Hopefully by placing this here someone at CL may see it. You have a better chance of them seeing it if you send it to them. >If it comes to that - I paid for a CD - why can't you send me the content on a CD at your cost! As I understand it they can and occationaly do send out updates on CD but in order to get them, you will have to contact CL tech support and possibley try a couple of diffrent things before they send it to you. I dont know if they charge anything for this, but i do not think it would unreasonable for you to pay for shipping and materials.

Mozilla reestablishes broken downloads? I wasted two download attempts on the P5 content last night... each attempt konked out after about five of the seven hours required!!! I had tried GetWell and it is neat but niether of the disables it has works on my machine so I had to uninstall it since it was using up download attempts here at MP (MP store restored them though... they have always been prompt and helpfull with me). I do feel that as a pre-order purchaser CL should send me a disc with the content and patch when it is ready... I had thought I was purchasing the final and complete product... no matter what download manager I have seven and nine hour downloads just isn't realistic for me... and I don't want any one saying it is my "fault" I don't have broadband, even if I had the money for it, outdated local phone infrastructure has me in a DSL blackout zone... I have tried to get service.
So it is CL's responsibility to pay for the additional expense caused by your local phone infrastructure? and they should do this for you because you paid less than suggested retail price? They might just do it. but you'll have to contact them to find out.

CL should fix their bugs. No dispute there.
CL is and has fixed bugs in their programs.
They are and will offer these updates.
Their distribution system works for most (i imagine). No it doesn't work for everyone. There are issues.
If you'd like to have your problems solved. contact the people who can solve them.

"If you'd like to have your problems solved. contact the people who can solve them."
It's a group problem for all of us that bought a defective product and can only use dial-up. -- And the group is here, not at CL's email.
One voice from the wilderness does not command a great deal of attention, but a group outcry generally gets a response.
The reason for posting here, in a community forum, is to gather together others with the same difficulty to address practical solutions collectivly.
But, even though neither the problem, nor the solution seems to be a concern of yours, thanks for your contribution to the discussion. (It got me to chime in)
The reasoning for you to contact the Manfacturer is that they will get the message that way
CL is under no obligation to check the third-party sites and probably only do so to post updates.
All the group yelling will NOT MATTER if it does not reach the intended party. The each member of the group needs to contact the manfacturer. Then the manfacturer will see that there is more of a need for this.
But hosting a protest on a website they probably do not read is a waste of time and resources better spent contacting them...
Hades bless, call them, you might find you gain better results with a Live Person. FYI, I worked 8 years in Customer Service both in a store and in a Call Center (I'm in operations now for said Call Center.) Anytime there was a problem with Airline Miles, we referred the Caller back to the Airline. Even though our hotels offer frequent flyer miles with many airlines, ultimately the caller needed to touch base with their airline to find out what steps to take. If they needed to get proof of the stay, then we forwarded the message to the hotel directly. BUT, you have to follow the procedure set up by the airline in order to have missing stays credited...

(moments later... sheepishly)
Ok, that did sound a tad snotty. Didn't really mean it that way TP, and might have suggested the same myself in other circumstances, but quite a few of us are really in a bind with this issue and the "sounds like a personal problem" implication just didn't sit well.
Now, on the hopefully helpful side, would it help the rest of you in this boat if the update were available in smaller segmented downloads - or - if resuming a disconnected download was keyed in same manner to not count a separate download attempt?
I'd prefer the former, especially if it allowed me to prioritize and acquire the content I wanted, and could skip over the bits I was not really interested in.
No, I only mention the phone because people around here ragg on me about it. The issue is that I bought the boxed product not the download. The product was not represented to me as other than the one offered for download or as a LE edition with a major memory bug. I do not believe the requirements disclosure included broadband access but maybe I missed that, my rocolection is that "requirements" indicated web access need only for Content Paradise use... the implication was I could purchase and use the application without any web access at all! I bought a product on disc and paid huge international import duty and brokarage fees for it, now I am to understand that I must download a true working version. I somehow missed referances to busted content and a disabling memory bug in the promotional materials for the boxed Poser 6 product unfortunately. Anyway, I'm not complaing... I'll go eat cake now. ;)
Oh, and early last week I did contact CL about spliting downloads for narrow band users. In customer support? Who would have thunk it??? Tyger_purr, you know a big part of this forum is something called "venting". You deal with a buggy program, you deal with incomplete and broken content, you deal with missrepresented content, you deal with a dificult mall fuction website, and you want to blow off steam... I have no problem with CL given the shipping price but one way to avoid seeing people like me bitch about irritaing hassles with your baby is to NOT READ THE THREAD! It is probably easier for you to NOT READ THE THREAD than for me to get satelite broadband. Maybe we need a broadband only forum haha. Anyway, I'm glad of this thread because I am using FireFox and now I know I should try Mozilla, I appologize to any broadband users who were injured by this thread.
FireFox is a Mozilla client. :-) Perhaps people are referring to a Mozilla download manager as opposed to FireFox or Netscape? In any case, I've used Free Download Manager (available from www.download.com ... and yes, it's freeware) for Content Paradise downloads. The CL servers do support resume, so this may be of help to those on dial-up, or those on DSL/brodband who lose connectivity during downloads.
Not to beat a dead horse, but you will indeed have a better chance of being heard by CL by contacting CL directly. Same goes for those who are daily preaching to the choir about the Poser 6 "memory bug." Don't assume that CL knows what render settings are causing problems on your system. Yes, they know about the bug from their perspective, but users need to realize that no company's internal tests account for all end user system configurations. Complaining here isn't proper bug reportage, as momentarily satisfying as it may feel to vent.
Another thing to consider regarding this download ... do you really want the missing Poser 5 content? EDIT: corrected download.com address
Message edited on: 04/26/2005 14:07
Firefox does have a built in Download manager that does allow for restarting failed downloads.
As Xoco stated it is a Mozilla browser without the bells and whistles you see in Netscape.
I understand the Venting part, but this thread has the appearence of calling on CL to do something...
If you would like help from some of the Content providers, www.poserforums.com & www.runtimedna.com are excellent sources of information as well. (Edited for Typos)

