Subject: looking for..um.. a certain piece of clothing prop

I know this is going to sound very odd but, I am looking for a hood similar to a KKK memeber. I know this isn't the greatest thing to be asking for but, I have seen one floating around before. The item would not be used in any hate related material. It would be used in a PARODY ONLY !!!!!. (This idea came from watching Porky's II and Blazing Saddles the other night. )

I liked the scene in the Chevy Chase film, Fletch, myself.

_dodger ( ) posted Fri, 21 February 2003 at 4:57 PM

Doesn't seem to me to be a hate-related thing to ask for a Klan hood or a Nazi armband. Isn't there a movie out now with like black FBI agents or something? I remember something like that in previews, and they're infiltrating a Klan meeting. Villains. The real world would be better off without Insane Arab Terrorists, Nazi Punk Skinheads, Klan Grand Dragon Members, Serial Killers and Hate-Mongering Homophobic Fundamentalist Religious Zealots, no story would be any good without their ilk. Likewise, the Real World would have been better off historically without Slave Traders, Nazis, Aztec Priests, Historically Accurate Druids (I'm a witch, I'm not trying to offend anyone who's a 'modern druid' unless you haul people off to use in wicker men), Ayatollahs, and so on. What would Star Wars have been without the humanocentric, hate-mongering, genocidal, planet destroying Empire? What would Indiana Jones have been without Nazis (the third movie even has Adolf Hitler make an appearance (obviously not the real one)). It doesn't even have to be parody. Major sons of bitches like Osama Bin Laden, David Duke, and Saddam Hussein do exist in the real world, and your Poser heros or your novel heroes would have little to do without them. In the real world, we have more shades of grey than are displayed, perhaps, by most stories, of course. For instance, while I think Hussein and Bin Laden are major sonsabitches, I also think Dubya is right up there with them. While he doesn't want to kill off vast quantities of Americans, he does seem to have an agenda of re-infiltrating our country with Christian ideology (and takes pains to mention god in every one of his speeches), a concept which, as a practicing witch and thus a member of the people that according to strict interpretation of their religious rules, I'm not supposed to be suffered to live -- not to mention the numbers of teachers who have lost their jobs because their religion 'wasn't appropriate around children', parents who have lost their children because Colorado or Utah or wherever decided that they, solely by their choice of religion, 'weren't responsible enough to have kids', and this guy who wants this to be the par for the course is the ruler of our country. Villains abound. Don't apologise for asking for one.

The real translation is "Thou shalt not suffer a poisoner to live."

Old King James had witch issues.

_dodger ( ) posted Fri, 21 February 2003 at 5:33 PM

Yeah, but try to convince a Baptist of that B^)

_dodger ( ) posted Fri, 21 February 2003 at 5:34 PM

Venefactor, malefactor, what's the difference?

_dodger ( ) posted Fri, 21 February 2003 at 5:35 PM

Besides, if the translation was verified by sustained prayer with God himself, it must have meant Witch because God said so, right? At least, that seems to be the popular Fundie opinion.

Dodger, Wow! I'm impressed. I'd usually enter a thread like this to correct some ideologically-biased misrepresentation (such as attacking only ayatollahs or Baptist preachers. ) But as you have in short order slammed not only Islamic and Christian fundamentalists, but also a non-monotheistic religious order, I can only compliment your broad-minded "reductio ad absurdum" of a large swath of various Western and Middle Eastern traditions. It's a strange honor to commend to someone that they are ecumenical in their disdain. There is strange sensitivity (or is that insensitivity?) even in your hatred. True misanthropist everywhere will chant your name....well, no they won't as they hate humankind. But you know what I mean. chucking, --lb

