I don't use IE. I use Chrome, and other than some slow loading times - which isn't due to the browser I don't think - everything else is fine.

Maybe try using Chrome or Firefox instead of IE and see if that helps solve the issue.

Might also post this in the Community Center forum, or I can move it there for you.

hornet3d ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2014 at 4:06 AM

The problem has been reported in the Community Center  forum under blank pages.  The issue appears to be when using IE 10 or 11.  I have switched to Chrome for the time being and it is working fine

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

All of my Windows PC's return blank pages on IE.

The only way to come here is on an Android tablet.

And loading times require lots of coffee.

Ragards Chrome and IE, it's pretty freaky when people mention they're still using those commercial browsers!
I wonder how many people actually listened to the words in that video at Roxie's link?

Scary!

For me it looks normal in IE11.  Same as FF, same as Chrome.

Normal on NewRendo is not good, but it's certainly not blank.

Well, it surprises me that people still use Firefox, which is slow as molasses, and is full of browser killing bugs every single time it updates. Last time I used Firefox, I couldn't get it to stop crashing every 20 seconds or so, after an update. This is par for the course, and I got tired of having to hunt down previous versions every bloody time I got the melodramatic fear-mongering warning that I needed to update because.... they found "a serious, deadly, most likely fatal security issue that if not addressed will result in the deaths of everyone you've ever loved".  Mozilla also likes to force updates on people, so you can only hit the infuriating "update or die" nag so many times before it will just do it on its own.

Yeah, Firefox's extensions are better for protecting you from malware, but they can't protect you from Firefox, which FOR SOME USERS is malware all by itself.

Use if it works for you. But don't belittle other people for using something else because it doesn't work for them.

I don't know why anyone would think Firefox isn't a commercial browser. Mozilla makes money from it just as Google makes money from Chrome and MS from IE.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Corporation

And their relationship with Google isn't exactly as an "independent".

"The Mozilla Corporation's relationship with Google has been noted in the popular press,[26][27] especially with regard to their paid referral agreement. Mozilla's original search deal with Google expired in 2011, but a new deal was struck, where Google agreed to pay Mozilla just under a billion dollars over three years in exchange for the browser to leave Google as its default search engine."

Seriously, Pumeco, your continual one-side app bashing and insulting of people who use anything other than what you do is starting to get annoying.

And if you think Firefox is better for privacy, think again. If you're using Firefox because you don't want Google to have your data... LOLOLOLOL.

"The release of the anti-phishing protection in Firefox 2 in particular raised considerable controversy:[36] Anti-phishing protection, enabled by default, is based on a list updated twice hourly from Google's servers.[37] The user cannot change the data provider within the GUI,[38] and is not informed who the default data provider is. The browser also sends Google's cookie with each update request.[39] Some[who?internet privacy advocacy groups have expressed concerns surrounding Google's possible uses for this data, especially since Firefox's privacy policy states that Google may share (non-personally identifying) information gathered through safe browsing with third parties, including business partners.[40]"

Truth is all three mentioned browsers are data hogs for large corporations and third parties. But all three function well, including IE 11, and are about as equivalently secure. Use the one that works for you and your OS.

If you want real privacy, code your own browser. It's not impossible. :)

@Moriador
WTF, and your continual support of what is PROVEN to be corporate malware, while badmouthing completely audited products designed by the public to protect the public, is pretty damn annoying as well, in fact, it borders on sickening.

I've never had a problem with FireFox, so perhaps try looking into what other corporate malware you have on your system, remove it, and it should work fine.  As for the Goolge thing, lol, I'm not even going to entertain that one, you need to learn what it is and how FireFox users have control over it, but you don't.

I think you're annoyed that you couldn't ratiionalise what you do in the other thread, so you've chosen to have a pop at me in this one.  The link was posted as a heads-up for people, so chill, you don't have to visit it or install it, but please refrain from badmouthing things you clearly know nothing about, just to make yourself feel better about what you use - I don't care what you use - or what uses you.

pumeco ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2014 at 8:31 AM · edited Thu, 13 November 2014 at 8:32 AM

You need to understand the difference between products that have been openly audited (checked) by the public, and those that haven't!
I don't need to code my own browser.

Wrong, and if switching something off is difficult for some, they can always use IceWeasel (another FireFox based browser) focused specifically on privacy.

I did use Chrome for a while and still do when issues like this crop up, the reason I went back to IE was because I built a system with an SSD and wanted to move all the Temp folders to a conventional hard drive.  There is, or maybe was, no easy way to do this with Chrome files.   After two days of trying all the internet suggestions I gave up, moved to IE and moved the temp folder in less that five minutes.

As to other browsers well I do not subscribe to the 'public good, cooperation bad' school of thinking but I do subscribe to the 'if it isn't broke don't try and fix it school' school.

I worked for a number of large co-operations in my career and always thought that a smaller business would be more attuned to their customers and far more ethical. I Later worked for two companies which were husband and wife concerns.  Biggest crooks I ever came across and it was somehow worse, at least any victim in larger cooperation were faceless in the smaller company if seemed much more personal.

