Do the dynamic clothes for vicky and michael found here in the freebie section work with other Poser character like eg James ?

Just asking before using up diskspace for these things.:)

no,  not without a lot of work, and even then, not always possible

I guess they'll work. Why not? They're dynamic, not conforming.

With a bit or rescaling, translation, morph brushing and draping, they'll fit.

yes, I agree. Need a bit tweaking but It work.

I have a dynamic dress for v3 which I use often on v4 as example.

Dresses aren't that hard to use, though if the original character has larger breasts, I always end up with ill fitting folds where the breasts should be. Going from smaller to larger, though, is easy.

I find pants that need to have a constrained waistband to prevent them from falling down to be almost impossible to use on a character with a smaller sized waist and/or hips.

Heck, I can't even get Alyson pants or skirts to fit Anastasia, or V4 pants to fit GND without using Wardrobe Wizard, and even then there tend to be weird distortions around the waistband.

If someone has some tips on doing these kinds of conversions (from larger figure to smaller), I'd be quite interested.

I've made dresses for Mankahoo's Angela that I've seen ppl use on Vicky 4, so yeah - it's possible ;).

I redid a V3 dress for Sydney. I will have to dig it up. Not too hard, but I did it by exporting the .obj file to Wings and refitting it there. You can do it inside Poser by with scaling and translation, but I prefer to export them to fine tune the clothing a bit better.

And I agree with the statement that doing pants is difficult, but I find that if you zero the models using the joint editor that it gets a bit easier.

It's Possible, I have used Dynamic M4 on V4, Dymanic V3 on V4 and visa-versa. In the early days of V4 I needed a Goth look and used a Laura party dress on V4. Scaling x, y and z and drape frames are your friends. Props to push cloth around or support it where needed with the props  invisiable in the render is another trick that helps.

Here is that V3 dress on Sydney. I changed the texture on this also. This was one of the first things I was able to successfully convert using the technique I described above.

I do this often and have even converted conforming into dynamic and put it on another figure. Here is an example of what I've done. This was a dress for Angela and I put it on Antonia. The draping had a problem because the dress was in layers. The sleeves were something from v3 that's conforming. Some of things are easier to do than others. I have a shirt that I was able to fit Sydney, Jessi, Jessi G2, Posette, Vicky 2, Aiko3, Stephanie, and Stephanie Petite with practically no effort.

I do it all the time.  I've got a couple of skirts for P6 Jessica that work better on V4 than some of the V4 skirts do . . .

I've used male items on female figures who have small bosoms to avoid the crease issue mentioned above.  (Shirt / skirt combinations are sometimes necessary, instead of dresses.)  Dynamic outfits are quite versatile.  I can't get a conforming skirt to look good on a sitting character.

I've found it fairly easy to use dynamic clothing on figures other than those it was designed for.  I scale the figure so it fits inside the clothing, then let the figure "grow" back to the "normal" size.  It will stretch the clothing to fit.

This might mean dialing Vicky's boobs from flat in frame 1 to humongous in frame 30, or using the x and or z scale dials to make a figure really skinny in frame one, and huge in frame 30. It may look really weird and unnatural in the first frame, but it doesn't matter.  You're not going to render those frames.

LaurieA ( ) posted Sun, 23 September 2012 at 11:51 PM

To get a dress on a different figure and not have to make the boobs huge, scale the dress the right size you want it to be over the figure you want it to be on (as well as you can), then export the dress (with nothing checked) and import it back in. It'll be scaled and ready to go. You can rename it something else and save it back to the library. Of course you'll need to redo the settings, so maybe jot those down before you export and reimport ;).

i very often use v3 dynamic outfits on v4, svdl made a collection which i often use, just make sure if its got straps you transition it on the y axis so the straps are on top of the shoulder. i think it depends a lot on the density of the mesh, high res outfits seem to sim better than some of the lower ones, but not in every case.

This is all interesting to read. I've always thought of dealing with this to be similar to someone buying clothing for themselves that was two sizes to big. You either exchange it for the right size or rework the fit. Most 3D clothing, even dynamic clothing,  are tailored for the character, or so I always thought. It's interesting to hear the ways folks have gotten around that.

Ive always thought that "Hey ,a 30 frame or so sim, isn't going to cost me much time", to see how it fits, often it's a damn sight quicker than scouring the freebies for an outfit that suits. Scaling is important obviously, but very often i will just get the y axis correct, even if the body pokes through the dress round the boobs and hips and then let the cloth stretch during the sim. I very often use philc's cloth settings on a sim if it doesnt fit just right, it dials in all those fiddly stretchy, resistance settings for you.

I regularly use different character's clothing on other figures via the cloth room. I have little or no spare money being retired on a fixed income so I don't use WW at all as I cannot afford the licences. With a little jiggering most any piece of clothing can fit most any figure. Yes there are some items that don't work or are not worth the fiddleing but I find these to be few and far between. Remember the morph brush is your friend.
