Holy cow my username sux!!! First initial + lastname =LAME!!!!! Actually I guess it would be more like: Golly "g" "helmer" (at the helm - I dunno!!) I've had people read my email address as "jell-mer" Like "Jello" + "Mer" I officially am very disapointed with my username... In real life most folks call me G man though... wish I put that instead!! G

During my years as a constable, when I came around to my fathers house. My father would say "Oh look whos' here..Robocop!" So, I accepted the nickname. But trying to make a usename Robocop on forums isn't easy.."Already taken". So, I decided to take half of Robocop to Robo, and then put a year at the end. No one has an 2010 at the end of their username. 5 more years off. :-) So you can say.."Robo 2 thousand 10" or "Robo twenty....Ten" Or the long way.."Robo two zero...one...zero"...lmao People reply with "Robo"..which I find just as good.
'but I know no English speaking person who is able to pronounce the AN part correctly' Oh, I can. I took french and german at school and scots find french pronunciation quite easy. I had no problems with french, although to be honest, I prefer italian. After 20 years here, I'm pretty fluent. The people where I live speak an italian-french patois, and I watch swiss-french TV, so I keep it up a little, but not as much as I'd like. Fr-awn-swah would be the nearest I could get in type, but it misses the rrrr sound. mac PS Most people don't know a cedilla or a circumflex from a bar of soap, unfortunately.
Hey Mac, I might start calling you Harley ;) And I live in Maclean (well, about 1km out of it) and it's pronounced like yours - it's a Scottish town which is very proud of it's heritage - so proud, they have all the family tartans painted on the bottoms of every telegraph pole rolls eyes I thought Kisiel was pronounced Kiss - ee - el (el as in Superman). Francemi, I thought your's was Fran - see - me :) Porthos, every time I see your nick I think of Archer's cute little cheese eating dog LOL Of course, it never takes me much to associate anything with Star Trek ;) Mine is just Zee - nah, like the warrior queen :) I'm a fan shrug and because my real name is close, most people just call me Xee (pronounced Zeee - my real name is Lee) now.
Mine is easy also. Lil' short for little, I am short, and Wolff because I have lupus. I was going to use LilLupus many years ago. But it kept reminding me of an old song, Little Egypt. "Yeh, let me tell you people LilLupus doesn't dance there anymore" "Singing, ying-ying, ying-ying, ying-ying, ying-ying" ;-)
'so proud, they have all the family tartans painted on the bottoms of every telegraph pole' rolls eyes too I don't mind people being a bit patriotic, but I cringe when I see stuff like that. There's nothing worse than ex-pats doing the 'old country' routine. Harley???? Must be an Oz thing? Xena is cool. Anything that bad, becomes totally watchable. Like Cell Block #9 or whatever it was called. mac
Maclean, thank you for reminding me. My sister's boyfriend is Scot and you are right, he is able to pronounce my name correctly. And I agree with you, not many people know about the cedilla. Unfortunately, many French speaking persons write my name without it too.
Apart from my sister's boyfriend, all English speaking people try to pronounce the AN sound and some come near but NONE of them pronounce the rest correctly and they end up calling me Franis (no E at the end) and that gives me a man's name. I am a woman BTW. ;o) P.S. Xena, no, I am not at all the kind of person who absolutely wants for others to see her. loll

Daio (day-oh) has been my nickname for 28 years now and you wouldn't believe the ways people have pronounced it. "I commonly get "die-oh' or day-ee-oh" from folks trying to pronounce it. My mother can't seem to get the "oh" part - she calls me "day-ah" or just "day". BTW I thought I made the name Daio up, not knowing there it was actually a MAN's name in Japan ( I'm female and I have no idea how they pronounce Daio in Japan).

beachnut - Simple enough but people always wanted to know why I named myself after a tree! I love the ocean I'm a beach-nut. Not the beechnut tree, not beechnut the chewing gum ;)
I think garblesnix and LawnDartLawnDart defintately win the best name trophy for this thread hehee!
And Francemi..Well...I just call ya France ;)
Anton, I always thought your last name was Kee-zul.

Hmm, I thought Anton's last name was pronounced KIE-zell with the emphasis on the first syllable. Nothing fancy about mine, simply my last name, literally pronounced "Red" "Fern" (as in a non flowering plant that is red in color). English in origin, the family name still has a presence in the British Isles (where it's still spelled "Redfearn"); however, my closest relatives and I hail from south Georgia. Funny how people interpret the origin of my name. Some thought I was the offspring of '60s "Flower Children"; others thought it was Native American, like Roundtree. When I joined an "ElfQuest" mailing list, more than one person assumed it was a concocted name keeping in theme with Wendi and Richard Pini's independent comic saga. Heh, go figure. Sincerely, Bill
Tempt the Hand of Fate and it'll give you the "finger"!
Thribble-Bivver-whack.... lol well mines easy shed of joy... also i have been told it sounds like the name of a Porn site Shedofjoy.... lol.... (not allowed to put in the .com because i was recently told off by theFixer for doing that, tis against the TOS apparently..ho hum)
Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.
"I'm female and I have no idea how they pronounce Daio in Japan" They would say "die-o" (dai is basically pronounced the same as "die" over here), that's why I thought it was "die-o" too. :) "Oh yeah, it's "show-ko-no-stlay." LOLOLO, I never really tried to sound your name out, and always just saw you as "X-on-cost-el" or "X-con-ost-el". Oops. ;D SnowS

I do not speak as a representative of DAZ, I speak only as a long-time member here. Be nice (and quit lying about DAZ) and I'll be nice too.
For the older crowd: "You can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay, or you can call me Johnny, but you's don't have to call me Johnson!" Gary. I added the extra "eee"s as a joke when I worked at Disney's Animal Kingdom. We couldn't properly pronounce many of the South African's names, and when I added the 3 eee's on my nematag, they actually pronounced them hard, (Gare-e-e!)which was pretty funny. It made a easy exclusive google search, and nick, so I kept it.
Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Can't go wrong with mine. Or my current surname. Wise choice I made marrying a Duggan. My maiden name was Boczek (Polish father). Pronounced 'Bow Check' Not many got that one right. Helen

Oh gods...I can't breathe I'm laughing so hard. :) Doesn't help that it's 11:30 pm and I'm simultaneously agonizing over lighting setup and desparately trying to locate clue 6 over at DAZ....
Well my username is relatively simple I think "SkyeWolf" = Sky Wolf
grins but most people just call me Skye (yes in real life too). edit Oh and I'm female BTW. I know that tends to get mistaken, especially when one's gallery is full of naked women wink

Leather Guy as in "that leather guy". So many conversations and phone calls I get start with "Are you that leather guy who did the cool celtic vambraces (or sword rig, or presentation panel, or whatever) for (insert name here)?", so I picked leather-guy as my screen name with my first online email account. Kinda kept it up from then. Tooling historical designed leathers started as a hobby to get away from my "real-world" computer job, but I started making decent money at it, and finally became a leather tooler full time several years back. Now I play with a computer in my free time for diversion. . . I thought ynsaen was just neasny spelled backwards, and Anton's last name rhymed with Bissel. Fun thread.

Pronounced as N Gal 47 - Engel is Dutch for Angel, as my first name is Angela which means "a messenger from God" (really) and 47 is the age I was, when I took up poser and joined this site, and I haven't looked back since :) The user name I had most trouble deciphering was ynsaen.