One thing I really did learn over a very long career is that there is no such thing as a free lunch.  Pay up front and you often know the true cost.  Take the free route and it can bite you much further down the road.

I was a long-time Firefox user and liked it a lot, until it just decided that it wasn't going to work anymore, and no amount of uninstalling and reinstalling was going to fix it. It wouldn't play videos on any site for any reason without giving me constant plug-in crashes telling me to install or re-install such n such plug-in, which did no good, and it got to the point where even pages without videos wouldn't load half the time.

I haven't used IE in over 10 years. It's on my PC simply because I'm on a windows OS. I never update it - i think I have it blocked from updating on its own - and if I open it now it acts like I just installed it.

I've been using Chrome for about 5 years now. It's simple and doesn't give me crap, or try to install 3rd party apps and tool bars and such that I don't want and just annoy me.

I did re-install Firefox sometime last week just to check something I was reading about, which I'm regretting as now I have 2 3rd party apps that it installed without my knowledge or consent  that I can't uninstall without reverting my system. One is some kind of driver support BS that keeps giving me bogus system scans and telling me all my drivers are out of date - which they are not - and wants to charge me $19.95 a month to fix them. I can download and install my own drivers for free when they're out of date, which I do regularly. So this nonsense about Firefox not installing malware is exactly that - nonsense.

I've never had that trouble with Chrome. It always tells me if something is trying to be installed or trying to change my settings, and gives me the option to block it or remove it. The only thing it does is crash on me once in a while if I have too many tabs open - which is my own fault, as sometimes I can have as many as 30+ tabs open at one time cause I tend to open links in new tabs, as I have to keep an eye on this site while I'm working so a handful of them are usually 'rosity tabs. I also pull up reference images in one tab and move it over to the other monitor so I can work and still keep up with whats going on here.

I'm speechless, it's almost as if you've both been getting hijacked downloads due to a compromised system or something.

It's been the opposite experience for me, I used to hate Firefox years ago and avoided it for feeling a bit sluggish.  That was years ago though, the Firefox I have now is smooth as silk, hasn't crashed once, doesn't enable things it shouldn't by default, and certainly doesn't install anything other than Firefox without asking.  I even watch YouTube without Flash installed.

So no, it's not nonsense, but providing you're both being genuine, I honestly have no idea what's going on there with your installations, because believe me, if I'd experienced even one of those things, it would not be on my system, either.  Unauthorised installation of drivers, constant crashing, nags for updates and slow performance sounds like your systems have been compromised in some way.

Firefox is just not like that from my experience and I've been using it happily for a fair few years now.  Then again, when I visit mozilla.org, I know I'm truly getting mozilla.org and not some cloned diversion due to a compromised system.  For peace of mind, I always download my Windows version of Firefox using my Debian installation then transfer it via a USB stick, I never use Windows for downloading something as vital as a web browser.  But yup, I'm getting what I should and it's every bit as good as they say it is, I honestly have no problems with it.

Hmmm ... weird.

hornet3d ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2014 at 5:30 PM

I have to admit that I do like Chrome and still use it on my laptop and other PCs that are not fitted with SSDs.  If I had any ideas about using Firefox then the negative comments here would put me right off but the truth is all I want from a browser is to let me visit sites like Rendo without any real bother.  Both IE and Chrome do that so I have better things to do with my time than download and install new software when the software I have already meets my needs.

I know there is a view that big corporations get big by being greedy but there is also the possibility that they are big because they supply software that and lot of people need or like and are happy to pay for.  Difficult to prove which of these statements is true for any given company.  I certainly have a number of companies that are on my 'black list' and will never buy from, but that is my list and I see no reason/justification to rant at others that do buy from, or use products, that are on my list.  Then again I suppose one person's healthy use of ethical/safe products is another mans view of paranoia.

Oh I know, Chrome is a nice browser (used it myself for a while some time back) but it's made by Google and that's why I don't use it anymore.  First of all it started messing around with my printer dialogue, totally taking over the default system version, then I found out it was only pretending to delete browser history.  That was the last straw, it was removed immediately and won't be finding itsef back on my system under any circumstances.

Sorry to hear of your problem with Firefox, it definitely sounds a bit dodgy to me though - lol

movie "1984". If ya think we have any more freedom or privacy then them ...

1984 was published in.... 1948. Orwell was not predicting the future. As the title tells you, he was commenting on the state of affairs at that time. The only thing that has changed is the technology -- and the fact that we now know it's happening. But it's been going on for a long, long time. :) (There's good evidence that the government of James I knew exactly what Guy Fawkes was up to and may even have instigated the conspiracy -- in 1605. Those dastardly Brits!) [And, I agree with your point, RorrKonn] Should we worry? In my opinion, if you're a Muslim or member of other targeted groups, yes. If you're a political activist or whistleblower, yes. If not, no. Should we do something about it? Yes. But protecting our own individual turf with tech or whatever isn't the answer. The problem requires a population backed political solution. But that's way off topic for this forum. (My apologies. Not intending to start a debate on this particular subject.)

