maclean, that's rough! Like I said, I really didn't want to think it was SP4, but I couldn't come up with anything else (until I remembered that other stupid thing I installed, which works great, aside from breaking everything). But I completely understand your reluctance to try new service packs. It took a long time to get me to try SP1, and then SP2, and now, SP4. Notice I never mentioned SP3, because I skipped it entirely (and with good reason, I think). 2k has been good to me thus far, at least.

A quick a dirty bump map can be made by saving your existing texture as a greyscale image, then apply it as the bump. I imagine the "pros" also adjust levels when they do that, but I could be mistaken.

It appears I was wrong. I had a feeling this would be the case, but a demo I installed for a program looks as though it was incredibly intrusive and was making everything...stupid. So after removing it, doing some registry fixing/hacking, and other assorted things, we're back to good. My apologies, SP4. You don't suck. Yet. And again, thanks to those of you who replied, and those who looked and dindn't know what to say. ;)

It appears it won't work now when my network connection is active, and seeing as how I have DSL that's always on, that's bad. My firewall doesn't appear to be stopping it from doing whatever it's trying to do. Ugh. May be time to install another firewall. Grrr.... Thanks for the ideas folks, this has gotten me onto the right track. I hope.

An addendum, since I realized I didn't describe what it does at all. Or more accurately, what it doesn't do. Running the program (both of them) now results in it hanging before it's ever loaded (it freezes at the splash screen, basically). Never happened before, and was working just fine yesterday before I installed SP4.

Graphires are good, if a little small. I have a 6"x8" Intuos I got some time back for $150. How? Someone was selling it on Amazon's auctions. It doesn't even look used and it works perfectly, even after a cat left a hairball on it. :/
So, on top of ebay, check out Amazon's auctions. Never know what you'll find. :)

Wow, looks promising. Some of the renders look very good, too. I'm just a little taken aback at the render times. Yes, I'm impatient when it comes to rendering. If I wasn't, I'd be rendering in Bryce. However, it's an alpha, so I'm not casting my judgment, just pointing out the obvious (for the time being only, I hope). :)

Try this thread. Post 8 would be a good one to look at on it. If you don't want FBMs, just select individual morphs instead. There's other Tailor threads around as well but that's the only one I know of off hand. Hope it helps.Thread: The sims and software? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Sparrowheart, no. That's EA's "we don't officially support this" junk. Works fine. I just hope if you get it that you stick to it longer. I can only stomach the game for about 2 or 3 days (admittedly, it's 2 or 3 days of feverish, almost non-stop playing) before I'm bored of it. Very repetetive, unfortunately, but a hell of a good time until you reach the breaking point. On a side note, for those of you hating popups on the various sites, consider getting mozilla (or phoenix) (mozilla.org). Great free browser, far, far fewer security holes/problems than IE, built-in popup blocking, etc. I love it! And if you've never used tabbed browsing, you don't know what you're missing. :)

Refer to post 8 in this thread. You'll obviously have to change things a little if you're not doing FBM morphs, but it squared me away.Otherwise, as igohigh said. Morph your character, save it to the library, open that one up in Tailor, load the clothing, transfer the morphs, save the new clothing, tada. :)
Thread: DDRAM PC 400 or RDRAM | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If your system uses DDR333, getting DDR400 won't do any good, UNLESS you get RAM that can handle low latencies. And then you'll be playing with a lot of settings in bios to try and customize everything to get every ounce of power you can out of it. That's stuff that's normally reserved for the overclockers/enthusiasts. It can get ugly since there's so many brands and they all perform differently. DDR vs RDRAM is a no-contest. RDRAM has almost zero support (in the mainstream) since Intel changed everything to DDR. I'd rather get a new motherboard, cpu, and ram than buy more RDRAM. The 800 mhz fsb P4s are nice, very nice. This coming from an Athlon owner.
Thread: Who has an art background and who is all digital? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm a writer first, everything else second. Drawing people is near impossible, but I can sort of do architectural stuff. I'm all digital, regardless.
Thread: Does Poser 5 support dual monitors ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm throwing my support in for an ATI card since everyone seems to love nvidia (I love my Radeon 9800 Pro!). Most any ATI card these days supports dual monitors, and there's several in the ~$100 range that are very good cards.
A tip for those of you who use dual monitors AND play games (ignore this if you don't): set your primary monitor (1) on the right (yes right) of your secondary monitor (so the setup screen looks like "2 1" (look at Phil's picture above). The reason? When you play games, it tries to switch the resolutions and it'll crash games and force you to play in windowed mode because the second monitor doesn't want to play nice (stupid Windows feature). However, when the secondary monitor is on the left, it's not affected by the resolution changes, so everything works normally. Odd, no? (Don't forget to reboot after changing them. Logging out doesn't work, gotta reboot.)
And yes, I realize it can be a bit weird having their orders reversed. I have mine that way, and my primary monitor is physically on the left, while the secondary is physically on the right. So to drag something to the second monitor, I drag left, even though it's right. You get used to it. :) Now, I just need to get another LCD so my monitors can be set to the same resolution. :(

Neato! Been needing another dress for a pic, but didn't feel like making my own textures. Thanks!
