this morning the system will not let me post anything. very frustrating to go and give credits repeatedly and have them vanish

ptousig ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 6:25 AM

Seriously, guys. I say this as an IT guy, not as a frustrated user. If a money-making application at any of my jobs was this screwed up for this long, someone would be screaming at the top of their lungs for the upgrade to be rolled back.

Your vendors are complaining. I just buy stuff here, but if the vendors get pissed off, what are the implications for your business?

The triage going on here is too slow.

cosmo71 ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 7:10 AM

Well I think that because of the way RR did this "site-improvement" makes it obvious that RR has no backup of the former site. That is the reason why we still have this mess. Or RR has a backup but gives nothing on what we are criticize.
It would be easy to temporarily closedown the site for maintenance (surely with an announcement before) and reload the former site.

nwagner111 ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 7:14 AM

@ptousig
I'm not really sure if the IT guys are able to make a roll back? I believe that is not possible in this case!
What I ask to myself is, whether these errors aren't stuck out during their tests and I assume they have made many tests before they do this in production!

ptousig ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 7:20 AM · edited Thu, 20 August 2015 at 7:21 AM

@nwagner111

Maybe they can't roll it back. That certainly occurred to me. Of course, where I come from, making a change to a primary money-making app without a back-out plan would be grounds for dismissal. (Of course, it wouldn't be approved by management, either, so...)

From what I've read in other threads, there were testers who raised many of the same concerns we're seeing in the forums now, but apparently those concerns fell on deaf ears.

MrsRatbag ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 8:15 AM

I don't think anyone else mentioned this, but I also take issue with the fact that the "sharing with social app" and "allow images to be used in advertising" buttons are checked by default. More clicks to undo at upload (if that should ever happen again, that is.)

nwagner111 ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 8:18 AM

@ptousig
Uups! OK! Question:Why should I use guys who tests the new application and afterwards the concerns from my testers are not important? That would be absurd!

But my experience with such kind of projects are that the management has sometimes completely different ideas than the project members and the head of the project! :-)

I have never experienced something dilettante as this new site. No longer possible to upload images, no changes on the profile page possible. Every time it disappears somewhere in Nirvana. It opens a new tab in Firefox and this remains white. Nothing happens. ??? And where are all my viewings? Oddly enough, I have at the moment 1433 views, but 9489 favorites. Who can not count here? (I can remember, I had almost 250,000 views). This are only some examples, there is much more in a sorry state.
Can it be possible that they want to chase me away from here? After being a member since more than 11 year this makes me really sad.

Jean_, welcome in the non posted comments. Virginiese and me waiting always that our comments on the "revolution article" come. But it's better for renderosity to put in last a positive comment...
I saw at the instant the problem of SVEVA. I was surprised to see broken thumbnail. And of course, she hasn't picture in her download page...

At least, Runtimedna had the decence to prevent members for maintenance, and they locked their site for several days, to prepare all. Their site worked after. No need to annoy everybody.

We understand, renderosity want not take in count our problems, it's all.

helanker ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 8:58 AM

It is really disturbing for the eyes to see white on black instead of black on white. I am sure many as I, see this double. I can sit for 2 minutes, then I have to leave to restore my eyes from this eye abusing way of showing text. Depressing. Take a look at ipernity or Flickr ... ok not at their rotten tapestry, but the text. Much better.

CavalierLady ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 9:27 AM

Just for reference for the mods to read, I am also unable to upload images [on Firefox] and both preview attempts and upload attempts send me to a blank white page.
No error messages to tell me what I have done wrong, or which of the two images don't comply to site requirements, just a blank white page.
I have always made my images and thumbnails, 1200 x 800 and 300 x 200. I don't mind making thumbnails and assumed my images were small enough to comply with requirements.
For now, I will be patient until the IT folks have time to work through all the problems. Thank you.

After a few long minutes of navigating my way round the new site. -- I uploaded a new image. I observed restriction on file size 1200 W x 1500 H. I'm OK with that but when I submitted my image I was informed the height size for the gallery I wanted to upload in needed to be 1200. Are there restrictions in place for some galleries or is it just a glitch?

woodywoo ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 11:15 AM

Wow, just read all of this. Heres my take. This is the only place I post my work where I have to drag it through a program to edit the size. First it was for bandwidth size, now just size in general. And I'm required to create a Thumbnail now?
Just a heads up for you coders. Try a 'Auto Resizer'

CoyoteSeven ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 11:25 AM

I'm going to agree with Cosmo, the white on gray/black is easier on my eyes.

At least one thing, IMHO, that was done right.

