I just miss the way this place used to be. An occasional Poser nude that was just plain lame was laughed off the gallery. Now every other image is a tasteless possette (or Dork I suppose) in a compromising position. No one ever checks nude and they hardly ever care about censoring the thumbnails at least so you can avoid the crap. I am just sad that this great community is letting things get like this. Which tells me maybe I am in the minority and should move on.

allengraph ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 1:21 AM

I'm not much into Poser porn either LOL

Thanks Allengraph Bushi already moved my post from the poser forum lol

I have suggested to TPTB that users be able to block specific members' pictures. That would go a long way for me. I personally am sick unto death of the Dreaded Mutant Boobs the Size of Beachballs, among many other things. Peej

Hey, I posted a reply here and it didn't show up! Damn! It took me ages, too, and now you'll never know what I think! As if you care... ;)

Ignore poser stuff..its not hard to do :) and no offence is meant to the great poser artists here Keep us entertained and amazed with your art Vile..please Kate

wozzyke ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 5:35 AM

thats my opinion too, you dont have too look inside the poser galleies. I dont like the pics neither, I think there could me made very beatifful pics with poser, but its allways the same:PORNO,SEX, and those two again! So I am not longer looking in that gallerie, sorry for those who do not make this Porn stuff. Those who want to make porn stuff have to move to a specific community that only shows that stuff and I'm shure that exists and they will be glad to have them in their community..... Sorry but vile said something a whole bunch of people think, and it may be time to have the moderators reacting!!!! wozz

Rochr ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 6:36 AM

As long as a naked body is tastefully done, its nothing wrong with it. Problem is, that its hardly the fact most of the times. "Duh, ive just spent 2 minutes creating a nude chick. Lets post it!" A lot of work there... One can only wish those people could post their stuff at Renderotica and spare the rest of us here! What is so sexy about polygons anyway...? If you should leave us Vile, it would be a great loss to this community and you would only do those people a favor! They will probably get bored at making those pointless pinups sooner or later anyway...

Hey Vile, mostly I agree with you. But I don't agree that you should leave. There are many talented Poser artist here. But as you say, there is some kind of people here too which think it is art to show a quick render of a nekkid girl with legs spread wide open. Not very tasteful and absolute not what should be found here. And yes - I agree that thumbs should NOT show breasts and genitalia. The label "nudity" is missing often. I think, the crew should act more like a moderation on this and delete works which doesn't follow the rules. And I think, that most of the compromising and simple works (take naked posette, quick render and distribute) is made by either very young members or some who think this is erotic art. But that's lightyears away from art for my personal understanding. I like erotic art very much, if it is decent and well-worked. Not only a naked chick where you can see all the details like you surf on somekind xxx-page. Renderosity should - like other communities do - do something that the people who post images follow simple rules. And the first is to mark a work with the label "nudity" on the thumbnail and NOT show any of it on the thumbnail. This would bring the poser gallery back something of style. But again - there are many talented artist which works are excellent. And I love that well-developed erotica. But there are some, which disturb the whole community. Leaving would be the wrong way. It would some kind be a acception of what's going on, and that's not what this place deserve. If the administration isn't aware yet, we should contact them and explain our point. And it would be a huge step if they only could manage thet the users use the "nude" tag in the proper way. The Poser gallery from 3dcommune is a great example that rules can work and a gallery can fit good or high standarts. I don't visit the Poser gallery here often, but when I do, I'm angry about absolutely the same points as you. If you leave, this would be a great loss for me personally. Your great works are inspiring me so much, and you are a fine guy. Let's work on it together with the Renderosity team, ok? Take care, Jimi

