BT: a special thanks for your painstaking explanation. I'm going to try the things you suggested this weekend! April Follies
Thread: First conformer, be gentle... advice, please? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thank you, thank you all for your advice! You're wonderful folks. :) @bryce: oooh, morphs. That was gonna be my next thing to learn... :) @tcsp: Thanks! And thanks for the links! I didn't try exporting Vicki-bits because (a) I was worried that there might be copyright issues about using her mesh like that, and (b) they came unwelded the one time I tried it. ;) @bloodsong: oooh, love your work. And thanks lots for the tut link! The eternally grateful, April Follies
Thread: clothing for all Victoria models | Forum: The MarketPlace Wishing Well
EDW has a nice dress, pants, shirt, and sandal set in freestuff here. What would be in most people's budgets, and, well, how good does it have to be? I'm new to this whole clothing modeling thing, and trying to decide at what point I can consider a piece "saleworthy". I might take a stab at some everyday clothing, and would price it low, but... in true you-get-what-you-pay-for tradition, it may not be very sophisticated, modeling-wise. I can get them to the point where it conforms decently and no skin peeks out, but I'm not so sure about, e.g., the clothing looking good for very "bendy" poses. Making anything morphable would take a lot longer, too. :) On the off-chance I might try some of this (and I promise nothing, and definitely no time frame) what do YOU think would be fair for a $5 set of clothing? Sweater, knee-length skirt, and shoes, no morphs? How high resolution? (Given that V3 tends to be pretty hi-rez herself, it seems a waste to put her in blocky clothes.) More to the point, though, what are the standards for "good enough" that you'd want to buy something for a $5 set? What are the criteria? April Follies
Thread: Is posette in P5? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
P5 has Posette, under "Poser 1-4" in Figures. Thusly it will indeed work in P5, at least on Posette. Haven't checked out the Posette-Judy clothing interchangeability. April Follies

Hey, the idea that anyone would ask ME questions flatters me extraordinarily. :) Seriously, I was worried about the one-side, two-side polygon thing, so... I cheated. I created a cylinder in Poser, used the group editor to group just the sides, not the end faces, and exported it as "cylinder_surface.obj". Then I imported the surface to Wings and played around with it from there on out. Good for dynamic clothing, too. :) Tellya what, though, the first time through, trying to start with a cylinder in Wings, I kept getting vertices on the inside of the garment, which of course played merry hades with my attempts to modify it. I do believe my husband was concerned about all the vicious snarling he heard from my corner. :) April Follies

You know, language is also a medium for art. "Bite me, bobo." "... split beaver babes..." "...their shwinkie hanging out..." Obviously, Minuteman's artistry in the medium of language leaves something to be desired by the literary critic. The rather extreme irony of art criticism coming from someone whose sole contribution to the forum is a rather juvenile attempt to start an argument by insulting as many people as possible rather takes me aback. I mean, to see snobbery attempted by someone who is in the process of displaying his own "shwinkie" for all to see has got to be a new level in chutzpah. Minuteman... I salute you. With my shwinkie. Will the V3 clothes fit GV also, or do you have to get both sets to fit both models? April Follies
Thread: Do you use poser's tools? If so, which one's your default? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I use the Move tool more than either Twist or Rotate, mostly because its a lot trickier to control just what axis something is moving around with Twist or Rotate. With Move, you're moving it in the plane of the screen, so what you see is what you get. :) Dials, however, are my first choice in most situations. April Follies

Also back on the original question! In Renderosity's Free Stuff, there is a V3 "seam guide" for both head and body. If you use this in something like Photoshop (or GIMP), you can create all the makup textures you like. First create a "skin texture" following the seam guide - there are several tutorials on how to do this; essentially fiddle till you find a good skin color, noisify it, and then add highlighs and shadows - then create your custom makeup on top of it. Complicated, but totally legal to re-distribute for free or pay! (Though it would be awful nice to kick back at least a copy of the item to those who put the seam guide in freestuff in the first place.) I seem to recall seeing a "base skin texture" in freestuff as well, but I'm not sure whether it was for V3, or what re-distribution conditions were set on it. April Follies
Thread: I need a recommendation for V2 makeup maps | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It's in the freestuff here for Renderosity. Search for "MaybeLee". It's made for Photoshop, but if you have no Photoshop and no money - a condition with which I'm familiar - the free GIMP program can, I've found, read the Photoshop file. You'll have to fix up the layers a bit with GIMP - at least, I did - but after that, it works delightfully. April Follies
Thread: How would you like your morphs? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Option A will prolly work best in the long run, despite being Yet More Channels To Search Through. I second the call for the "full-face smile" (and frown) suggested above, and also second the "eyebrow shape changes" suggestion. Smoothing out the philtrum area has given me twitches, so a morph to do that easily would be sweet. April Follies

I've had the same reactions when looking at my old poetry. It tends to fall into three categories: 1. What was I THINKING??? I don't drink, so I couldn't have been drunk... let's slip that back in the folder and pretend this never happened. 2. Hm. That one has possibilities. With some rewriting and polishing, it might look a lot better. 3. Hey, I'd forgotten about this one, it's pretty cool! Why don't I start tinkering with meter on this one again... man, I haven't written anything like this for a long time. Admittedly, most of 'em fall in category number 1. That's life for ya. As we progress, our earlier efforts look, well, early. But I don't think we should be ashamed of our early efforts! Yes, we shouldn't delude ourselves into thinking them Great Art, but neither should we slam ourseves by comparison with more practiced artists - including ourselves, years later. :) By exhibiting and getting feedback we improve tremendously, after all. My dad always said, when plunging me into advanced chess tournaments, "You don't learn anything from the games you win. You learn a lot from losing to someone better." Hard on the ego, but still a good philosophy. April Follies
Thread: A little help with some poser concepts. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I may be able to help with the makeup, at least. Go to the "Pose" directory in Poser. Find the one that says !MAT V3 Maps and apply one of the full-body maps (in mine, they're the first two thumbnails) you find in that directory. The makeup maps tend only to work in conjunction with one of the full-body maps ("universal texture", "high-res texture", etc.) Once you've done that, though, you can apply the skintones and makeup maps on top of them with no trouble.