bijouchat ( ) posted Fri, 21 February 2003 at 9:31 PM

uhm, there tain't no such thing as Historically Accurate Druids around in these days, byron. (the reason dodger slams them is because they practiced human sacrifice, I guess you didn't know that...) as for the rest, I think dodger was more slamming the fundamentalist of any religion that can't suffer anyone other than themselves to exist. I can only agree with him on those kinds of people, be they Muslim or Christian or worshiping aliens on Mars. :) They make a damn good bad guy in your comic though! oh, and Bush 1.0 advocated removing American citizenship for atheists. Yeah, he did. And he isn't nearly as zealous as his little boy. :) I think dodger has good reason to be a bit leery, given that Wiccans put up with a LOT of discrimination from fundamentalist Christians. and as for those imams... a Pakistani coworker of my mother (a Muslim, also an American citizen and proud to be one) came up to my mother a few days ago and told her that the imam in the Bronx (NYC) is STILL preaching hate against Americans there. And then, after delivering a hate filled speech against Americans, asked everyone to pray for their green cards. At that point, her Pakistani coworker stalked out of the mosque, absolutely disgusted with the behaviour of the Imam and not to return. He told her what happened because he said... I want you to know what goes on in my community. I don't agree with hating anyone and this is wrong, he told my mother. His brother is in the military and this poor fellow is worried! Can you blame him? I wish more Muslims and Christians would be like that Pakistani guy, disgusted and stalk out of their church or mosque when the preachers of any religion preach HATE. keep on rendering those bad guys people! Fundamentalists of any ilk preaching death to the unbelievers deserve to be rendered as villains!

lordbyron ( ) posted Fri, 21 February 2003 at 11:18 PM

Bijouchat, uhm...yes, I do understand why Dodger slams druids. I think you misunderstand the tenor of my comments to Dodger. While decidely tongue in cheek, I was earnestly commending him for the open-mindedness of his anti-fundamentalist stance. Too often I see individuals attack the narrowness of one doctrine or another w/o struggling with the narrow perspective that seems a common human trait. If there was any deprecation in my remarks it was simply a part of my uneasiness with the paradox of hating those who hate. But this paradox is unanswerable in our short scope of conversation. Dodger, i think, shows us the basic answer with how to deal with fundementalisms of most sorts: good-natured derision. For extreme hatred of any sort stands as the basis from which they spring. So chill out and laugh. I did. I think Dodger was doing so. ridendo castigat mores, --lb

mizombie ( ) posted Sat, 22 February 2003 at 12:56 AM

umm ok, I didn't mean to start a war here. Just looking for a prop is all. People can and are very sensitive about these types of things, that is why I put the "for Parody only " tag in there

_dodger ( ) posted Sat, 22 February 2003 at 1:44 AM

L You didn't, I don't think, MZ. I was just saying that hatemongers of any ilk that tout discrimintation, genocide, and so on are perfectly viable subjects for renders. If I were to make a 'villains' package and include outfits for 'Insane Arab Terrorist', and 'Nazi Stormtroopers' I'd get shit from the muslims, but if I included 'Televangelist', 'Corporate Mogul', and 'Mary, Queen of Scots' all in the same package, the only Muslims who could justify getting upset would be the 'Insane Arab Terrorists' really, because the rest would see I gave equal representation to villains of many cultures. Strangely enough, I think I haven't actually been flamed. I'm in favour of freedom to worship as you choose, to think as you choose, and to do as you choose, provided that what you believe, think, and do isn't dedicated to hurting anyone else or stopping others from having the same freedoms. I think that people who are dedicated to hurting others, regardless of the excuse are the real villains, is all. Hatemongering is the same regardlesss of the excuse for the hatemongering. 'She worships Satan!', 'He doesn't believe in my God!', 'He humps guys!', 'She wasn't a virgin when she was born!', 'His skin's too dark!', 'I don't like her culture!', 'Her ancient ancestors killed my god's kid!', 'He's too old!', 'She's too young!', 'He's too spitty looking!', 'Damned offworlders!', 'Damned flatworlders!', 'He's a robot!', 'She has antennae!', 'They eat their own dead!', 'He wears makeup!', 'She wears trousers!', 'Damned Vampire fag!', 'he doesn't show respect for the Shaman!', 'You're in contempt of my contemptible courtroom!', 'You're corrupting the Arab World with your decadent Western Ways!', 'Wife swapper!', 'Porn star!', 'Cultist!', 'Queer!', 'Whore!', 'Heathen!', 'You're claiming to be the King of the Jewsm and it's under Roman rule!' See? If people really need to hate -- I'm not saying they should hate, but if it is in fact human instinct that can't be overcome, how about using these excuses instead (provided they are true and the person is proven to fit the description by due process)... 'Racist!', 'Kiddie porn peddler!', 'Child Molester!', 'Serial killer!', 'Mass murderer!', 'Theocrat!', 'Usurer!', 'Husband beater!', 'Animal Sadist!', 'Brainwasher!', 'Person who drugs others without their consent!', 'Rapist!', 'making people pay for 'protection' whether they like it or not (I forget the word, like the Mafia and gangs do) -- yeah, take that you IRS agent you!' 'Jackass!' Ever notice that the Nazi salute and the Black Panthers' salute are almost identical? An it harm none, do as ye will.