tuttle ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 8:04 AM

Jimi has written basically the same as I did in my Magical Disappearing Post(!), maybe a little more strongly. Personally I don't get offended by stuff like this but I can see how a lot of people might. I just find it boring and extremely dull. Having said that, my mother came over the other day and I was showing her the gallery - I was embarrassed at a couple of the images that appeared in the thumbs - it looked like a page from a porno site. ...probably ;) What hasn't been mentioned yet is that many of these pics leave room for a rating and comment. How many of you (and I include myself here) have gone and posted a rating of 3 or 4 on these pieces, with comments of "boring" or "how long did that take - 2 minutes?" The thing is, if these people carry on getting 10's and "wonderful work!" then they're going to carry on posting! The comments sections are an opportunity to say what we think, yet we're all (mostly!) polite and only post ratings of 8 and above. Maybe it's time we singled out a few of the crappy Poser pics and handed out a few 2's and 3's! It won't cure the problem overnight, but at least we could say we'd expressed our views in a proper manner.

derjimi ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 8:29 AM

Well, sometimes I rate 2 or 3 if a 'work' is really not fitting any standarts. But mostly I don't waste time with it. But you're right - if nobody says something, they'll carry on. Take care, Jimi p.s.: tuttle, I ALWAYS copy my text in the clipboard before pressing the submit button. Lost very long postings before (not here) and know that it is a pain...

johnpenn ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 9:01 AM

I think the problem is the lack of a jury. There really needs to be a juried gallery so that the crap is weeded out, and there's a lot of crap. Also, if you look at Most Viewed images, they're always boob shots. Some are quite good, no denying that, but most are simply crank breast size to 11 and render. The hit count alone is a huge incentive for a renderer. I could rate low, but I've gien up on the rating system because it's flawed. Ultimately, this will happen anywhere that there's an open means of posting images. It's inevitable. Since you can't stifle creation by deleting what someone considers crap, what is called for is smarter moderation where a mod can delete thumbs and posts for not following the nudity courtesy. It sucks, and I've also teetered on the edge of giving up on renderosity, but it's not just for the softcore porn, it's because there's a lot of people that simply aren't artists and have little to offer in terms of criticism or inspiration. There are many that offer a lot, and it's unfortunate that there's so many crap factories to dilute them out. Like I said, my dream is to have a juried gallery and perhaps a selective forum for those with ability to contribute constructively. But I can't come up with a feasible system to make it work well. I don't like the idea of an elitist art club, but that's what I'm describing, so I don't know that it'll ever happen the way I want it, and if it did, I'm not sure I'd want to be a part of that either. So, you just have to take the good with the bad, and roll with it.

derjimi ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 9:44 AM

Quote: "what is called for is smarter moderation where a mod can delete thumbs and posts for not following the nudity courtesy." Yeah, that's it. I don't like your thought about the 'elitist art club' too because who will decide what is art and what not? It lies in the eye of the beholder. Using simple rules to tag nude works as nudity would be the right way. When this works, nobody must be ashamed to browse the gallery while somebody else is watchingand thinking this is a kind of porn site. This rule is quite simple and even more effective. It only lacks on following it and esp. force user to follow it. Take care, Jimi

tuttle ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 10:46 AM

Juried sites are good for a challenge (have a go at raph.com if you don't believe me!) but for a general site they wouldn't really work. The sheer volume of submissions mean you'd wait months. Look at juried stuff like digitalarts - my last one took 10 days to get in and their throughput is about 1% of Renderosity's. TBH, I think Renderosity is excellent the way it is. Of course there are flaws, but when you check out many of the other sites you'll realise that they are very live-able-with (?). Am I right BTW in thinking the nudity box doesn't put the word 'nudity' next to an image, it just makes sure the image isn't shown if someone has "don't show nudity" in their prefs? Maybe the "nudity" tag should be altered so that it just blanks out the thumb of people with these prefs, so that they can look at who the artist is and decide for themselves whether to view it. After all, a lot of artists who aren't members of the BTB (Big Tit Brigade) use nudity occasionally and it would be a shame not to see their work because of other people's crap art. And Jimi - CTRL-C - I remembered just in case!! ;)

