I'll bet the people at Eovia are retarded little trolls who think we are all stupid. They don't give a damn about making a patch, well mabye a tire patch or something, but not a software patch, I doubt they know how. Are oyu reading this Eovia? Or are you too busy figuring a way to get us all to buy Amapi?
Kaom, I understand and share your frustration, but I would like for you to try adopting a less insulting tone. Six months ago, Carrara was dead in the water. Antione has invested his time, energy, and quite likely his own financial resources to revive it. Given the problems one finds in many Metacreations products, this cannot be an easy task. I cannot say what may or may not be the circumstances that Eovia is facing, but referring to them as "retarded little trolls" does not help the situation. It is fine to say "I am disappointed with.." or "I am frustrated that..", but let's please try to keep the dialogue at a non flaming level.
I see where your coming from, and yes I was being fairly insulting. But I bought Carrara for professional use, and this has become a nightmare. I have lost money and clients because of Carrara and all of the crap that's gone on with it. It's hard to explain to clients that I can't render their animations because the software doesn't want to run right. If I had unlimited money I'd go buy 3D Studio Max or Lightwave and be happy and you'd never hear me complain again. If Eovia would just make a clear statement about the situatuion of the patch(whether it's coming or not) I'd calm down, but instead they keep sending me emails about discounted prices on Amapi.I'm sure it's no easy task to get Carrara up to par,but when they bought Carrara they also bought all of the old customers along with it. And here we all are still waiting for apatch, let alone a clear honest statement about when and if it will exist. I didn't write it to offend you and I apologize, but I've lost a lot of sleep over this whole thing. We need to bitch, that's what this forum is here for if it's needed, mabye Eovia will listen and make an announcement, or even a patch.
I can certainly understand where you are coming from. Myself,I have been investing far more of my energy in Bryce and Poser recently for character animation, and Rhino for modelling. I find that I am in the position of having a background in software (RDS and Carrara) that is not presently being taken seriously on a resume, which is rather frustrating. I am seriously hoping that they can get this ship out of drydock soon, because I would like to be able to work with a software that is stable and versatile, rather than outsourcing to other sister applications. Believe me, if I were to come into four thousand dollars through some good fortune, I too would be delighted to purchase 3D Studio Max, Lightwave, SoftImage or some other comparable high end application and never look back.
Well i started this thread because i belong to the lw forum and if newtek came in (which they do) and started trying to sell us max after just aquiring them people would flame the hell out of them ive even read threads in the carra e groups of people who worked there down playing people for not buying amp thats fn rediculous im through with their bull s i spent 400 dollars on a program with potintial but i dont think you will see a patch until people in the carrar forum stop buying amp 6 its very easy to see what their goal is and you guys in my opinion should flame the hell out of them everyime they bring it up in the forum i mean it is still the carrara forum isnt it and as it is now you can find lw for as little as 1200 with all the competitive upgrades they offer 450 carrara = 300 amp 6 =200 carrar upgrade if it ever happpen = pain in the ass lame support = not that much of a investment to get lw instead
I understand you people getting angry after Eovia . But as Kolschey said, treating them "retarded little trolls" is not necessary . Besides, trolls are from northern Europe, and most of the team at Eovia comes from France . If you had said "retarded little korrigans", it would have been more accurate ! ;) Just kidding, of course ... Aggresive posts don't deserve to get any answers in general . No hard feelings though, coz we all get impatient sometimes . But isn't that the proof that we like Carrara, after all ? So please stop trolling ! litst
It's possible that getting aggressive is the only way to make Eovia understand that we want our patch. I don't like complaining but I've been patient for a long time(since the day I bought Carrara)and we should be venting our frustrations on here, it's healthy and non-violent. Mabye just mabye Eovia will pay attention and realise that we are not buying Amapi just fill the void that Carrara is leaving. I realise that Eovia didn't screw us in the first place, Metacreations did! But they have to understand that we were left on the side of the road with a screwed up program. I wonder if Metacreations informed them when they bought Carrara that there were a whole bunch of angry customers that came along with the purchase of Carrara who were tricked into buying the program in the first place. "Damned little korrigans"!!!!I won't say retarded or troll again, I promise.