Try living in a town of roughly 15,000 people that has 96 Penticostal/Christian Denominational churches and one catholic :o) When people realise your not a christian, they tend to only be polite to when they are making money off of you. Some Wiccan friends of mine considered opening a Unitarian branch here but decided it would be unwise...freedom of religion really isn't an accepted idealism in small town, bible belt/midwest America. I am not intolerant of other faiths...in fact...I applaud those who have found some sort of path in their lives that helps become better, happier individuals. This can be faith, change of lifestyle, art...whatever. Its the prejudice that is unfortunately prevalent and seemingly ingrained in human nature that angers me. So...my general answer to anyone that bothers to take the time to try convert, pressure or change my views on 'faith' is 'I'm not going to change just to please you, Blessings to you and good day.' We could discuss this until the end of time...its an ugly truth of the world that not going to change anytime soon unless society as a whole shifts radically in its fundamental structure...its just the way of the world I guess. Excuse any typos, I haven't had my coffee yet :o(

raz ( ) posted Sat, 22 February 2003 at 8:34 AM

In reference to my above post in this thread, i recieved a personal nastygram from someone who thought I was NOT "humorous". As I pointed out to him, I was raised a southern babtist, and my family tree originates from the south. Am I offended by others views? No. Do I have a quirk that would make me feel an urge to argue a view and/or e-mail someone personally about it to repremand them or just let them know how I feel? Absolutley not. I challenge the e-mailer to take a look at himself and ask who he thinks he really is to feel he has some kind of influence, power, authority, or whatever, to repremand me for my humor. If this is his biggest concern, that my above post is NOT funny, and he wanted me to surely know it, than his issues run much deeper. As far as I'm concerned, the only to "offensive" elements that should be claimed as being "offensive" with any validity, are racism and sexism. All the others are mere bandwagon -I-have-to-be-a-follower- garbage, and hold no ground anywhere, and I suspect the folks claiming to be offended are really not, but it just sounds cool to make an issue (again, with the exception of race or sex). I cannot believe that this e-mailer's attempt to repremand my humor feels the need or even takes the time to do so. I do NOT apologise for the above post, and DO NOT CARE if anyone claims to find it OFFENSIVE. It's not, and It's FUNNY. That has been portrayed in many comedy movies, T.V. sitcoms, cartoons like southpark, etc., and I get a kick out of everytime. I'm quite sure he has not written all the successful producers of those shows to repremand them too. I hardley ever respond to a thread here, but have been a member since 2000 before changing my login in 2001 as I moved. If this e-mail was made by a board admisistrator, then I wont bother to ever post a response again. If it was made by a whiner claiming to be offended, here's something well all need to consider: 1. I will not conform to being a "stiff" and not be homorous just because you're not. 2. Although I might take a differnt stance on the issues and topics of this thread, I will NOT repremand the others for it, or personally e-mail them about it, or even try to "convert" anyone. 3. In reading the posts here, the writers of the topics seem to be INTELLIGENT free thinking individuals, which I am confident will agree with ME on this. 4. Lastly, a multi-millionair friend/mentor (who has prooved I should listen to what he has to say about life) once told me: " If you're concerned what others may think, or do think, then you need to GET OVER YOURSELF! When you finally do this, there's only one direction". I respect you all, Raz

