanks! To all. Larry F

Larry, Glad you're enjoying it here. I couldn't really say if it's become more warm or friendly, as I myself have only been looking here since August when I first got Vue 3.1. but from what I remember, it's been a nice place all along. :) Feel free to De-Lurk as much as you want! So, you did get Mike and Vickie into Vue OK, right? It took me a few days of trying before I even bothered to notice Vickie's eye "problem". Yeah, really.... my first pics with Vickie were from a distance, and all I saw was white, but I couldn't tell her irises weren't showing up! LOL Oh well, what're ya gonna do? Cheers, Mike

It's MUCH better here since I bought vue and started horning in, I think. (KIDDING) :) actually this has always been an unusually great board, but I think it's become a little more populous lately so there's more people who can answer questions in a hurry. MaryCanary

Mike....u mean u got mike and vickie to work? LOL I can't even get them to show up in my program..;-P~ let alone import them into Vue Mary............HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-) Sacred

Varian ( ) posted Wed, 15 November 2000 at 11:17 PM

Yes, it's because of MaryCanary's horns. }:> De-lurk a lot, Larry. The more, the merrier. And it keeps Mike happy! LOL! I've been hanging around this board about a year...wow, that long already? The pace fluctuates, depending on what people are doing in their Real Lives (like jury duty? agh!) When we're all just loafing around, we post more often. (Dutifully avoids looking anyone in the eye after that.) ;) Sacred...scroll down the board a ways. MaryCanary has posted a bunch of excellent tips for bringing in Victoria/Michael. And then nag her about finishing the tutorial she's writing...grin ::getting outta here before I get thrown out:: :) Varian -- Treasures d'Esprit http://www.varian.net/dreamview/dreamtools/vue/

Varian have been taking notes very carefully.....especially with the tips. Have built up a nice sized folder of them...cos I am printing them out too. In all seriousness....I really am having problems getting all zygote models into poser. I execute the exe and it (by default) wants to install in metacreations/poser4....nothing else. Allow it to do so...amazingly lots of new folders....but all empty. deep sigh I will NEVER work poser out. As a follow up on your post, and following your advice...... Ohhhhh Marrrrrryyyy LOL nag nag nag nag pleassssssssssee finish your tutorial?! Tongue hanging out , panting and drooling (NOT A PRETTY SIGHT EITHER), dribbling in anticipation. Help meeeeee ;-) Can't Sleep...MUST HAVE MARYCANARY's TUTORIAL, CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IT NOW....MUST HAVE..lol How was that? or would you prefer......pleaseeeee, pretty please with sugar on top? huh? and strawberries and cream too? pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee? ;-) Thanks Mary Varian CYM on your site

okay, tutorial is about half done, I promise! In the meantime, here's tips on installing zygote stuff: When you get to the screen where it says it's going to install it, remove the c:programfiles line and type in the full location of your poser folder. All my art apps are on their own drive so mine is F:Poser 4 (including the space before the 4). The empty folders...are they empty in windows explorer or in poser? If they are empty in poser, that's because when you create a subdirectory in one of those folders it shows the NAME of stuff way down in the directories but can't actually see anything. quick rundown of file placement for mike and vic, in case the location trick above doesn't work. blMilMan.obj, blMilWoman.obj, blMilMan.rsr, blMilWoman.rsr--all need to go in the folder poser 4runtimegeometriesZygotePeople --just make that folder in explorer (windows that is) and drag those 4 files into it. THEN, the files that end in .cr2 need to go in a folder under poser 4runtimelibrariescharacter --zygote will name it something or other like "zygote people" but you can name it anything you want. Just to be extra clear, create something like librariescharactermikeNvicky and dump the cr2 files into there. then, the pose files are those pz2 or pp2 ending files, you get some of those too. Those go in poser 4runtimelibrariesposemikeNvicky or whatever else you like. (they don't have to go all in the same folder of course but that'll get you started). If you have Mike's textures, I think the path they want is poser 4runtimetextureszygotecharactersmilman for mike's textures and bumps and poser 4runtimetextureszygotecharactersmilwoman for vicky's. the last thing is, any time you get a "cannot locate" error, make a note of the full path and name it's looking for, and go thru windows explorer to put the thing in that path. Let me know how this works out for ya. MaryCanary

Hey gang, Thanks for all the nice replies. I just ended my jury duty about three hours ago and can get back to my life. Mike: I haven't noticed any difference in the eyes for Vickie or Michael. I use that thing that Crescent wrote in the tutorial I got from Fallen City. MaryCanary, I think you're right. This place HAS warmed up since you got Vue and began to horn in. Yeah, that's it. The place has warmed up. SacredRose, you just gotta try putting Mike in to Vue. Even I could do it -- on the first attempt. ;) Smile. Varian, you da MAN! (Overused American slang meant to indicate that the subject is one baaaadd mothafu --- shut my mouth, shut my mouth). Sorry, "senior moment" there. You do some GREAT stuff and thanks very mcuh for those great atmospheres. MaryCanary, that should be a very useful tutorial. I'm VERY interested in putting Poser figures into Vue and have been fooling around with this no end. I'm getting ready to upload some comic strips done with Poser, Vue, Image Composter, Imagine for Windows, Illusion, Terragen, etc., and am ever so thankful that I discovered Vue. It caused me to completely forsake Bryce (NOT a bash or flame of that fine program) simply because of the more pronounced ease of use with regards to Poser. Hey, I'm really a semi technotype but have a lot on my plate to learn otherwise and only so much space in my 50+ year-old brain. Kudos to any and all tutorial writers/knowledge sharers. It is much appreciated. Larry Fuller

Will let u know mary, asap. Sacred

black-canary ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2000 at 1:06 AM

sacred, you might want to call zygote and have them talk you thru it. alternately they can provide the files to you in a different download format. I've found them very VERY helpful. you can also drop me a line and we can chat sometime this weekend and I'll "talk" you through finding the files and getting them into the right places. MaryCanary 4 years+ help desk tech!