Sounds to me like everyone needs to send more e-mails and letters. There's no way to know how many CL's gotten yet but one thing is apparent to me. It's not yet enoph. Personaly I've sent them in the neighborhood of around 3 or 4 e-mails about these and other concerns. If CL is dug in on their possition then I think only continued and sustained letters and e-mails can change it. Good luck and don't give up! :)

Tyger_purr, you know a big part of this forum is something called "venting Oh, I know people vent. Its just when there is a solution to their problem I want to guide them in the right direction. >It is probably easier for you to NOT READ THE THREAD than for me to get satelite broadband. That may be debatable. The desire to help is in my very nature, making it not so easy to avert my attention :-)

You have a bad attitude, mylemonblue. If some vendor in the Market Place here sells a defective product and requires people to contact them by registered mail to request the snail mailed patch on floppy it's gonna just be me and Tyger_purr here to remind everyone that it isn't the vendor's responsibilty to defray everyones land shipping costs just because he/she was selling a BETA while representing it as a an "official release" product... you know CL was FORCED by us to advertise and launch a product that hadn't been fully tested and debugged, we were the once who MADE them advertise the BETA software as a full and functioning product, and we should defend every vendor here in the right to sell their BETA software as fully functioning and expect us to subsidize their product delivery with our high speed access as well. People should certainly feel guilty if after subsidizing the launch of a product they carp about being left with a substandard unstable BETA rather than the full product.
Oh, I cross posted with you, Tyger_purr. Just having fun :) Bottomline, I consider the sale of an application like Poser for under $800 essentialy a gift from the company. I have little discretionary money (No this is not CL's problem)... so it is hard on me that I paid for a BETA. But that said I think the BETA is a bargin at $149USD. No real complaints from me. But if you sell a defective product it seems honorable to make it good without putting undue burdons on the consumer. The product was not advertized as defective, and it was not advertised as requiring broadband... you know there are actually people without internet, after running a major site begun in 1992 I actually got rid of any connection until 1999 and then went off line again from 2000-2003. If a product is only for the haves then that should be indicated. Anyway, it is kind of you to try to help.

I think if we all send off an email a day to CL using your wording it may impress upon them the need to change the way they provide update.

I dont know if they charge anything for this, but i do not think it would unreasonable for you to pay for shipping and materials. I know it's a dead horse - but think about that statement.. If and a big IF the updates were available on CD I paid for a full and working copy of Poser 6 on disc, that has already cost me $88 AUD in shipping. Why then should I have to pay extra shipping for something that wouldn't fit on the CD when it originally shipped or then again for something makes the program function properly. I'm not bashing Poser 6 - I love it - it's just the useless hoops that one has to jump through to get update.

Don't let on... I'm okay with paying for the patch disc. I don't mind so long as it is at cost more or less... they should offer it just as many vendors offer "burn your order to disc" for $10-$35 (postage incl.) if they are not sending it out for free as a matter of course. but please write "DEMO CD" and "No Commercial Value" on the shipping forms ;) I just don't like being dressed down because "my interenet isn't as big as yours"! If Banana Replublic sells by mail-order catalog they shouldn't reneg on the shipping once you've paid on account that "most" of thier customers can swing by the store to pick up their orders. My final word again... I can't imagine how a program I imagine is more complex then Photoshop by far, and involving much more complicated and amazing content, can sell at a quarter or a third the price. $149 for anything that actually runs on your computer is amazing... look what kind of software goes for $60 or $80 in the Market Place! Actually, I'm not worried... I'm sure when things quit down CL will send discs to who needs them... my experience of The Poser world is that everyone is well intentioned though sometimes people are to busy to deal with problems right away.
Think you are right - but another analagy sprung to mind - I wonder how those that are saying we are whinging would feel if:- They bought a lovely new refrigerator and it was shipped to them only to find out that it doesn't run cool enough to keep food properly. You ring the manufacturer - "Oops we are sorry we left out a component, which you can fit yourself - but where you live you will have to pay $X for us to ship it to you. Just bad luck you don't live next door, you could drop by and pick it up." And to whoever said jump on the phone - remember this is an International Community - I certainly don't feel like calling the US to possibly be left hanging on the phone whilst I "wait for a custmer service to become available".