There's something to remember too : we're not the only one who have been screwed by Metacretins . Most of their employees were fired ! And the team at Eovia is partially composed by ex-Metacretins employees, who decided to continue to work on Carrara . Because Carrara was at the beginning of Eovia, i really think they won't let us down . litst
Hi litst my point in posting this is not really the fact that the patch isnt out! my point is more in pointing out the fact that every time i read a message in carrara e groups its about ampi 6 ! If i bought a cable channel that advertised football 24 / 7 and all they played was opera id be pissed, it wasnt what i suscribed to and im paid for football! im not calling them names but the fact is that i dont here or see new features or problems being solved instead i here about our new sale prices on amp 6 i read a post in e groups by a eovia employee telling somone that said that they didnt want to here anymore about amp 6 they told the group member maybe they shouldnt read the post anymore i think that was a bad move! and the whole way the company deals with the forum. if you go there today i gauruntee they is at least more than one post about amp 6 in the CARRARA e groups that is my point i dont think im out of line in posting this thread in closing im glad the meta people found new homes but i dont think a forum of people that spent hard earned money on a good program should bu used as a bilboard for buying something else when the first product is broken !
I know the problem ... I'm not really interrested by Amapi at the moment neither . I am wondering why there isn't any dedicated Amapi group on Yahoo . Someone interrested by both softwares could subscribe to both groups . But that's their problem, if there were some Amapi users here at Renderosity, we would suggest to create another forum . Two apps, two places . But only one editor ! ;) litst
What I find interesting is the fact that they are trying to sell us Amapi now, but just a few months we all had the chance to download Amapi 4.15 for free. I downloaded it and have used it, it's a useful little tool in the creation of 3D models, but why would we buy Amapi 6? There isn't a great deal of difference between 4.15 & 6, and niether can fill the shoes of a full fledged 3D program(like what Carrara was intended to be-(a cheap solution to 3D Studio Max). Which if the bugs and quirks were worked out-it would be just that.
I have somewhat mixed feelings on this. Certainly a patch is long overdue and empty promises don't do much to make us happy little customers. But I can't really believe that Eovia is sitting back in their ivory tower spending their days thinking of ways to irritate us either. I expect that they would like to have this patch business out of the way at least as much as we would. As for Ampapi, I considered it but it just doesn't work for me. Incorrect screen redraws and periodic freezes make it unuseable on my system. I suppose I could tinker ad nauseum and eventually get it working but it is just not worth the time and effort to me. But I can't really fault them for promoting it on these lists. After all, it is a very good offer and if they can't give us the Carrara patch at least they are giving us a good deal on Amapi. Will I wait for C2? I don't know. Rhino is starting to look good to me and I can always render in Bryce. I guess at this point it all depends on how much the upgrade will cost.
Something that occurs to me is the fact that all of our concerns we express here may not be heard by any of the Eovia people anyway. As a software developer, I know the drastic pitfalls of telling customers about a deadline and then fall flat and miss it. I think that's one extra good way to make customers way more mad no matter what their state of concern. I do however think that if they're in alpha or beta testing, a note to us on that front would be good. It would also be useful if some of those Beta testers could post on the forum and tell us how things are going be they good or bad. Dates and deadlines are risky but reliable underground news is ok. Anybody from Eovia out there listening? You don't have to tell me your name. Just let me know how it's going. The forum is good for venting frustration and it's probably Ok to do that as long as it's reasonably constructive. Amapi is just another piece of software in our 3D software ocean that we all have to consider and weigh. Eovia is partners with TGS and I think they've given us Carrara victims a shot at getting some software for half price. They may think it's a partial pacifier for now but I think it's just a nice thing for them to do regardless if Amapi is a good deal or not. It didn't cost me anything to get the offer. I don't think Carrara will lose modeling capabilities in its future incarnations so it doesn't really matter to me. The Eovia team didn't create or fuss with Amapi. It's just the software their partners make.

