ok, due to some people having issues, I've pulled the files off the server until such time as I can correct a problem with them. As this requires me to have my main system up and running, I'm unable to give a date for their further availability at this time. My apologies for the inconvenience.

Penalty isn't applicable. I had already investigated that. The survey is still anonymous. However, I did say if I had three notes I would remove the data and correct that issue. I have three.

Thread: OT - Survey - What screen size do you use? ... ;=] ... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Bobasaur is correct. The pixel's he's referring to aren't the "classic" pixel, which is always square on computer screens under the standards they are set up (including your EGA example) under. Televisons, however, inclusive of HDTV, have a different standard that uses a rectangular pixel. In some situations, a computer creation will seem somewhat distorted on a televsion screen if the difference in pixel aspect isn't taken into account. Most video editing software adapts this as a default setting depending on the NTSC or PAL format.

no -- it's a different one he did a while back when he ran into the same problem, lol. It's in freestuff here, though I don't recall the name. I'll say just download all of his scripts and setthem up, lol -- he's got some absolutely amazing stuff for animation, and if you haven't really dug into his backlist, you are missing out majorly. He's also got a nifty music script that would allow you to do something similar to the animusic videos. The only other wish I have is that they create a shader SDK or open up the shaders to development (unikely, but would be cool).

The disaster would be in userbase acceptance in a newly competitive environment, especially now that the low end is taken up entirely by that competitor. Note that Poser Artist and similar versions aren't a viable option any longer. The majority of consumers, when given an option between a price outside their range and a lower price at the top of it will generally choose too simply not do either. It's silly, and no, it doesn't make sense, but that's the funky truth of it. So it would significantly impact the growth of the market, which is more important by far. actually, I do expect support for the multi-core systems as soon as a common standard is developed that works equally well between the two competing standards there (Intel and AMD are, um, sorta having an issue there). I also expect renderfarm and multiprocessor use (with, hopefully, the 3GB switch) no later than 8. Given they've been working on P7 since the release of P6 (and to some extent earlier), its possible, but if they have an 18 to 24 month cycle (which is the norm for EF) then they'll be sorely pressed to achieve much of a huge rewrite there. I expressed myself poorly, re: timeline. When I'm animating, often 'm interested in adjusting several parts at once -- the default system in poser is a single timeline that you have to switch between the various dials on that part for, then change to another bodypart. Mulitple ones would allow me to make changes across a wider range of bodyparts, essentially allowing for greater control. Ockham has a python script that allows this already, and it is incredibly useful when doing those fine tune motions like hair or jiggle or that funky behavior of the hip when a person stops.

THe 64 bit revolution still hasn't reached the critical mass of installed users to validate it. There would need to be 2 versions of the application still, in order to retain marketshare -- 32 and 64. Which means double the work. Possible, but I seriously -- as in, So seriously I'd put money on it -- doubt it will be in Poser 7. Perhaps 9, if they have shifted to an 18 to 24 month cycle, or 8 is they work on a 30 to 36 month schedule. It will most certainly happen, of that I have no doubt. I just think that getting one's hopes raised for it in the version to come next may be a bit of a stretch. A "lite" version of a program that retails for 250 in one version and jumps to 500 in the next is a recipie for disaster, especially in this particular case. My wishlist for Poser 6 is pretty simple and realistic: 1 - Improvements to the animation toolset such as: -- multiple timeline windows -- improved keyframing -- greater codec support 2 - Improved jp adjustment tools -- I dislike having to try and grasp a circle with my mouse -- it should be readily available. 3 - additional deformers 4 - Pretty figures 5 - Additional IK tools 6 - A larger python palette and expanded python interactions with the material and cloth rooms And, for my unrealistic ones: 7 - generic rigs for bipeds, quadrupeds, and hexapods. 8 - additional low level mesh adjustment tools.

Thanks, Jules -- I don't have them so I wasn't sure. I know about the AM work and the coming or here Koji stuff, but wasn't certain if they were out or not.

That's not poser doing that -- poser doesn't reduce polycount. That's either the engine hitting the poly cieling it has per figure (Poser figures are way too high res for use in most games)or some other program in use.

"Lose the salary and age questions." Follow up survey has them as optional. I'm very disinclined to use the ip data (saved automatically as part of the system I used previously) for a key, but I don't know enough about how to alter it or set it up differently, and I had already delayed the results three times, so finally caved in order to not appear to have been "holding back". Despite the occasional attempt at inferring commercial/sinister/whatever motives to this (and there's valid reasons for all such inferences), I'm really more interested in getting the information out and available to anyone who wants to use it. If I get two more requests, I will pull the survey data again for a short time and find a way to rekey it all. Thanks :D ********* The access db will only have the data, and, to be frank, the reason it's not released as of yet is that I can't get into my main system to set it up, and the computer I'm using doesn't have enough power/space to load office onto. Basically, I'm stuck -- I'm really not personally able at this time to do much at all with this stuff. Sorta frustrating, lol. I've been using openoffice.org to set the data up in spreadsheet format myself, and while it's not bad at all, it's slow going as I'm learning that the methods I'm used to using to generate charts and graphs are not the same, lol. That said, I will note that Calc does a pretty decent job for free spreadsheet!

Actually, I didn't set up the IP's as the key, but it was my error that allowed such to happen (I didn't say to generate a new key for the results, which was my bad). Fortunately, the next survey won't be limited in such a manner (which is nice -- I'm loving this new software and am considering doing the next survey in April). The database format I'll be releasing it in once I have access to my main system will be access format for this one. After this, the survey data will be released in MySQL formatted CSV, since this new system can export such. Probably would help if I had a better grip on database stuff, but it requires a bit of a different kind of insanity...

It's not the plys themselves -- it's that they are poking through. There's two polys facing each other there, and a sort of "box" made by them into which no light can get, so it comes out as a fully shadowed area.

I'm aware of that Tunesy. And that's factored into the survey. It's factored into any survey that is meant to cover a particular group. Although I'm ill equipped to explain it in detail, basically, each person's answer is effectively good for 3 or more people depending on several other factors (such as the population sample being looked at). By compiling several statistical results over a space of time, you slowly increase the accuracy level of the survey and require a smaller sample of the population in order to achieve an accurate portrayal. So not filling out a survey doesn't skew the results -- it's only the completed ones that actually skew it. From there, algorithms based on comparative areas or developed specifically to that grouping can be used, increasing the overall accuracy. For my personal analysis, I use a series developed from Software upgrade survey's done between 1991 and 2003. Once again -- it comes down to whether or not ya trust the source. If you don't trust the data, then ignore it. If you do, then use it. I trust the data. Its good stuff, and very useful, and while I'm surprised at a lot of the things that I'm pulling out of it (for example, the age-spending-fave figures info) it also still fits in with what I've observed within the community overall. but, above and beyond everything else: this is fun. I enjoy it -- all the business stuff aside, it's really cool jsut to see the info :D Gives us a better picture of the sort of community we are -- and it's a grand one :D