electroglyph ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 11:18 AM

Please hang in there. The cavalry is on the way! I also think there are too many people using nudes in the poser site. I think this is due to a number of factors. Most kids get poser and hormones get in the way of a serious effort. A dressed poser character with hyper extended pinkies and elbows floating 3inches above the ground looks bad. Undress the same character and most males never get all the way down to her feet to see if they are on the ground. If you never clothe a character and use canned poses you don't have to figure out how to conform or use the dials. I have yet to buy a character and most of my stuff is free. It's easy to find free nudes or textures for purchased clothes. Its harder to find loose clothes meshes that are free. I am new and have been killing myself over the monthly challenge. It will have over 25 poser characters when finished and not a nude in the bunch. I can't churn out half a dozen pictures per night because I won't post crap, but I will post more works in poser. The way to change the gallery is to post good work. I have decent traning in 2D art and composition. I know a waterhouse from a warhol. Hopefully, if enough people post serious work it will make the others think. Another point is, my pro pack will arrive within the week. At that point I will produce a steady trickle of free clothing and characters on my soon to be new website. I will also sell on renderosity and when these items generate no sales they will become free. Hewey from silent running will be my first character. Followed by the robot from metropolis, an Elric type dragon lord, Dave Bowman from 2001, etc. Most of these characters are already done in Rhino and need to be exported as objects and boned using pro pack. I will provide the tools for people to produce other than nudes if they choose. Just hang on.

????? Next post it will be Hail Hitler???? Just because you dont like it you want to remove it?, who do you think you are?? Who said erotica cant be art?? ( pretending that you know what porn is , or erotica is , and those images are really ...porn.Btw whats the diference between porn and erotic?) Just because you like green , do you thinks thats a razon to ban all the other colors?? You should be more openminded and you should spend you time doing usefull things...instead starting things like this.. If you dont like ...dont look it... I hope i can pass de msg...my english isnt very good ...

derjimi ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 1:27 PM

Hold on, Dre4mer, nobody speaks of removing. But everybody who posts images should follow some simple rules which help that others are not going to be offended. As example, the rules say: "If this image contains nudity of any type, you must check the "Nudity" checkbox, or your image may be deleted." It would be much better if everybody would follow this simple rule. And another, which is part of the first, even when it's not written down: Couldn't it be possible to avoid this huge load of tits'n'asses on the thumbnails? When I browser the poser gallery thumbnails I sometimes feel like being on a porn website. Some are offended by this, and it is easily possible to avoid this. And everything's fine. You say: if you don't like - don't look it. tell me: how should I avoid looking if even the thumbnail is showing full frontal nudity? And missing the proper tag though. And now sit down for a minute, THINK and answer. I am looking forward to your response. Take care, Jimi

airflamesred ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 1:48 PM

Renderositys gallery obviously has no moderators, but having said that nudity often causes a many viewing, talent has nothing to do with it. Keep up your good work

Rochr ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 1:55 PM

Well, for most of us, a naked girl spreading her legs against a camera, while doing "stuff" with herself is in fact...Porn! There are a page called Renderotica where those kind of images are welcome. Sure, erotic pictures can certainly be artistic, if they are done tastefully and theres some effort behind the work! (Not those 2 minute renders...) But no, we dont have to look. And we dont want to either.

It can get a little discouraging when you spend days on an image, only to have it mostly ignored after posting it - because it's sandwiched between two thumbnails showing a nipple each. And of course those nipples each got a couple hundred views, and tons of comments. Feh. I'm all for deleting images which fail to follow the guidelines. I mean, if you posted drawings in the Bryce gallery, youd get them removed. And all it would take for Renderosity to get in trouble over this is some tight-minded parent spotting their kid looking at this horribly pornographic website. And whether or no the kid was contributing to it - he may have been uploading and looking at pictures of robots for all anyone knows - the parent is going to freak out either way. Something's gotta be done.

