Thread: Wow! Exploring P5 with the manual really is an adventure!!!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Good feedback, thank you. BTW, we are working with a large number of artists within the community to bring forward a variety of tutorials. These should be starting to appear over the next few weeks. A good first example would be PhilC's excellent tutorial that accompanies his belly dancer outfit. Steve Cooper
Thread: P5 won't render big - arrgh | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Unfortunately this issue is related to the Poser 4 renderer and the format on which it was based, when it was created on a Mac many years ago. The original Poser renderer is tightly wrapped around using the Macintosh PICT format. PICT files have a dimensional limit of 4096 pixels in either direction. Try an experiment in Photoshop by creating a PICT file larger than 4092 (a 2 pixel buffer on each side). It can't be done, even on Windows. The inherent relationship on PICT for the original Poser renderer is another reason for the new P5 Firefly renderer. Firefly has no inherent pixel limits.

Its dead wrong to go after beta testers. The state of Poser 5 is borne by us. We take responsibility for that. That's why we have a patch due out on the 30th of this month. And as needed, subsequent patches will be released.
There isn't a single beta tester responsible for the final state of Poser 5. They are all volunteers. Not "insiders". No special deals. They are skilled or professional users of Poser from this and other communities, they are artists that can push the features deeply, or just good solid communicators that can verbalize and document the sometimes twisty steps that allow us to re-produce a bug. They were logged on to our beta forum with their real names, and many met each other for the first time using those real world names, even though they had been communicating for years in the public forums under screen names.
A little detail about the beta process at Curious Labs-
We had over 80 independent testers working outside Curious Labs, contributing to bug threads, category by category on an internal testing forum hosted on our server. The beta testers sign non disclosure agreements (NDAs) which bind them before and after the test process. These NDAs restrict them from discussing the process and the beta versions of the application, during and after the testing process. The only reward that the testers receive is a copy of the shipping version of P5.
The job of testing is a challenging one at best. The application is in a rough state. There is very little final documentation; there isn't anyone to hold hands with the testers. They have to rely upon a lot of personal ingenuity to go through an application as deep as Poser 5. Some testers wrote up dozens of bugs. Others found one or two. I assure you, the testers did not specifically see or report the crash issues that have been chronicled here. If we had seen these, they would have been addressed prior to shipping. Many of the testers reading this know first hand how the beta crash bugs that they found were taken very seriously by our engineering and QA team. For the most part the beta testers were all looking for those killer bugs. Some testers found a lot during the beta. And thats how the bugs get fixed. Unfortunately, there is no a perfect system, and some bugs simply dont turn up until the product hits the real world of users.
The best thing we can do at this point is to take responsibility, and deliver timely fixes to the problems.
Thread: Who actually owns Don and Judy and what is the position on derived products? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Now that's an offer! Nothing like long tap pipe, thick headed Guiness. I may be in the UK in a few weeks, and may end up in Dublin. If so, lunch or drinks are on me... Kupa

Storm, That's a difficult question to answer. Remember the various statements and position on the hands of the Amy character? While it didn't create significant issues for us at CL, it became an issue elsewhere. This is potentially turning into a conversation that would best be dealt with in email or by phone. Feel free to send me a post. I'm in the midst of a weeklong summit and have very limited time this week, so likely would want to schedule some time next week to talk to you. Thanks, Steve Cooper

Storm, The same rights you have with the licensed meshes in Poser 4 exists with Don and Judy in Poser 5. The license agreement is between Metacreations and their successor (Curious Labs) and Zygote and their successor (DAZ). It's wouldn't be appropriate for me to disclose the full detail of license. But the license does specifcally allow users to create derivatives. Bottomline, none of the licensing of this content has changed, and as such you are able to use and distribute the content the same way you were in Poser 4. Steve Cooper
Thread: Poser 5 - Earth to Curious Labs: what happened to the beta-testing? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
We are working on a patch to correct both application and content issues. Like Pro Pack, we will produce regular updates as needed. This first patch will be available within the next week and change. I don't have an exact date, sorry about that. Our beta program was an involved process with many diverse users and internal testing as well. We have a large external tester base to expose the code to various hardware set-ups and users with various Poser interests; unfortunately some bugs don't show up until the application is used in the large user base. Rob, I don't have a solid date for you, sorry about that. We're sending bulk inventory overseas from here in the US. It has to pass through customs, then into the hands of our Irish fulfillment facility, then off to you. The inventory was sent out to Ireland last week, so it's bound ot be arriving soon. Certainly no later than any of the published dates. I'm looking forward to you getting into the program. Kupa

jjsemp, That's a bummer about the eyes. They should be blinking. Is that the case in all versions of Don? How about Judy? Kupa

I hadn't put it as eloquently, but it's how we've been viewing things these last few days.

Jeff, They only show up in the various dialogs where units are entered or controlled. translation channels are an example. Geep's idea is pretty clever for a reference system.
