You mean like Ozma? ..;) I tend to get 'cute' with my names, usually they're a thinly veiled meaning, that may have to be researched, but occasionally worth a raised eyebrow..;)

I've also been told that you can use it to start a list of objects, such as 'they assembled the ingredients for gunpowder; sulfer, carbon, and potassium nitrate. Of course, I'm from the South, which is not known for being grammatically accurate, (our spelling isn't always up to snuff either..;) Oh yeah, the emoticon for 'I'm kidding or teasing' uses the semicolon. Not that I ever do that..;)

CAVEAT 4- ignore the number at the beginning of the file name, it's just the first digit of the CD I keep it on. (Only 50 so far..;)

wrong as in we get the edited, slimmed down version? A lot of novels get that. The 3 Musketeers is much longer than the version most folks get. I had to special-order it as a present once. Not to mention a goodly number of The Brothers Grimm tales are 'wrong', in that the folk tales they took them from are a lot gorier (Little Red Riding Hood actually gets eaten, etc) than the final version.

Thread: "Parachutist", another Gentile quiet song (translated by me) | Forum: Writers
Klaus- 2 main things come to mind. Ryhme..you're on your way there, but the main thing with lyrics I would suggest is meter..the rhythm of the words as they're sung. Often just saying the words to yourselve will convey the beat, even the notes themselves. Right now it kinda..well, maybe you could rap to it, but I dunno..;)
As for the translation, a Gentile is someone who's either non-Jewish, or non-Mormon. As it stands, all I can say is you're getting good drugs, and we all want to know where..;)
In your defense, translation is a very hard thing to do, between grammar, idioms, and sometimes there's just some words that can't be translated. Sometimes you work for years on it (I've known a few translators and linguists)..and some really famous works have never been 'successfully' translated Dante's Inferno trilogy comes to mind.
Tell ya what- just for giggles, try posting it in it's original language, whatever that might be. Maybe someone else will have an idea of how to bring out the original feeling. All I can say is no sabe, jeune ce pas, ya nye znayu, ich veist nicht, mor di na..(all misspelled I know, but 'I don't know' is such a useful phrase, I know it in 5 languages..;) Take care.

Thread: Worst book you've read? | Forum: Writers
wow..I'd like to find the editor that ok'd it..I could be published in no time..;) It's hard to say the worst book, if it gets bad, I tend to make another trip to the used book store and replace it..;). Surprisingly, a book by Saberhagen about the Berserkers was fairly annoying, because about 10 pages into it, the historical parallels to the Battle of Midway become overwhelming (you realized how it was going to end before you're even a third of the way through..;) He admits to it in the afterword..so I guess he gets points for that
Actually, the worst book(s) I've ever read are any 5th book in a Piers Anthony collection..the guy really doesn't know when to quit. The first is good, 2nd ok, 3rd..well, you see how it goes. But that's just a tiny collection. Trying to read Kipling's the Light that Failed, I've tried twice, and never made it..;)

only thing I wish Bryce had that Vue has is the list on the side, where you can click on an individual item, and automatically be able to move it..would save a lot of 'tree bombing'..;)

Thread: A Feminist? Article (or the joy? of womanhood) | Forum: Writers
maybe it's just a reaction to the feminism of the 60's..where we were pointedly told to go away when feminism was discussed. We were the problem, so there was no need to discuss it. I suppose some habits die hard..
Don't feel bad, I'm closer to 50 than 40, and things are happening. I've got what I call 'locational memory'..where you go out of a room with a thought, and you leave, but it doesn't, and you have to go back into the room to remember what it was..;) Other things just don't work the way they used to...'nuff said. And the reason for the chin hair on women, etc., is that by the 40's, a woman's level of testosterone (yes, it's there) starts to rise.. and this leads to hair, uh..a desire for more of something..'nuff said again..;)I have found that older women are more sympathetic (well, maybe just more patient..;), more sure of themselves, and more fun to be around..but that's just me..;)
I'm a prime candidate for 'old clothes syndrome', since I find it hard to wear something 'hip' without laughing in the mirror. There are those men who just say 'to heck with it', and just grow old semi-gracefully. It's the other folks with comb-overs, toques, (tukes? whatever..;), the 'middle age crisis', etc., that have the hard time. I know women aren't fooled by it. Being St. Paddy's day, I have on 30-year-old Kelly Green socks (not throwing out clothes is a 'guy' thing too..;) which is about as close to geezer as I intend to get this week..;)

Folks..that's Vue and Mojoworld both setting up free software contests within, what, a coupla hours..in the Bryce Forum? Are they trying to tell us something? Should we tell Corel (maybe seeing the competition up to something might light a fire under their collective derrieres..;)?

I suppose there's special occasions..like if you change your nic and want to repost your gallery (don't worry, I did a lot of pruning from nu-be..;). Last 2 pics I did were essentially the same scene, I was just trying to brighten it up and see which came out better.
'rosity just came up with this category/subcategory thing, so I suppose you could use that as a filter, and cut down on some of the chatter. I've only posted 2 in a day twice, so it wouldn't hurt too much. Gotta be careful, or we'll start the 'hot 20' debate alllllll over again...sigh..;)

hmm..playing devil's advocate for a sec, I think it's more along the lines of 'if we can convince them that Corel's going nowhere with Bryce, and noone wants to buy it, we can convince them that their only alternative is Vue'..well, maybe I'm getting cyincal..should probably limit my visits to the OT forum..;) Of course, who's going to turn down free software?..;)