It is hoped that all such content be done in a manner that can be considered artistic and tasteful. You have been warned, please do not proceed if you feel that you may be offended I taked this from poser gallery... And derjimi i agree with you...there is a "adult content" in the bottom of the page. About nudity , im not ashame of mine..i have a daughter and when i am at home in the summer , i am like in the day i was born...yes...naked. ok....Lets work together.... What do you think , that should be the rules??? Lets cover all the girls faces ,titts and ass... and what about penis???..and if its erect??? cover it? start making rules like that , and you will never ending..or at the end this will be another Afeganisthan well, but maybe you are right...so far ,has i can see im the only one who think this way...maybe im the wrong guy here..

Dre4mer, please read my post again. Nobody want to ban nudity here totally. But people should be able to choose if they visit this site. When I browse the Poser gallery, some people SLAM their naked breasts and spread legs into my face with their thumbnails. Nudity is natural and ok. But everybody should be able to choose when he wants to look at and not be forced. And for second: do you think that a two minute render of a naked posette whith the camera directed at the genitalia is really fitting the purpose of this place? I don't think so. I like looking on a beautiful body - either men and women - very much. But there should be some standarts and not the wet dream of a fourteen year old kid who just downloaded poser and wants some quick images of tits and asses (sorry). Take care, Jimi

Peej ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 4:40 PM

I'd still like the ability to individually block specific members' stuff -- even thumbnails -- from appearing in the galleries. To me it is not just the porn issue, as many works are very beautiful and sensual -- in my opinion. There is a mass of non-pornish stuff I just do not want to bother with, mostly from people with an axe to grind about religion or politics or some pet cause or fetish or whatever. I do not want to have to deal with these images because -- to me -- they are a waste of time. I like to browse all the galleries, and it hard when they are cluttered with stuff that bores and/or annoys me. I do not support censorship. I support everyone's right to post what they want; I just want to be able to ignore them. We should each have our own private, confidential kill file.

Enforcer ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 4:47 PM

I usually don't way in on discussions like this, but here goes... Renderosity is a fantastic sight mostly because of the freedom of expression allowed. Yes, if nudity is present in the image, it should be labelled as such and the thumbs should not have nudity. But, I would rather be forced to take the bad with the good, then lose the good in an effort to keep out the bad. I do not endorse the two minute nude, but where does one draw the line. Composition time? Hand placement? Camera angle? Should we ban all nudity and place a fig leaf over every genital currently displayed in the renderosity gallery? The naked human form, either male or female, has been for millenia considered the epitomy of beauty. It is only a recent occurance in the grand scheme of things, that we have made to feel ashamed of our bodies. The true test of Poser software is the naked form. Those who are offended by the appearance of nudity in the gallery are offended only because the programmers and modellers got it so right. Your offense should be the highest compliment. Then again, just remember that everything you are looking at is a combination of ones and zeros. Why should you be offended by "00001101100011101000010111110101010010..." ?

LadyTieryn ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 5:04 PM

I myself love to make pictures with nudes, male and female. If they have time taken with them they can be truly beautiful artwork. I would hate to see all nudity deleted, but I would love to see either no nudity in thumbs or a new gallery especially for nudity. A gallery that you could turn off thumbs if you didn't want to see them. I try not to put any nudity in my thumbnails. It is just a curtisy to my fellow r'osity members. If I feel that the picture is not appropriate for this site I place it at Renderotica. Sometimes the clothed body can be just as erotic as the unclothed. The site of a woman in a long shirt, clinging to her body does it for me a lot more than any naked one ever has and the same for men, pants unziped just showing a slight trail of hair leading downward......
Anyways, that's my thoughts on the subject.

I just think everybody should be able to choose what they want to see.

LadyTieryn ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 5:21 PM

Forgot to put I also think that the mods should have the right to delete any thumbnails if they contain nudity and replace them with just the image name.

