Subject: COUPON FAILURE

mazzam ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2011 at 3:45 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 3:33 AM

The newsletter promotional coupon was not recognized when I used it. I entered it exactly as shown on the promotion page. I have been a newsletter subscriber for years and it is noted on my profile. Is there by any chance an error in the code?

KristiS ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2011 at 4:20 PM

Hello,

I am not showing you as a newsletter subscriber which is why the coupon will not work for you.

Warmest Regards,

Kristi

I know I have received the newsletter in the past and my profile says I want to receive the newsletter, so how do I get back on the list. I must have been dropped by accident. I am getting calendar announcements by email, several a day for that matter.

KristiS ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2011 at 4:39 PM

Hello,

Calendar announcements are different then the newsletter.

Just be sure it says "yes" you would like to receive notifications and emails from Renderosity and click the "submit" button.

The next time the batch job runs, it should add you back on : )

Thanks!

There is a coupon that is a smaller discount for non newsletter subscribers that you can use. You should have received a sitemail with a link to a page with both codes on it FYI

mazzam ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2011 at 5:02 PM

My profile has this option:

Receive email newsletters, announcements,
and special offers from this site?

and I have checked YES. It has been YES ever since I joined the site.

If your batch job is looking for changes, it isn't going to find one because it has always been YES.

And why did I stop getting the newsletter when I never indicated that I didn't want it?

StaceyG ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2011 at 5:17 PM

When Kristi checked, the box was a NO so it was set to not receive promotions and newsletters.   The database does show it is now set to YES but was set to NO prior to approx 20 minutes ago... Did you receive the newsletter this week on Wednesday?

The batch job I think will run tonight if I'm not mistaken so tomorrow you should be able to use that newsletter coupon.

mazzam ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2011 at 6:59 PM

The last copy of the newsletter I can confirm receiving was on December 19, though I am pretty sure I received later issues that I deleted from my inbox. At no time did I ever check the 'NO' box in my profile with respect to receiving emails and notifications. So there is some date base issue in your profile data base that your technical folks should be worrying about, or someone is tampering with profiles. As someone with professional experience with computer systems I suggest that you write up a trouble ticket or its equivalent for your technical folks. I hope you would agree that unrequested changes to profiles could have more serious consequences - perhaps even legal - than my inconvenience!

Thanks for your help.

StaceyG ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2011 at 8:12 PM

If you have emails from us that bounce on more than one occasion in a row then it will cause an issue with your account which could be the case. I will get with them because they can tell me I believe where the change originated from but I can assure you that there is no issue that we would ever physically go in and change anyone's profile without their request. The only way that would have came from our system is like I stated above, multiple bounces to your email address and this is an automated process but if that happened you would have also had to revalidate your email address with us so you would know about that. Have you had to revalidate with us that you remember?

mazzam ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2011 at 9:47 PM

I forgot to mention that when I checked my profile for the email setting I noticed that my country had changed from United States to Afghanistan.

I also vaguely remember something about resetting something but I don't recall the details. I completed all the transactions whatever they were, and everything seemed to work after that, except maybe the newsletter since I have continued to get automatic calendar event and gallery alert messages at my email address..

So maybe whatever mishap changed United States to Afghanistan in my profile also clobbered my email address which would have triggered the reset transaction.

And by the way, it isn't just the discount coupon. I find the newsletter quite useful. I always look at it and really want to get back on the mailing list.

LadyElf ( ) posted Mon, 24 January 2011 at 9:51 PM

Okay this thread made me check my profile as well and my country has been changed to Greece. I've changed it back to the United States.

That's all that was changed for me, still shows me receiving the newsletter but it's been really late.  On top of that I received one of those emails in my mail telling me about the coupon for non newsletter people did even newsletter subscribers get that?

Something is odd, thought you would want to know.

Thank you for resolving the problem.

Please delete my post above, I don't see any way to edit it.

Thank you, I enjoy the products at renderosity and will continue to buy from here.

If I didn't already spend so much at DAZ this month before finding out renderosity had so much, I'd probably buy more right away, lol!

Renderosity has some very unique vendors, whose products are very high quality or very unique and useful!