_dodger ( ) posted Sat, 22 February 2003 at 9:36 AM

the only to "offensive" elements that should be claimed as being "offensive" with any validity, are racism and sexism well, along with related isms... religionism (i.e. the concept that other religions are evil and should be punished or exterminated), culturism (the concept that because other cultures are different, they are automatically inferior to your own), nationalist intolerance (the idea that other countries, even those that share your culture, as in the case of Canada, America, and Aussie, are somehow inferior), partisanism (the idea that your preferred political party and the elected leaders therein are always right and other always wrong simply because you decided it was your political party), subculturism (the idea that because someone has a different aesthetic then you, that they are 'weird' and 'bad' -- Goths put up with this one a lot), and of course homophobia. There are a few others that aren't issues now, but might be in the future. While these may seem humourous now, they could be very serious issues in the distant or maybe even not-too-distant future. For instance, speciesism/xenophobia -- when we finally encounter another similarly intelligent species in the universe they might not be too happy with us if we decide they are bad ebcause they aren't human (or vice-versa), related concepts apply to this, like potentially Hominidism, Mammalianism, and Vertebratism -- say we encounter two intelligent lifeforms someday, and one is a vaguely hominid mammal-like live-birth, warm-blooded, beaver-like species, while the other is a silicon-based arthropoidal insect-lookin' thing... and the first decide to hate us because we're mostly bald and smarter than they are, while the second is really peaceful and intelligent, but we decide to hate them because they look like metallic bugs or something... Oragnicism could be an issue in our near future depending on how computer science evolves -- if artificial intelligence becomes a reality, we could be faced with the possibility of racism between man and machine, either direction or both. It's all in fun right now to think of figures like, for instance, Darth Vader as cool in their evilness, but really think about it -- what would we say in the real world if someone was a major figure in the rise to power of a government that casually destroyed ten billion people and extinctified quadrillions of lifeforms and countless unique environments all with a single command just to deomnstrate their power to a single political prisoner (as in, the destruction of Alderaan in Star Wars)? We (or our descendants) might have to think about issues like this. Sure, a real Death Star doesn't seem likely to us, but then try explaining a Chinook helicopter to Alexander the Great and watch his eyebrow raise, you know? I'm not saying to take Star Wars seriously, but, rather, to accept the necessary place villains occupy in fiction, which is what we usually create with Poser. The real world, however, can do without them.

DEEP my friend, and I do not disagree. (strangley enough) but didn't in the first place either, just responding to a nastygram i got in the email. Never criticize one until you have walked a mile in their shoes...That way, when you do criticise them, your a mile a way from them, and YOU HAVE THEIR SHOES! :) Yes, it is all fun an games (humorous) to me now, and prolly will continue to be until i poke an eye out! But until then, I have a good life, family, house, income, and am very happy with life in general! So, I'm not sweating the small stuf (or at least what is small stuff to me). And, perhaps My renders show my sprit as well, just as your ideas of appropriate villians. For instance, the "its all fun and games till 1 pokes an eye out" thing has got me thinking....Hmmmmmm you can also add: blu-eyeism type of car-ism bulleggedism (a problem i have) no-soup-for-you-ism jerry springer-ism I see the point... IMO contemporary condemnations of extinct cultures are always problematic. The mention of "Aztec priests" raises the spectre of a debate I've gotten into countless times over the years. I totally agree with the essence of what Dodger is saying, but feel that most of what is said in cultural or political arguments about the Azteca is part of the "culturism" that Dodger rightly criticizes. Just a thought. (Another is that we modern Americans have our own systems of human sacrifice, but that's probably for the OT forum.) This thread reminds me of my friend who explores aspects of African-American history in his artwork. About a year ago he had a show which featured large, beautiful photographs of him wearing Klan hoods made of African fabrics. He's black, so the effect of his eyes looking out thoughtfully from those hoods was stunning and compelling. Made people nervous in all the right ways. Sorry, I'm at a loss for how to make this post releate to Poser. :-)
