I'm not up for a brain transplant quite yet, although there are days when a change to something random might have a good chance of being an improvement. I was thinking more of a .mc6 file brain transplant-- or at least a file hack. Would it be possible to do something like finding all of the lines in the .mc6 file that start with "transparencyMAP," and just simply deleting those lines?
(If so, it might be a fun project to create a couple of Python scripts that would save the current material to the current library as either a texture-only file or a transparency-only file.)
Thread: Making Materials Files More Specific | Forum: Poser 12
That is just about what I wound up doing. There were only two transparency maps and six texture maps. So I just did the manual loading of the map files, and created twelve mc6 files to cover all the combinations.
What I had hoped for was to create two mc6 files that would change the transparency without affecting the texture, and then six mc6 files that would change the texture without changing the the transparency. Apparently this is not possible from within Poser.
In the process of researching this topic, I found a web site with a lot of tutorials. It is at https://www.foro3d.com/f337/tutoriales-para-poser-54225.html. The web site is in Spanish, but the tutorials are in English. Good English. One of the tutorials is about "Understanding Poser File with Material Settings." I have downloaded that, and I will try studying it to see if it stimulates any ideas.

RedPhanton, that was it! This newbie had the single checkmark and the double checkmark mixed up. I did fix the double-click in the Preferences, as you suggested.
Many thanks!

I had learned from the video what the Right Shin: -x to +x did. But I did not know what the Andy2: Right to Left did. Maybe I should have guessed, but your help was right on target-- and its got me where I wanted to go. It's working great now.
With the help from this forum, I am gradually making some progress. Many thanks.
Thread: Saving Character(s) for Re-Use | Forum: New Poser Users Help
Thanks. I've been using hborre's method for works in progress, but I needed something for finished  characters. RePhantom and Nerd had the idea that worked for me in those cases.
Thanks to all of you!

RedPhantom, that sent me in the right direction. I had to look up in the documentation to figure out how to save, but I got it to work.
Nerd, that idea of a separate runtime feels like a very good one. I did it.
Thanks to both of you, I'm making some progress.
Thread: Applying Textures | Forum: New Poser Users Help
OK! Thanks to both of you. You sure got me on the right track!
The process I used in the Material Room was as follows:
1. Select the body part. That brings up the little "Color_Texture" window.
2. Click on the value for the Image Source. That brings up the "Texture Manager" window.
3. Click on the "Browse" button. That brings up the file selection window.
4. Browse through the files until I found the texture I wanted. Double click on that.
5. Click on OK, and the new texture is applied.
It's a little tedious to fro this for each of about a dozen parts, but it works!
Many thanks!

OK. Materials Room seems appropriate, but it is totally new territory for me.
I have a private Runtime called "Vic 4" for all my Victoria 4 related stuff. The customized textures are in the Textures folder in that Runtime. However, when I get to the Materials Room, with my modified Victoria 4 figure selected, there don't seem to be any Materials as bobbesch so helpfully suggested.Â
How do I find the textures that I want?
Thread: How about a Renderosity users convention? | Forum: Community Center
A few years ago, KateTheShrew and then Carolly Hauksdottir hosted afternoon parties in the San Francisco Bay Area. My reaction was that, no, no one looked as I had imagined. And, yes, they were even more interesting and fun in person than I had imagined. Extrapolating my experience at these parties, I think a convention would be a great idea. I'm sure that it would be successful enough that it would be repeated a year or two later. Maybe it could be near Curious Labs one time, and near Renderosity another time-- or something like that to at least cover North America. - Jim
Thread: Vic 4 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The basic problem for us on the hobby end of Poser is that there are too many characters who each want their own wardrobe. I used to be active with Poser, and I even tried V1, V2 and Steph; there were a few nice new clothes, but not much more that was compelling. Once Sara, PT, V3, S3 (not to mention non-DAZ characters like LaRoo, et. al.) came along, each requiring a significant investment in clothing, poses, etc., I gave up. I can't even keep the libraries straight. The proliferation of incompatible characters has driven me out of Poser activity. I still watch. I am still kind of interested. But I'm not as active as I used to be. Sigh.......

Laetia has a tutorial for making MAT files, starting with a CR2 file. I posted a utility in Free Stuff to automate her process; it will work if you are on a Mac.Thread: MAT Poses | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If you are on a Mac, and you are starting with a .cr2 file, then you might try MATconverter. It's available in Free Stuff.

Hooray! You and I may be the last two Posette fans on earth. For full body poses, I thnk she still performs better than Vicky or even Stephanie. - JimX