Peej ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 5:28 PM

Let me clarify something I said a couple of posts up: I'd like the ability to individually block specific members' stuff -- even thumbnails -- from appearing in the galleries THAT I SEE ON MY OWN COMPUTER. I DID NOT mean that anything should be deleted from the galleries as a whole. I'd like everyone to be able to tailor their own personal gallery presentation to show what they like and to omit the what they consider tedious or offensive.

tuttle ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 5:28 PM

Quote "Why should you be offended by "00001101100011101000010111110101010010... ?" I think you just called R2D2's mother a ho...

LadyTieryn ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 5:40 PM

Peej, I aggree with you, that's why I said "I would hate to see all nudity deleted, but I would love to see either no nudity in thumbs or a new gallery especially for nudity. A gallery that you could turn off thumbs if you didn't want to see them." But I do think that There shouldn't be any nudity in Thumbnails. I love to visit the galleries, but I can't sometimes because I know there will be nudity there and don't want my children exposed to that at there ages. Thus the suggestion of a gallery for nudes that you could turn of the thumbnails for and the mods being able to delete any thumbs that have nudity that weren't specificaly posted to that gallery.

tuttle ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 6:07 PM

LadyTieryn, - sorry, but I wouldn't like to see a special gallery for nudes. That idea is waaaay not good. That would mean that a great sci-fi scene (for example) that had a bit of flesh in it would get stuck in with all the 2-min Poser crap and get no recognition. If this rule was enforced I would be forced to post much of my stuff elsewhere. It causes more problems for the "real" artists than the BTB, who would likely love to have a whole gallery full of ass. What's wrong with just having a rule that says "ALWAYS use the nudity checkbox and NEVER post a thumb with nudity in it" - then enforcing that rule? Someone breaks the rule three times then they have their account deleted plus all their stuff. Easy to implement, easy to enforce. No more overt thumbnails (or should we call them ass-nails) and no more problem. :)))

LadyTieryn ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 6:17 PM

lol ass-nails I do like your idea. I would alo have to post most of my stuff elsewhere, because as I said I love to do nudes. Maybe they should be given a warning and told they need to modify the "ass-nail" or it would be deleted. Just so they couldn't come back and say they didn't know about the no nudity in thumbs rule and account deletion after the third time of not following the rule.

sermel ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 6:22 PM

This is a serious question as I have no idea as to the answer. How hard would it be to set up a preference setting that would not show nude thumbnails? Also a specific block from specific posters thing? If their is someone reading this thread with the necessary skills why not offer to set it up. Personally I don't care much one way or the other. A well done pic is well done and nudity is irrelevent. Also keep in mind that a lot of folks such as myself are quite new to computer gfx. Look at my turtle pic and you'll see I'm very much a neophyte but I'm happy with how its coming along but it has a long way to go. Yes I know what a lot of you are saying but I'm sure at least some of the pics being referred to are from people trying to learn the software. It would be a shame to discourage them. Back in mid '60's the art teacher made me keep working on ears and noses when everyone else went on to faces. Its only now I'm willing to have another go at releasing the visions inside. I'm 100% against any stifling of creativity, our schools do such a good job of that already. I'm going to end now before I go on and on haha.

LadyTieryn ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 6:22 PM

An additional nudes gallery would be nice though. Not that you had to post your nudes there, but for those who would like to. Like a pin-up gallery, since a lot of images are just that, pin-ups. A lot of them even say that in there discriptions or study of the male/female form.

