sorry, but I'm hitting three problems with your form... #1... it dosent show up as a secure server #2... it dosent accept my PPP serial number at all #3... it requires a second line in the address form

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

raven ( ) posted Tue, 18 September 2001 at 7:18 PM

'Fill out all parts in red' - but England ain't on the country list so it's not fast or easy! What do we do? ;)

Irish ( ) posted Tue, 18 September 2001 at 8:02 PM

I'm from Canada and it rejected me the first time but then I realized I hadn't added the 2nd address line so I just put N/A on it and it accepted my registration. Irene

Papu ( ) posted Tue, 18 September 2001 at 8:48 PM

USA, Canada, France, Germany, Japan..... hmmmmm, that doesn't cover too many countries in which Poser can be bought... So I guess it's not registration time after all :(

Letterworks ( ) posted Tue, 18 September 2001 at 8:55 PM

I have tried to enter both the serial numbers for Poser 4 and Pro Pack. It accepted the Poser 4 Serial number but rejected my Pro Pack serial number as invalid. Can some one tell me who to contact about this. I purchased Pro Pack direct from Curious Labs and the rejection really bothers me! Thanks Mike

Greywolf Starkiller ( ) posted Tue, 18 September 2001 at 9:20 PM

Same here. I ordered the PPP direct from CL, but it doesn't recognize my serial number.

The page crashes Netscape 4.77 every time I try to load it. I've been on y'alls site before, got the latest service pack and wandered around and none of the other pages crash Netscape.

Fyrene ( ) posted Tue, 18 September 2001 at 9:37 PM

Dont most people register their products after they have installed it? I dont understand what this registration is all about.

MikeNTexas ( ) posted Tue, 18 September 2001 at 9:41 PM

I have to ask, why is there this request to register Poser again? I have to say I registered with MetaCreations when I upgraded to Poser4. Did the registrations not transfer to CL?

Poppi ( ) posted Tue, 18 September 2001 at 9:49 PM

This makes me very suspicious. Curious labs, hopefully, is at least somewhat more professional than to give a "headsup" like the one we got, up top. There are folks out there, who could want your information....quick...for, lord knows what kind of enterprise. This site is really down on "script kiddies". However, in my opinion this link is bogus. Think of it....you have a company that owns a program like POSER... You spam us with a link about it...wow...(even offering a "prize)where to sign up with your cc numbers. You flash this on any and all websites where the interests are in the product..i.e...poser. AND..this is the same day, where all of us behind a firewall have noticed an amount of folks trying to hit us from port 80. Sometimes, I make a post when I am not "thinking", for whatever reason. I think, in these new, and predicted to be, strange times. We have to double think stuff for ourselves. (might do away with impulse buying, and part of our economy). Please, be a little suspicious. Did any of you try and contact CL? Okay, laval...yadda yadda...did you email anyone there? I mean...a person/persons, making their income off of illegal internet, could 1. Gather passwords. 2. Gather financial information on respondents. 3. Find out personal information from what we divuled. 4. Keep our initial "registration information", to move a little father along in our identities. If the site is legit, curious labs...wow...you need to get your boogie down a whole lot better than this Pop...pop...pop!!! If it is actually curious labs. well, cl, weren't you solvent enough to.....??? Pop...pop...pop!!!

1.- I don't know why everytime I access Curious Labs Site My Netscape always freezes up I'm using Netscape Communicator 4.04 2.- Which red fields? I'm attaching a picture about what I got with my Netscape program at Curious Labs, before it freezes. Maybe the Curious Labs site must be better Nestcape friendly? Thanks for the attention.

Maybe it's just me but right now I am really down on the idea of registering anything at all. If I ever do register anything (ie the software makes me before it will function) I will not give out the truth. Jane Doe 123 Main st. Wala Wala WA 23456 noneofyourbusiness@biteme.com

AprilYSH ( ) posted Tue, 18 September 2001 at 10:39 PM

Hmm, why not register, or re-register? It's common practise... shrug kupa is Steve Cooper from CL, the director or president or whatever the head honcho title is. Back when I thought cl = daz, I was wondering why daz doesn't require a registered serial number before purchase, and if a serial validator could be set up on CL (like cc# validators) so that other online stores could use it as an escrow, things would be great. This way only people with legit software can but plugins. A serial validator escrow would be a server on CL that someplace like Renderosity would connect to in order to check your serial number entered into an embedded store-purchase form before allowing purchase and download. I pressume all online stores validate cc#, why not serial numbers too? And since the serials would only be kept at CL, they can't be compromised by the actual online store. As for privacy issue... it's a non issue for me (what privacy???) so I won't bother arguing it. Anyway, it's still optional afaik. So don't get too uptight people ;)

Same by me. The P4-number works, the number for PPP dont (both german edition). Im glad they cancelled the "forced registration". Sigh...

