It's the program, mainly. Poser is a resource hog. You will find it to be less of a problem if you install more RAM.

It happens on my system sometimes, too. I have 1 GB of RAM, a 40 GB and a 20 GB HD. If you're running any other apps, close them. You also may find it will render if you save your work, shut down Poser and start it up again. Which OS are you using? 95/98 have memory fragmentation issues. XP, NT and it's derivatives don't suffer from this problem.

Other examples of "Steampunk" are "The Difference Engine" by Gibson and Sterling and the Luther Arkwright graphic novels by Bryan Talbot. Completely agree that there should be more of this kind of thing around.

Thanks for the replies, people. You're right about the sunken cheeks, although he wasn't a full-blown (or is that snorted?) cokehead at that time, so he wasn't as corpse-like as he became in 1976. I'll try the taper suggestion, too. As for the colours, well I have 3 or 4 different versions of the artwork and they're all slightly different, so I'm going for a middle ground with those. Good point about the grease paint, though; I'll play with lighting tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

I had a problem with my card validation once, just after I moved house. I had to phone them - twice(from the UK, too!) - before it was dealt with. However, they were ultimately very helpful, and barring that one incident, they have a perfect record with me.

All I can suggest is practice and patience. It takes me hours to draw anything like a decent set of eyebrows, and I check my work frequently. Assuming you haven't already tried this - get hold of a transmap for Mike and study how they eyebrows are painted. Then, try to copy that.
