Uggh...I haven't looked at my inbox yet, but that is not good news... Sorry to pop into your box again...

Yeah, it's the same for me. I am just practicing patience for the next few days. I'm sure this was a tough upgrade, since the difference between testing and production phases is a few thousand users. Given how they improved the Marketplace over the course of the first few weeks, I am fully confident in 'Rosity to iron out any issues over the next few days. Interestingly though, there is a syntax error showing up for the page. Wonder if that's the problem area?

Heh, yeah I guess panic could set in. There weren't any real instructions on the new format. I had been following the move to the new format, and I knew there were going to be avatars, so once the format changed, that was the first thing I looked for. Fortunately, finding that allowed me to stumble across the other options.

Yeah Sharen, that's right, but you may not want to keep that option for too long. We all know how many threads are started every day here, and that could be a big flood in your inbox.

I like the new format. The color scheme is fine with me too. The only problem I seem to be having is that the thread icons aren't changing. Even after I post and leave a thread, the main forum page still has the yellow star saying there are new posts in the thread. Otherwise, it's fine, a bit sluggish, but fine.

You can define your own avatar directly. Just create one of whatever you want, and you can upload it on the my options page. Max dimensions are 100px x 130px, and 15kb.

Sharen, Also, if you want to be notified of new threads started here, you can go up to the top of the forum, right under the blue banner area, and click on "my options." It will take you to an area where you can specify how many threads you want to see, how many posts to view in a thread per page, define your avatar, and you can specify that you would like a message sent when a new thread is added, on a per forum basis. Personally, I didn't sign up for that. I can just imagine how many emails I would get per day from this forum!
Thread: Spawn Character script | Forum: Poser Python Scripting
Wow, I consider myself a pretty savvy coder, but that is like a whole different language to me. (I program SQL code day to day. I'm also very good with VBScript, JavaScript, and C variants. I have had a bit of a tough time with Python, but I am pretty comfortable with it now. Strangely, I have always had a problem with XML. You would think that something as simple as XML would be easy, but it has been my own personal bane.)
I'll have to see what I can figure out from PzrXML. I haven't touched it at all, except to look over the documentation. Thanks for the info!

Dude, that interface is awesome. Where did you learn the UI stuff to be able to do that? I just go with simple 1 input boxes, whether they be yes/no boxes, or select lists. I would love to build a UI like that for my scripts, without needing to use that PzrXML stuff.

Thread: Can an actor be locked via Python? | Forum: Poser Python Scripting
Thread: Locking lights | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Before running the script, create a prop, such as a box prop. This will be the actor you will parent your lights to.
The first drop down box will allow you to choose the figure you want the lights to follow. The second drop down will allow you to choose an actor in the scene to parent the lights to (the box primitive above.)
The script will then run. You will see a Python output box. It will take about half a minute to run. When it is done running, you will see a message telling you how long the script took to run, and the word Done. You can then close that Python window.
The lights will then follow the figure around the scene. The prop you used to parent the lights to will have disappeared. Do not delete the object, as that will break the parenting. Also, do not parent the lights to any of the figure's actors. It's a long list of actors that pops up, but if you set the prop to use to one of the figure's body parts, that part will disappear.
Let me know if there are any problems with the script. Hope this helps!

Hey Noel,What you discussed is exactly what I am trying to do. Someone was asking about parenting lights to an object, holding the lights in position. I was trying to do this using just one primitive for the target, but not actually having the lights pointing at it. I just want the lights to keep whatever position they were already in, but be parented to the prop.
Does this make sense? Thanks for the help. Lou

This could probably be solved via a Python script. Set up a box prop, inside the mesh of the figure, that the user via a select box determines, then parent the lights to it, then make the box invisible, and parent the the figure and box. Via the script, if you changed the figure, you could then run the script again, and it would then set the new parent.
This is purely theorectical, but I don't think it would be too much work. EDIT: Okay, I am trying to work on this now. It may take a little time, so bear with me. I'll let you know when it's done.