I imagine that they did not advertise it as defective, because they didnt believe it was defective. I didnt hit the memory error till last night. (I preordered the box set and was one of the first to receive it) Only after having poser up for 3 days and doing 94 renders did I finally get the memory error box. Ive had operating systems that didnt work consistently for that long :) . Maybe Im just lucky.(maybe all the beta testers had systems like mine.) Hardly debilitating. Tastiger. Improve on your analogy. The part is available 10 miles down the road. You can get it, except you dont have a truck (broadband), and walking (dialup) is to slow and unreliable (bad neighborhood) so youre asking someone to take time to deliver it to you. A service they dont offer because they dont have a truck either. So they have to get a cab. It would be nice if they pay for the cab, and thy might do it, but not unreasonable for you to pay for the cab cost.

The used car salesman knows when he's lying... LOL - I love that The CL servers do support resume, I'm not too sure about that one - my download canned last night and I use Reget which isn't a freebie - actually had to download a ssl plugin to get it work with CP, and I hit the 3 download limit wall.

I don't know if I'm the only one who gets reasonably timed responses from CL, but after sending them a problem I was having with P6 they were most interested and replied within 2 days. I've responded to that email with more details thismorning and expect an answer tomorrow or the day after. If anyone is having problems with P6 then I agree that the only way to make them aware of the fact is to write to them. Just my 0.02p's worth. 8) Catlin
"If anyone is having problems with P6 then I agree that the only way to make them aware of the fact is to write to them." This isn't an issue with P6, I'm happy with my copy or will be once it's fixed - it's just how we have to go about getting it fixed is the issue here. And yes we know they do respond to issues regarding Poser 6 - it's just that this CP thing seems to be set in stone and is something they are reluctant to change, even if it means that some of us without broadband are unable to download updates. I know - it's all aimed at anti piracy - but those same measures are preventing Registered Owners from accessing the material. In this case it may only be P5 content - but not everyone had P5 and the content should have shipped with the original product. To say there was no room on the CD is a cop out - I received 3 CDs in my package and I'm sure there must have been space on the Winter Queen disc for the Poser 5 content. How will we get on if the bug fix is a 100 meg download?

"but not unreasonable for you to pay for the cab cost."
Not as you relate it, but you've left out one important detail.
He did in fact already pay extra to have his order physically "delivered". They failed to include the entire product in the original shipment, thereby creating the additional expense.
Not his error. Not his liability.
They set the terms, they took his money.
They made the mistake. Their liability.
The question now is what is the least expensive method that would be acceptable to both parties to fulfill CLs obligation.
Ya know While it is primarily a financial issue on both sides, a bit of PR would probably take care of this for many of us. A little mea culpa and a hard luck story would probably sway most. Like:
*Hey we screwed up, but if we have to pay to produce and ship all these extra discs itll mean layoffs here, and delay developments on future products significantly, plus get all of us here into hot water with the Most Honorable Owners.
So, if you can just cover our shipping cost for your missing product, youll be our favorite customer and well give you some sort of compensatory gift certificate or something for your additional expense and assistance in covering up our boo-boo and saving our miserable careers.*
Wouldnt be a dry eye in the house, and I suspect most would jump onboard.
I know I still had a dial-up line when one of the big Poser 5 updates came out and I could not get it to download completely. I contacted Curious Labs via e-mail and they very kindly sent me the update on a CD--for free. I worked enough jobs with direct public contact to learn that most companies are willing to help you if you politely request help directly from them and explain why you need help. I have found this to be true from Curious Labs, Renderosity, DAZ3d, and some of the smaller vendors here within the Poser community.

Hopefully by placing this here someone at CL may see it. Contrary to popular belief not everyone on this planet has access to broadband internet. Some of us still have to connect thru a phone line at 56 K or less! Dial up access is known to be slow and does drop out at times! Content Paradox only gives you 3 attempts to download - even using a download manager you still hit the 3 download limit if it has to reconnect for any reason. How in the hell am I supposed to download 150 odd meg if if I only get 3 attempts at it? If it is this hard to get just the P5 content release - I won't hold out hope for me ever getting hold of the Poser 6 patch as I imagine that will be large download as well. If it comes to that - I paid for a CD - why can't you send me the content on a CD at your cost!