I think a more correct assessment of Orwell was that he was predicting what was to come, based on what he saw was going on in 1948, and he would be correct, at least to an extent. The tech wasn't quite there by 1984, at least not on a wide-scale basis, but it is now. Just watched a news clip about a plane that can fly over and mimic a cell phone tower, recording all cell phone data being sent and received. Not just smart phones, all cell phones. I'm not surprised in the least bit. But it's only to catch 'criminals' of course.

Remember Scholastic News from elementary school? And all their sci-fi gadgets they talked about would be widely available by year 2000? Like hotels on Mars. Whatever happened with that?

I'm still waiting on my hover-car!!

But yeah, none of that tin-foil hattery in here folks. This is the poser forum. :)

I reported this in the Community Center forum... and they seemed to have fixed it (I HATE Chrome and FIrefox)...to have to "go get" all the "add ons" just to make it work... sheesh...but that's another subject and just MY opinion and I am dyslexic... so IE 11 it is.

NOW the forum pages load, but do still GO WHITE for about 2 seconds before the page I expect to see " pops in" ... so at least I can get around...

Life Requires Assembly and we all know how THAT goes!

politics , religion , aliens ,AI ... well might as well have fun with them, At least there entertainment for Art , music ,comics ,tv shows & movies. etc etc.

1984,V for Vendetta ,Sistine Chapel ,David ,Star Wars, Star Trek ,Matric.

I could go on & on.

though I have a hard time following the philosophy at times.

I like the philosophy .

I have to say, you have a very original mind. Who else would put George Orwell, Alan Moore, Michelangelo, George Lucas, Gene Roddenberry, and the Wachowski's all in one list. :) As for Orwell... Well, Shane, it's impossible to know what his intent was -- unless we can find something he wrote on the subject. But I always saw the book as very much in the tradition of other dystopias (or satirical utopias), beginning with Thomas Moore's "Utopia" and going on with Jonathon Swift's "Gulliver's Travels" and Samuel Butler's "Erewhon", which, while there are varying interpretations, are generally taken as criticisms of the political and cultural circumstances of the day dressed up as mythic fiction. Orwell wasn't a sci-fi writer, so I don't imagine him even trying to predict the future, and despite it being a largely gloomy book, there are elements of hilarity and humor that point to satire, in my mind at least.

The genre today tends to follow the tradition, more or less. Take as an example, Margaret Atwoods "Handmaid's Tale".  The future she describes isn't one that she expects to come about. It's more that she's examining the current (or then current) legal/political environment and taking the worst parts to their not-quite logical (slippery slope) conclusions. I believe this about Orwell's work as well mainly because the surveillance of citizens, by the Germans, the Soviets, and the of course the British was extremely evolved and involved. All they lacked was the technology. The fact that he was going to title the book "1948" is part of why I think it was originally meant to be a satirical take on that very year. (Ironic that his publishers insisted on changing the title to something less... obvious and provocative). But of course, that's just how I see the book, and I'm hardly an authority on the subject. :)

Again, scary stuff indeed, you're kidding yourselves if you think you only need to protect yourselves if you're a crimninal, and just so you know, it's believed that those with that sort of mentality are especially in danger.  This isn't the sort of thing that only bothers criminals, that sort of opinion died long ago, there are now millions upon millions of people around the world aware of what's going on and they're taking steps to protect themselves from it, it's got nothing to do with "tin-hats" and has everything to do with having a brain that fires on all cylinders.  People either understand why this stuff is important, or they just don't.  Most people will take whatever action they can to protect themselves from it, privacy is a right, not a criminal activity, so people need to quit sitting on their asses, dismissing the products and efforts that are being made by others to help protect you from these corporate, data-mining a-holes.

At the end of the day, the data these a-holes are gathering about you is absolutely NONE of their business.  The whole data-mining business has almost nothing at all to do with catching criminals, but everything to do with "data-mining".  So like I said, I'll stick to ensuring that my life remains my business, not their business.  I do that by using a sensible OS and browser, and unlike most, I am defeating the data-mining by using them, and it's the data-mining that is the biggest problem of all.

Being a human born with a right to privacy, the data-mining is something I take major f*cking issue with and will always protect myself from.  Basically, people need to stop acting like idiots and wise-up if they know what's good for them, nobody else will do it for them.

OK I get it already but along with the right to privacy is the individuals right to be an idiot if they want to.  As long as they don't try to buy things with my credit card that I have to pay for I am fairly laid back.  My posts on forums are already in the public domain which just leaves the information on the items I have purchased and my emails.  They are welcome to either but I have to say they are going to get very bored very quickly as the most exciting email in my inbox or outbox are to do with devices to enlarge certain parts of my body and the others where I have won the lottery or a long lost uncle has died.   The rest are seriously mundane.
