The poser primitives may not be hi-res enough to do that. Not enough mesh to support a smooth bend.
Play with the magnets a bit and you'll see what I mean.

The reason the thumbnails appear that way is because whoever created then left out the alpha channel.
If there are no RSRs to reconvert from, open the PNG in an editor and select the image.
Save that selection as a channel and resave the PNG.
PP will then display the full image.
If it still doesn't appear correctly then invert the alpha channel and save again.
Poser 4 uses native RSR images, Pro Pack and Poser 5 use PNGs and convert RSR's to PNG format.

Is this a thumbnail that you created or was it from someone else?
If the item came with RSR's and PNGs, delete the PNGs and let PP rebuild the PNGS from the RSRs.

Save your scene files before rendering. The when it bogs down close the app and let the memory empty.
Restart, load your scene and render again.

Yes the only things that matter are the group names and the order of hierarchy parenting.
The place where a model bends can be moved around with JP's.

If your poser 4 is located under MetaCreations then you'll probably need to locate poser.exe there when loading the pro pack addon.
The curiouslabs folder is an empty one that was put there by a product installer most likely.
If your main poser program is the original MetaCreations then install to poser 4 folder under there.