I emailed Eovia the other day, in fit of frustration, this is what I got back from them today. And it still mentions nothing about a new patch, I find it good for a short chuckle. Dear PO'd Carrara user, This is Carol with Eovia/TGS support. > You wrote... > Are you guys going to give us a new patch to fix Carrara or not? You > might want to go read what's being said at Renderosity. Were all getting > a little sick and tired of this whole thing. We already have a patch available on our website for Carrara 1.0-1.01 ( You didn't mention your version.) If you're inquiring about the release date for Carrara by Eovia, I would say an early summer release can be expected. > And by the way, I don't want to buy Amapi, I already got my free > version thanks. You're welcome, we hope you enjoy it. If you obtained a full version of Amapi 3D at no charge, it's likely that you have version 4.1. The current version of Amapi 3D is 6.01. > We want a patch, where is it?????????? > Pissed off Carrara user Your frustration is understandable. Eovia's R&D has/ is working very hard, and as quickly as possible to create and complete a good product. We appreciate your patience. Thank you
This was posted a few hours ago on the yahoo groups carrara list. Philip Staiger works for TGS, the company that merged with Eovia. From: "Philip Staiger" Date: Thu May 31, 2001 1:44 pm Subject: Re: [Carrara] It's the last day of may :-( Oh Darn, I thought there were 33 days this month. We really may need it. Ok, so perhaps we decided to fix a few more minor bugs, all the more to make everyone happy with an even better product. Perhaps we're adding more content to the CD,.... Last I heard we're planning to freeze end of this week and ship product shortly thereafter (time to get CDs and boxes done and packaged...) But, alas, it's possible there were some glitches in the pipeline, or another blackout stopping something for an hour or two, or a minor or not-so-minor bug is being fixed still. It's not "how these software companies work", it's just reality. Add to that a long list of possible things that can empede on a target date or schedule, such as a hard drive crash, a computer virus, a thick fog in Memphis delaying the overnight FedEx delivery of the production CDs, someone's catching the flu or other ailments from jetlag to sleep deprivation, loosing internet connection for a day or week, delays in production of components from other sources (books, packaging, flyers...) and suddenly you get the big picture and realize that you're not in total absolute control of every single aspect of this project. (note that I don't know if any of the above mentioned things actually happened, it's just my humble view and a bit of academic exercise :-) Hang in there, if you don't hear from Antoine, it probably means he's working hard and has no time to surf the list or web until the product is completed. We don't want to give you a product just because it's the 31st. We want to give you a product because it's ready and the best it can be. And then some. back to work I go ... -Philip

Why is everyone in this forum so down on Amapi? It's a kick- ass modeler that can export into almost any other 3D package. It even has features you won't even find in Lightwave, (I know, I own Carrara, Amapi and Lightwave). The modelers in Carrara are toys in comparison! No, it's not a full 3D animation package, but as a modeler it is an amazing product for the price. It's clear from the comments in this thread most people haven't really learned this program but are judging it after spending maybe half an hour dabbling with it, getting frustrated then giving up. Learn the thing and you will understand what I am talking about. The complaints that Amapi is buggy are obviously coming from those who downloaded the free version. If you buy it as I did then there is a patch for the 5.5 version and I would imagine also in V.6, which puts an end to those bugs. I too tried the free download for a week before I bought it and I found it buggy, but the 5.5 version with the patch works almost flawlessly. So stop critisizing something you've obviously never bothered to learn. Amapi is going to be your salvation.
Klanger, I am not down on Amapi. I said only that it did not work properly on my system and made no judgements about the program. I tried the v6 demo. If I can't get the demo to work I would be a fool to spend my money on the full product. If you read the posts in this thread again you will find that nobody has said a single word against Amapi. But people are upset that they paid for something, Carrara, that is so buggy as to be unuseable for many. Even so they have patiently awaited a patch which time after time fails to materialize despite the publisher's promises. Is it truly such a difficult thing to understand that people only want what they paid for?

I have carrar and think its a good program but i bought lw i still belong to carrara e groups and i had to come in here because The only thing i ever see in the e group is them pushing fkn amp 6 well why the hell didnt they just tell everyone no were not really concerned with doing anything to carrara but we would like you to buy amp6 6 i more mad for other people cause alot of peole other than me held off on buying other programs to get the upgrade at this point even when it comes out the tools are bound to be a little behind the time just a rant but maybe you guys should start telling eovia to shove amp6 up their ass and get busy with what youve already paid for!