Poppi ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 6:45 PM

actually, the picture you objected to, i liked. why? it wasn't a lesbo scene, or, yet, another "vicki in the temple". my gallery contains alot of nudes. why, 'cause the clothes for poser don't fit well, and, are mostly crappy. however, i do think they are tasteful. even the ones containing male and female figures. at least they took some time to pose, light, add props, create the characters, etc. as did the little demon kid, you did not like. what kills me, to the point that i am passing on the gallery night after night, is the onslaught of newcomers, average age 14 and counting, who post out of the box poser chicks engaged in some sort of sexual foreplay stuff. last sunday there were no less than 3 really crappy renders with hands stroking genitalia....and that is against the tos. period. i sent a message to a mod in the poser forum. got no reply, of course. our poser gallery has become a joke and, an embarrassment. i have not posted here, in a long, long time. however, the ptb don't care.....it has all become about money, and, ceased to really be about "art" Pop...Pop...Poppi!!!

electroglyph ( ) posted Sat, 27 July 2002 at 12:28 AM

I'm not saying that nudes are bad. But loading Vicki, setting the camera, and applying one of the preset pole dancer poses is not new or original. If you did the skin or the poses it might rate a gallery shot, but shot after shot when all you did was load presets is pretty lame. If I took the default poser guy in his green and brown clothes, went through the entire preset poses, and posted every picture you all would scream. I censor my own work. The walking mechanical basket with eyes I did for my child's 6th grade design a machine project in english was good enough to put on her paper. It is not good enough to post on poser. I try lots of things, including swapping out the buffy skin on the p4 woman and loading purple eyes. Most of it stays on my computer until I'm satisfied its good enough to post. I'm not saying get rid of nudes. If you can capture that seductive, "I'm trying to look like I'm not looking at you expression", a woman has just before she says yes I'd like to see it. Just don't capture it by loading it from the presets found in freestuff unless you did the woman or the presets. I would hate to see the poser gallery become the visual equivalent of Mamma's Karoke Cafe where 50 people post the latest creation with the identical pose sets.

I posted in a thread above about this. Still life artists know what beauty in the human form is and attempt to capture it. Kids who get poser and think its nothing more than an elaborate barbie doll program spoil it. Here's the only nude I have ever posted and I hope folks see the difference.

Vile how about using your nudity filter? it's there to filter out the "crap", I agree people who don't use the nudity tag should have that picture deleted, but I don't agree with filtering out artists or you'll miss out on some very well done pictures, but then anyone who does a nude picture is a pornographer right? Wrong! I don't like being told what sort of pictures to make, my tools will be used to make pictures I want to & as long as rosity doesn't ban nudes totally I will do nudes & post them here if I choose, just don't look at them if you don't like them. I have no problem with erotic Poser work, as long as it is done well, and so little of it is done well. Hell, very little of the non erotic Poser work is done well for that matter. Either way you're right Vile, there's way too much crap PERIOD in the Poser gallery. It is really becoming the favorite form of public maturbation lately. Nudity really isn't the problem, it's the lack of any other redeeming artistic value that troubles me.

of course telling someone their picture is crap is really going to help them improve isn't it? I thought this site was about helping people to improve their skills as much as showing off the art, seems I was wrong.

I thought this site was about helping people to improve their skills as much as showing off the art, seems I was wrong. Sadly, not everyone is born to be an artist. Poser is a fun program for so many...instant art in a box. twist a dial...and viola...you just made something worthy of posting in our gallery. and, so much of the poser culture is based upon spending money...i got the latest vicki skin, the newest helmet...and, the most expensive temple. so, if i post my vicki dead smack in the center of that 49.95 temple i bought, i don't have to worry about uncrossing her eyes. nope, i got friends here, who will give me 10's based on my cool poser toys. ya know what...that's OKAY!!! this site is primarily made up of hobbyists, these days, and the vendors who supply what makes them feel like "artists". i just wish i could learn enough to feel better about posting at a more "upscale" art site. for those of you who enjoy posting here, hats off to you. once upon a time, i loved to post here. Why is the Bryce forum discussing problems with the Poser gallery, let me ask? Is there a problem in the Bryce gallery? If you don't like one of the galleries, the obvious solution would be to ignore it or view it selectively. Personally, I hardly ever look in the Poser gallery.
