I saw the option but wasn't sure how 'powerful' or 'performance expensive' it was.
The choices available are quite bewildering and it's difficult to judge what gives you the best bang for your buck.
I'll give it a try. Thanks for your help.

Thread: Bryce falling behind......... | Forum: Bryce
I'm sorry to say that my faith is starting to falter. Bringing Bryce up to par with the competition which no doubt will require buckets of new code just seems too big a task when you think how long Studio took to come out and become a v1.0 product. The instability of the 5.5 release and DAZ Studio also bothers me too. Selling it at $99, I'm not sure they can afford to put the resources and time into such a big project. Like the software maxim states, on time, good quality and features, but you can only have two of them. My early experiences of 5.5 suggests I only got one of them.
Thread: Incompatible figures error in 5 Pro Trial Edition | Forum: Carrara
Hi Mark, The scene files are ones I've used elsewhere in DAZ Studio Bryce 5.5 and Vue Esprit, seemingly without a problem, well OK, that's a slight exaggeration, Vue crashes so often, how would I tell? :-( I used File -> Import off the menus, and then selected the PZ3 file. I don't recall using a special tool or interface so I guess that means I didn't use Transposer. The figure appears to have a stick figure like skeleton within it and I've managed to pose the figures using it, albeit rather awkwardly since Carrara seems quite unresponsive when working with the figure. Save and load times for the .CAR file are glacial with the scene, I don't know if that's indicative of another problem.

I'm using File->Import and selecting the file if that answers the first question. The figure comes from Poser 4 Artist. Am I right in thinking dynamic hair is Poser 5 and above?
Thread: Carrara 5 Pro or Standard? | Forum: Carrara
Thanks for the info. I recently took advantage of the DAZ promotion and bought Hexagon and I've been quite impressed. It got me thinking about Carrara.

I was out cycling near Basingstoke today and you could see a plume on the horizon. This fire must be huge.
Thread: Shadows help? | Forum: Bryce
My understanding was that turning off sun/moon shadows also turned off shadows from other sorts of lights, at least that's been my experience.
Thread: ot microsoft is giving away software. | Forum: Bryce
The technology has changed dramatically between VB5/6 and Visual Studio .NET. C++ has changed too but still recognisable. Unfortunately it would take far longer than a post to talk about how they've changed. You'd be best advised to go to www.gotdotnet.com or msdn.microsoft.com to find whitepapers and articles about what has changed.

There's a full break down on the Visual Studio site. http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/products/compare/ Feature cuts include code coverage, source control, remote debugging, mobile application development, unit testing, server administration, or support for MS Office. Bizarrely, even the "Professional" edition doesn't come with source control or unit testing either, giving a whole new definition of the term, professional software development.

There are no limitations in terms of use or commercial development as this FAQ explains, specifically question 4: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/faq/ Of course being free means they took out a bunch of stuff that professional developers would want...

Woo hoo, person of a certain age!!! Loved that album, the beginning of their post synthesiser era.
Thread: Unable to open old scene | Forum: Vue
Eeekk!!! I think I can do that, but I've found the Poser update feature I rich mine of application crashes and lost data. Still, got nothing to lose by trying. Thanks!

All useful suggestions - thank you
Not so worried about free, you get what you pay for.
Just want something reliable, straight forward and cost effective, don't mind rewarding people for building good product.