As for the rest of this fustercluck referred to as an "upgrade"... ... ... 😬

RodS ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 6:30 PM

Well, I think it's rather telling that Hope has responded several times to Sveva, but continues to ignore the rest of us. Sveva is a vendor (and a very good one, so NO disrespect intended). However, it appears the rest of us are dog poop. Never mind that we're the ones buying all that stuff in the Marketplace. Try reading CoyoteSeven's post above. Then read it again. I had a very very small hope that Rendo would come to their senses and maybe turn this around. Don't see it happening. It's quite clear the PTB here don't give a damn about us,

KarmaSong ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 7:31 PM

In addition to all the problems mentioned above, I have NEVER EVER seen on the internet such amateurish programming: the so-called improvements that are supposedly made to make our navigation easier are quite something : you need more clicks to reach your destination than before, and if you want to go backwards in your navigation, you sometimes end up where you'd never been before !!!
What's more, I posted something in French for the French moderator in the French section of the site and there also, I had a good ( and sad ) laugh : the accents that are found on some vowels in the French language are no longer recognized on the brand-new revolutionary Renderosity site. Why????? Is the HTML programming language too difficult to handle for your professional programmers ??? I've tried to write French words with accents in html here and for some mysterious reason, it's the very first time I have seen a website that doesn't take these special characters into account. My God, even a child programming in HTML could place a code to make those accents possible, as special accents were made possible in the previous versions of Renderosity. Please don't tell us you take on your programmers in kindergartens...I am simply appalled by the amateurish tricky and complicated site you've come up with these days, and being patient will be of no use at all as more and more artists are wondering whether they should migrate their galleries elsewhere...It's urgent you should open your eyes and realize this new so-called revolution you've made goes backwards and makes navigation even more tedious and complicated.
When will I be able to write some words in my native language without seeing them written like strange hieroglyphs? Thank you very much in advance ,

mazzam ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 7:38 PM

I believe at least part of the 'white screen' problem is a failre to handle product references properly. Every time I have had the white screen I have gone back to the input page and see that the product reference links are changed to 'undefined'. Every time it has failed one of the references has been to a product by Danie who has a long list of products. And guess what, Sveva has a long list of products. This strongly indicates a bug in the code to find the product thumbnail that fails when the list for that vendor is too long. Very common type of software bug. Very amateurish not to trap it with an error message.

It is actually a lot easier now, this is the exact point of your activity feed.

The activity feed shows you the updates of all users you are following site wide. Good LUCK! 👍

Kristi stated in a different thread that the purpose of the update was to comply to Google's new asinine rules which require that a site be 100% mobile-compliant in order to show up on their search engine. That is why Rendo can't just revert to the old layout. (Of course, right now, the site doesn't look or work properly no matter what hardware you are viewing their site on) Judging by some of the lackluster search results I've gotten in the Image search recently, I believe it has already been implemented there, at least for some sites. Whether the gallery changes, "for you", and "activity feeds" have anything to do with Google's requirements, I have no idea.

Well, i put above the number of my message with a long list of problems. In page 4 of this topic. Miracle, the site counts correctly now?
After that message, Hope said "remain patients'. Problem, the list continues to be more longer.

Congratulations too , because now renderosity proposes a tutorial to understand the site: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro?thread_id=2893026
We are so stupid; they have the science of net, we not.

We are several to have post comment here: https://www.renderosity.com/renderosity-revolution-cms-17852
But it's better to keep in the end a positive note. By a vendor, coincidentally.

But i have impression of a double standard for vendors. Today, the picture of Powerage on their page of presentation

Great job renderosity: Sveva, Powevrage... Who is the next victim between vendors?

OMG! I was so happy that I actually was able to upload and what do I see? A gigantic image of a half naked lady planted right besides my photo. That is really abusing to me. Now that is indeed strategy. There is only respect for 3D art, now a days. They want us outa here. I am so disappointed in RR just now.

@helanker I just went to look at your post and this - "RASH? Trident Medical Center" - was next to the picture. Tasteless junk right next to your beautiful flowers.

creativeguy59 ( ) posted Fri, 21 August 2015 at 11:56 AM

Sorry I have decided to delete what I had in my gallery. More apologetic to several vendors that I gave credits to than anything. I did not use the gallery with the old limits much because I had to downgrade my images to put them up here. I don't have that restriction on DeviantArt and that is really my primary gallery area at this point as it is unrestricted. I will look at RDNA more actually now for gallery and stuff as I can work within limits there. The fact that this was changed down rather than up, as the old limits were so like 4-5 years ago specifications.... just kinda indicates the lack of importance the gallery has here. So if folks in the PTB don't take it seriously why should I. Good luck with your fact finding it shouldn't take this long to fix such issues.