I've never received any benefit from registering software. Special offers? Hah!

gryffnn ( ) posted Wed, 19 September 2001 at 6:02 AM

Marque, you could ask if they would put up a registration form that can be printed out and mailed in. I refuse to use those electronic signature capture devices at store checkouts, and they always come up with an old-fashioned paper for me to sign when I persist. They can still scan my signature in, but I'm not going to do it for them.

brycetech ( ) posted Wed, 19 September 2001 at 10:11 AM

I do believe this is steve making the announcement, and it IS curiouslabs' site...so no need to suspect it. I just had the same debate with Amapi officials who are working with me setting up a forum on registration. They wondered why I hadnt registered and the answer is very simple. I never register. The only time I did, I got spammed from the company to buy more and more and more and more stuff via email and snail mail..not one bit of help or support or knowledge I didnt already have. If I wasnt bugged to death, I would register my programs (I still have all my reg cards)...and a company can not really say "you cant upgrade" if you arent registered. my .02 :) BT

duanemoody ( ) posted Wed, 19 September 2001 at 11:09 AM

Is this solely for Pro Pack, or do those of us who stuck with 4.0.3 have to re-register as well? I think we should be supportive of registering CL products. Letting a software company know you've installed their product successfully is no more a "fight the fascist pigs, man" issue than sending in your dryer's product registration card to Whirlpool. The only time I was surprised by this was when I bought a king-size box of cereal from Sam's Club that had a toy inside, and a month later received mail informing me that the toy was being recalled because it was dangerous. Do you bemoan the fact that Hasbro used Sam's Club's database to track all their sales across the country, or do you applaud their commitment to see to it everyone knows about the potential danger? As far as trying to use non-registration as a guarantee of upgrade path, I can only assume you don't own any Adobe products. All of their upgrades and offers are strictly time sensitive and half an hour on the phone with their customer service people will not get them to budge an inch. Trust me on this one. That said, I would certainly expect any company that maintains a registry of product owners to bear the responsibility of notifying them of defects and how to repair/replace them (e.g. the toy car). Much as I appreciate Steve Cooper posting his (premature?) notice here, there's no guarantee I would have read it or that I'm even a member here. Email is a more appropriate medium for these kinds of notices.

shadowcat ( ) posted Wed, 19 September 2001 at 11:29 AM

Tracking down a defective toy is all well and good, but the truth is that you don't know what any company is going to do with your information after they have it. I am sick of getting ads in the mail and e-mail following resistration of something. For example I buy an HP printer and register it (via a rebate) I then get ads in the mail left and right for all their other products: computers, digital cameras, scanners, the list goes on. Furthermore who are these companies going to share my data with? Who is going to process my name and address? Many companies employee convicts for this purpose. I'm not saying that Curious Labs will be guilty of this but simply that this is the kind of stuff that is happening if you register a product.

brycetech ( ) posted Wed, 19 September 2001 at 12:39 PM

guys, Im not saying "dont register" this is one way they have an idea how many have the product, but I am saying "I" dont register anymore. Once was enuff. I have never had a problem upgrading to another version (and I do legally own and have purchased adobe 4 and 5, 5 was an upgrade) I just bought a program from the internet...I gave my real name, address, phone number... for several days now I have been spammed by companies via email, snail mail and phone for "since you have that..why not try this" schpills. Something that had almost stopped. fact is, companies make money by selling things like addresses, phone numbers, names...it may not be the company from whom you bought, but could be your cc company..or even your isp. They do it..every day. Im just of the mind, dont send me the stuff, if I want it...I will find it. Save a tree :) and if a company EVER tells me I cant upgrade because Im not registered...shrug, I'll just consider it money saved...or go somewhere else (another company) and buy a competitor's product. To each his own. Ya want to register..go for it. Ya dont..same. later BT

A quick couple of comments- 1. The registration information we received from MetaCreations was very incomplete. So many people have contactd us in the past that had registered Poser with Meta yet they still don't show up in our records- a bad thing if you want to get replacement CDs for instance, because yours got scratched. So, re-registering is a good thing if you think it's valuable to a part of our records for follow-up at a later date. 2. If we don't have a way to get in touch with you, how can we let you know about future versions being available? Maybe you get everything you ever need from Renderosity, but if something should change down the road, the only sure way I can think of is for us to be able to get in touch with you. If you don't want that to happen, that's okay. But without giving you a way to be on our list, it's a sure thing that we can never get directly in touch with you. 3. You'll never have to be registered to get an upgrade. As long as you have a valid serial number, you'll qualify for upgrades. 4. Netscape issues? It shouldn't happen. We're checking into it. 5. Rejected PPP serial numbers? That should be fixed. 6. Other countries? That should be fixed as well. 7. Will we sell this information? No. It doesn't help us to have you spammed by a bunch of other folks. You'll ignore OUR communications. The only way this information has any value as a communication tool to us is if we protect it, and don't ever wear out our welcome in your IN BOX. And if you don't want us to ever send you anything, we'll be adding a privacy note and a check box that states that you don't want to hear from us. 8. My favorite one- it's not really a post from Curious or Cooper. I won't even go near that one. :-) Sincerly, Steve Cooper Curious Labs

It's your javascript that crashes Netscape 4.77, when I turn off javascript, there is no crash on your registration page. What's with the "asgasdasdadsgasgd" line after the country text box?

Scott, My skin's pretty thick these days, no worries on my end about comments. It's all "feedback" if we keep the right perspective. Turns out we fumbled the reg page on our end a little bit. Our web designer didn't pass it through QA before going live. I'm always the last to know these things...oh well. :-) Steve Cooper