Thank you,

Ronny

I see from this thread that several people experienced the country name change in their profiles. (As a retired computer professional I can state that there is no such thing as a benign bug!) It means the member profile data base has been corrupted, and since the newsletter list is controlled by the profiles, that would account for inconsistent behavior of newsletter mailings and promotions depending on the newsletter. Customer support is trying to help, but the evidence so far suggests that technical support is unwilling to admit they have a major problem. This sort of behavior is not helpful to customer relations, since it suggests that the site can't be trusted to report problems affecting user information. It is much better to let users know that there is a problem and that it is being worked on. And follow up with a message when it is finally fixed. (I hope someone in site management reads this post.)

Are you referring to the last coupon Sandy? This one http://www.renderosity.com/special-coupon-codes-enclosed-cms-15422

Also from our programmers regarding the country codes (which have NOTHING to do with the opt in/out of the newsletter)

Previously the "country" field on your member profile was an open

input field, which means that the member could enter any text for

their country regardless of whether or not the country actually exists.

We are currently in the process of normalizing the country data for all

members of Renderosity and making sure that visitors/members select a valid country.

There were some errors in assigning a country in this process in the

initial upgrade based upon the bad data/country information entered by many users.

The majority of these errors (if not all of them) will be fixed in the

coming days.  The normalization of the country data in no way affected the

opt-in/out selection for newsletter subscribers.

Mazzam,

I have some information I will be sending you regarding the bounces to your email. There were quite a few of them in December which is what caused our automated system to need you to revalidate everything.  I also have the information that  shows where you "opted out" or "unsubscribed" through the actual email broadcast you received.  These things are what attributed to you not appearing as a newsletter subscriber.

Thanks

LadyElf ( ) posted Tue, 25 January 2011 at 3:45 PM

Okay I know I didn't enter a bad code so I'm still wondering why it went from the United states to Greece.

I'm not concerned about it on the newsletter side, I am concerned that it was changed at all.

mazzam ( ) posted Tue, 25 January 2011 at 7:00 PM

If I opted out, as you say, it was because the option was worded in a way such that I did not understand it. And that I had opted out was not reflected in my profile which is the only way I know of to be aware that there was an issue. The instructions that came along with the newsletter promotion specifically said to check ones user profile to see if the option was checked YES or NO. and mine said YES. So there seems no way for me to know that I had accidentally 'opted out'. Is there?

And it is still true that after my subscription status was updated on Saturday, I applied the coupon for a single item as a test and reported that it worked. But I used the coupon again on Sunday to complete my planned purchases, well before the coupon expired and it failed again. So have I been taken back off the the subscription list? I can't tell by looking at my profile. Are you surprised that I am still confused as to what is going on?

If someone can just tell me when the next newsletter is coming out, I can just watch for it. OK?

SndCastie ( ) posted Tue, 25 January 2011 at 7:46 PM

Yes that was the one and you guys need to quit changing things you always have the experation date right where the coupon code paragraphs are but this time you put it over on the side in small letters no wonder I couldn't find it. Someone else answered me before you so just forget I mentioned it.

With respect to the email glitch, the bounced emails must have been going to the wrong address for some reason. I do seem to recall that my email provider, Earthlink, had to shut down their service for a day to correct a problem, so that may have been where some of emails addressed to me were going somewhere else. I am absolutely positive that I never ever unsubscribed to an email from Renderosity. So I am formally requesting that I be removed from the unsubscribe list, since that seems to over-ride the setting in the user profile. I hope this clears up the misunderstanding.

Thanks for your patience.

The newsletter arrived! All seems to be working. Thanks again for everyone who helped fix it.

Sandy where we put the expiration date does vary depending on whether it's in a broadcast email of it's own or a front page article or a sitemail so it would be beneficial for you to read the entire contents of the coupon information.  In this coupon instance there were three different ways to see it....

It was listed in the sitemail message in the first sentence or two

Now is the perfect time to make sure you're signed up to receive the Renderosity Newsletter!  From now through Sunday, January 23rd at 11:59pm (cst) we're offering an amazing coupon opportunity exclusively to our subscribers.

Then on the front page article it was listed right ABOVE the coupon code

The following coupon code is for NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIBERS ONLY and is good for 25% off of your next purchase of $10 or more. This code is valid starting Thursday January 20th and ending on Sunday January 23rd at 11:59pm.

Then in the email broadcast it was listed right ABOVE the coupon code in the COUPON DETAILS information

Coupon valid Thursday January 20th thru Sunday January 23rd at 11:59 pm (CST)

Thanks

Stacey