Somebody is blowing smoke up somebody's ass here.

Just for gits and shiggles I searched google for porn, anarchist, druggie and other less than reputable sites... guess what?????

Almost all of them are not using so-called smartphone formats... and google is listing them.

Nice way to blame your SNAFUs on somebody else, Rendo... please, just admit you messed up, you're only human and go back to the better previous format.

JeniferC ( ) posted Fri, 21 August 2015 at 5:36 PM

Please Note: The gallery image size allowance will be updated to allow 4000x4000 full size images soon (like the old site). But please remember that those large images will still be re-sized for the gallery page layout and members will have to click on them to see the full size (and likely have to do a bit of scrolling). We are also going to bring back the ability to auto-create a thumbnail for you. That may be several business days before we can get that working well. Many of the auto-create thumbnails from the old site are some of the fuzzy thumbs that members have been complaining about, and members are welcome to update those.

We didn't remove gallery images, but it took a while a move them all over and some may still not be displaying properly if the original full size was over the 1200x1500. We are working on that and hope to have those properly displaying the larger image sizes soon. The upload and white page issues should also be resolved. And, the writers gallery has been updated to allow 25,000 characters.

@4222525

Jenifer,

All these problems should not have made it out of beta testing TO BEGIN WITH!

I've seen where the beta testers on other threads mentioned the plethora of bugs, but were either ignored or told it will be fixed when the "upgrade" goes live...
😦 SAY WHAT?! 😦

I would dare say a few minor bugs (usually present in all sites after a major upgrade/revamp) may have been graciously accepted by most members/customers/vendors, but the whole site gone FUBAR?

I think you all got the gist through the forums, that this was not acceptable.

I have a feeling there's going to be some heavy duty "keester smooching", especially to the vendors for awhile after this fiasco.
They're the ones that probably suffered the most due to this travesty.

Hopefully TPTB have learned something and will never repeat this atrocity, again:

  1. NEVER hire the lowest/cheapest bidder to do ANY job.
  2. Beta test the living crap out of your upgrade(s) and really listen to your beta testers during these tests.
  3. Never, ever, release a site upgrade with more bugs than an entomology research facility and expect your users to "roll with the flow" until we get it fixed.

Time will tell over the next few days if all these promises are fulfilled, but remember, the longer it takes, the more members/customers/vendors may be lost.

Just my 2% of the US Dollar.

Personal note: Really sucks that Dumbdown, er, Markdown does not allow the use of special characters (like the cent sign) in posts...
I understand it's really pi**ing off the European users of this site. TPTB may want to consider that little problem, too.

anahata.c ( ) posted Fri, 21 August 2015 at 8:36 PM

Jenifer...your posts are a sight for sore eyes. I'm very, very glad you will be restoring the image size as well as other functions. So please let me add---to many other voices---could you please also restore the 4096-character Description limit? It's so very important to so many of us who like to share stories, joys, jokes, and serious dedications to those we love (and for those who have passed on)---as well as to all the artists who have numerous credits. (With a workable paragraph function, etc.) You'll notice a number of complaints on this...

And, are the texts we wrote in our original Favorite Artist choices gone for good? I wish the site had notified us, before deleting those---some of us put our hearts into them, so we could let the artists and site know how much we appreciated the artists we love.

I know this will take time to re-do, and I'm not pressing for time: I'm just shouting a loud "hear! hear!" for your efforts.

And btw: No one has mentioned all the added functions in the comment boxes. That is a great addition.

Many of us have other complaints as well, but if you could address the above for now, it would be a very strong start. I was one of the many artists who were ready to leave. Now I have a reason to wait. Many thanks, Jenifer. Mark

Cosmo71 and coyoteseven: like helankar, I see double when I have to stare at white on black. Like I asked before, if white on black text is so great, why aren't books and magazines printed that way? White on black is okay for a sidebar, otherwise, it sucks, and sucks bad.

auntietk ( ) posted Sat, 22 August 2015 at 1:32 AM

I've said this in a couple other posts, but it bears repeating:

We now have oodles of room to write (25,000 character count everywhere, it seems, not just in the writer's gallery), and they fixed the text formatting problem, so now when you hit the enter key twice

you get a new paragraph.

:D yay!

And I am also happy to read, that the writers again can write their lovely stories.

Now we need to know, how we can see, when someone has commented on our upload and WHO too AND we need to know WHO favorized our post. I find it ok, that the fav botton is in the beginning, just when I have seen the image. It is better, now that the whole page doesnt need to be updated. Saves us a click and waiting time. Bravo.