Larry F ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2000 at 1:15 AM

Sacred, Just want to share a recent "zygote" experience with you. And everyone else. I bought Victoria and then Michael. After having Michael for about a month I realized I had never used parts of the Michael clothing pack, which I had also bought. Everytime I tried to "create new figure" of the dress shirt and/or the pants in the clothing pack, I got a requester that said in essence, "Object not found" and then would delete whatever object was in my current project. This was on two different computers and with the help of another rather savvy Poserite. And I had done that uninstall/reinstall thing myself without success. I wrote tech support at Zygote. They gave me a couple of explanations, neither of which worked. I then said maybe my file was corrupted. They didn't think so but said if I sent them my invoice number they would set up a temporary download for me of the same file. They did. I did. And that baby worked. Just perfectly. They were VERY helpful. Maybe if you give them a holler thay can help you. Of course if you've already tried this, maybe MaryCanary's offer might be better. I have had other "installation" issues now and again and still have one with something I bought. Hope you get it work out for you. Larry F

Varian ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2000 at 3:51 AM

Sacred, yes, listen to them! Zygote's EXE files are self-installers, and since yours isn't installing anything, it's probably due to a zilched download. From all accounts, Zygote is very responsive and helpful in such cases. You paid for the items and you should be able to use them -- and Zygote thinks so, too! :) Larry, ROFL! I love your "senior moment"...although I think the word you were looking for is "mu-fu" these days? Another senior here, obviously. grin Been enjoying your posts to the Terragen list, too, btw. :)

Larry F ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2000 at 4:33 AM

Hey Varian, Thanks all around. Just last night I spent an HOUR looking through your site. Quite inspiring. And you're right about "mu-fu". Larry F Funny, saw Isaac Hayes a few years back in a restaurant, actually more of a cafe, having breakfast. Spoke, smiled, very genuine fellow.

Sacred Rose ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2000 at 6:43 AM

Larry, Varian, Mary..thankyou for the advice....have contacted them..replaced files...etc....files are intact :(..friend copied them and installed on their system to test...they worked :(.... Mary ...will contact you this w/e for sure ps. Varian...senior? hmmm not sure about the age bracket u r referring to.but im over 35..lol...soooooo what does 'mu-fu' mean? I must be blonde today..could have sworn I was a red head this morning..but obviously I'm blonde now ;-)~ Sacred

black-canary ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2000 at 9:12 AM

Actually the word is really "MoFo" nowadays (speaking as a spry 32, but more importantly, an urban dweller with a teenage nephew). And Sacred, I'm impressed at your lack of a potty mouth. Anyway the Mo is for Mother and the Fo is a naughty word...THE naughty word. So, what error are you getting? Do you see the blokes in your library but they won't load? Or are they just not in the library? Oh and have you installed the SUPER important poser patch? If you're ok with the phone thing, email your phone number and time zone to chandracrater@yahoo.com; I'm a computer hog today so I'll be checking it a lot and I can put a quick call thru and see if we can't clear it up. That's the easiest way for me anyway. Assuming you live in the same country as me (usa), otherwise it'll likely be too expensive. :) (I know you told me earlier where you live but I forgot!) Mary

Sacred Rose ( ) posted Sat, 18 November 2000 at 3:21 PM

Ok....lol....I know the word now :-) Thanks Mary for clearing it up.... There is no error at all. The folders are there but I see nothing in them when I open them up in poser. I don't live in the US :( But I do have a hear me voice chat room on my site if thats any help. I am GMT+930hrs (Adelaide). If you would like to set up a specific time..that would be awesome. Sacred

Varian ( ) posted Sun, 19 November 2000 at 4:18 AM

Aarrgh! I posted a tremendous response here yesterday detailing each of my experiences of meeting famous musicians, cheering Sacred on, and praising Mary (or her nephew) for updating me on the current version of MoFo -- and Renderosity lost it. :( Thought it went through okay as they usually do, but when I attempted to view it, I got a weird error page saying there were too many connections. I kept getting that page trying to reach any Renderosity link, so I gave up...still thinking my post had made it and I just couldn't review it right then. Well, hmph. Y'all missed out on some excellent writing! (heh...since you missed it and I'm not going to try to re-write it, I figure I can exaggerate just a wee bit...) :x

Sacred Rose ( ) posted Sun, 19 November 2000 at 5:56 AM

Varian,....ooooohhhhhhhhh...pleeeeeease rewrite for me? I love your writings ;-) Excellence is so difficult to come by these days...and you simply ooooooze in the stuff LOL Seriously, please, share your experiences....we should form a Zygote experience support group LOL ;-)~ Sacred

MikeJ ( ) posted Sun, 19 November 2000 at 6:31 AM

Yeah Varian, I'd love to see it too! As for the slowness, Renderosity has been victim of quite a few spider attcks lately. At least one guy got caught, and had his ISP shut him down, but RCook says it could have just been normal net congestion. Cheers, Mike

Varian ( ) posted Sun, 19 November 2000 at 10:25 PM

I think it was just that the site was way busy at the time. Problem was, I didn't have a copy of what I wrote, so I couldn't re-post. As for trying to re-write it...no way! It was truly inspirational, oozing excellence, and it was so "of the moment." The moment, alas, has gone. :sniffle sob: Eh, what I had to say about meeting Johnny Cash wasn't all that exciting anyway. :)
