Add in fervent thanks from me to PhilC also! But let us not forget Krystalmoon for her very, very quick work in creating textures for the set - both the very useful neutral tex/bumpmaps she put in freestuff and the black-and-gold set she made available on PhilC's site. Thank you so much! April Follies

When you *are* ready to tackle making something poseable, Little Dragon has recently compiled a nice "short list" of tutorials on the subject, to be found in the link below. April FolliesThread: Looking For A Loincloth | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

I'd like to hear the moderators' opinions. I have a set of 3 "Peace T-shirt textures for P4W" ready, just to provide a counterpoint-download; as Phantast says, it's not that difficult. HOWEVER, I've hesitated to upload it for the very reasons Phantast and casamerica describe. I want to be a "good guest" at Renderosity, and save expressions of my vehement opinions for those places where it's considered appropriate. I also want to express my admiration to the folks at Renderosity for appreciating that politics-through-art is acceptable, and even creating a genre category for it. Given the venerable history of such expression, I always have found the assertion that art should stay "away from all that" faintly ludicrous. But the Renderosity understanding of this principle has redoubled my desire not to abuse that understanding - as I said, to be a "good guest". And finally, 'cause I just can't resist a snarky comment: Is it just me, or is using an artistic website to make a political point - slamming actors for making political points - kinda... contradictory? Ironic, even? April Follies

That's wonderful! I'd dearly love to play with such an application! And I'm also impressed by the modeling ability shown in your morphs. April Follies

Do a search for Jim Burton, specifically his "Night Life Shoe pack." Those are really classy shoes, in my opinion, and for V2, and they come with MAT poses for several color variations. There's a freebie around somewhere (here?) that has a pack of additional textures for them, too. April Follies

There's an alternative if you can't buy the V2-V3 converter, though the method only allows you to use V2 textures on V3. Still, it sounds like that's what you have in mind in this instance, so maybe it will help. Basically, you have to use the free UVmapper utility to "re-map" a copy of V3, and that copy will then take V2 textures, but V3's morphs and clothing! A tutorial for it is available at the link given. April FolliesThread: Something New | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You may want to postwork the hair on the older figure - Crash has a good tutorial in the Renderosity tutorials section., using Photoshop. Now, the appearance of the uniformed figures as "reflections" in the memorial is a bit challenging, but not too bad. How exactly you do it would depend in part whether you have Poser 4 or Poser 5. If you have Poser 5, I'd first render a shot of the soldiers over a plain white background. Output the image in your preferred formet - I've had decent luck with .jpg, but there may be better. Then when you're setting up the "full" image, go to the Material Room and select the object you're using for the Memorial. Right-click in the main window, and select "New node" and "Math". Set the Math node to "Add" and plug it into "Diffuse color" and "Specular color" of the main node. Set the background colors of both "value1" and "value2" to white. Now do "New node" two more times, both times selecting "2D" and "image map". Set the first image-map node to your image of the Memorial surface. Plug this into "value1" of the Math node. Be sure to set "Texture Strength" to 2 so you get the full quality. Set the second image map to the image of the soldiers you produced, and plug it into "value2". Fiddle with the texture strength until the "ghost" image superposed on the Memorial looks right. Alternately, of course, you can use your soldier-render as one Photoshop layer, and superpose it on the image of the Memorial in another layer. Fiddle with it until it's aligned well against the Memorial, then slide the opacity downward until it looks like a reflection/inset image. Then flatten the resulting image and use it as a texture on your Memorial-object in Poser. Hope this is helpful. It's an image well worth aspiring to. April Follies

Thread: DAZ Poser 5 Information In Error | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hmm. Maybe there's some intermittent P5 glitch, then... I just tried the DAZ version out using P5, and Vicki's not changing expression one bit. I can copy the poses from the clipboard into Notepad, but Edit->Paste in Poser doesn't do it. Wonder why it works on yours but not mine... April Follies
Thread: Recent War Protest Postings in the Gallery | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
As those who've read my Gallery comments know, I'm very sympathetic to the anti-war cause, and not slow to express it here on Renderosity. HOWEVER, there are better and worse ways to do that. My somewhat long-preachy responses to a few images may be pushing the edge, but they're technically well within the ToS. :) Original art, political cartoons, etc. are all great ways to do this. But I think that this repeated-image technique will actually not get the point across well. The signatures are not accumulating, but are spread out among a dozen images. Thus, you don't show widespread support. The image's re-posting ad nauseum will irritate some people - and some will carry that irritation over toward the cause so espoused. If everyone who supports that cause posts their own original anti-war picture, THAT will be a powerful movement, all right. I'd recommend that in the strongest possible terms - after all, this site is for people to express themselves through art, right? If you want to do petitions, go to moveon.org or True Majority (US) or one of the worldwide anti-war petitions. April Follies

Thanks, all! Dialyn, thanks especially for that idea of "modular" clothing... I'm now giving it some thought. :) On EDW's clothes... fark. I coulda sworn I saw them in the Rendo Freestuff too, but... anyhow, I know they're in PoserPros "Free Stuff Club" forum, and can be picked up there.
