My most recent purchase... and imagine, all of the feedback was glowing.

Jaqui ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 7:57 PM

silverstar, of course it was, for some reason the merchants can accept of refuse any comment on thier product, so why would they leave a negative one in? though such obvious seaming in the texture should have been caught by the testers, and the product fixed before being accepted.

hmatienzo ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 7:57 PM

I have seen products turned away for far less than that! Favoritism???

Oooo not good.. I've let clint know about the thread..

caleb68 ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 8:06 PM

hrm... i was thinking about making some skin textures for 'normal' peoples... what are we looking at here thats the issue(s)? I see the seam line bit, im figuring thats one, but are there others? I'd like to try to make the new 'normal' people i make as good as i can so anything that you can note would be most helpful :)

Jaqui ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 8:08 PM

hmatienzo, it could just have been a product that has been in the marketplace from before the more stringent testing started. favoritism is a nasty subject, that shouldn't be broached until all other's are exhausted. I have seen Stormrage get frustrated while getting her products to pass testing. the testing has been tightened and not all products have been reviewed under the new standards.

Jaqui ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 8:13 PM

caleb, the area around his mouth seems to be mangled...not sure if it is a scar or supposed to be beard stubble. and the seaming. the face is actually usually darker than the rest of the head ( exposure to uv so tanned / weathered ) the last point is not just this product, it is in all textures I have looked at. this one seems to have a bit much red veining in the skin. while it gives a healthy rosy hue, it doesn't work with a close up, like is posted. not sure if it's the render or the tex, but the nostrils are glowing. ~g~

silverstar ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 8:29 PM

I'm just talking about the horrible seams... and the funkieness around his nose. I'm frankly horrified that this got through testing here (it's less than a month old)... and that I paid for it. jaqui - he has stubble and that's probably what you're seeing around the mouth.

hmatienzo ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 8:33 PM

@Jacqui... yes, you are right. I withdraw that comment, but I don't want to delete the post. (I hate those holes in the thread!) Anyway, I don't know whose texture this is, and I don't really WANT to know in public, but I do know that Stormrage does excellent work, and I would trust it eyes closed. ;-) Heike

Crescent ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 8:38 PM

Glowing nostrils are hard to get rid of unless you paint the texture black in that area. That issue isn't a big one to me as it's two seconds in Photoshop. The head seams are a huge issue, though. That's plain unprofessional. I've been hit by that a few times and it really ticks me off. Yes, it can be hidden with hair, but that should be necessary. The obvious head/neck seam is another big issue. This may not be the case here, but I usually see that where the merchant just uses the same body texture with several head textures and doesn't bother to match them. (There's one in particular that is notorious for this, but they haven't been around much lately.) Technically, the head should be a bit darker, but I prefer the skin tones matched. I can always play with the head colors in Poser (taking it just below pure white) if I want to be truly realistic, though evenly matched looks a bit nicer to me. Jaqui - what problem do you see with the mouth? I'm not seeing the problem. Overall, I've been happy with the textures I've bought here and other places, but I have been burned a few times as well. I hope this can get resolved for you, silverstar.

JeffH ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 8:45 PM

silverstar,

I just downloaded and retested your last 2 purchases and none of them have seams like this.

Maybe you should redownload the product.

As Jeff so eloquently pointed out, you've obviouslly imagined the entire thing Silverstar... walks away wondering when was the last time JeffH had his eyes checked

silverstar ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 9:19 PM

I know.. I see dead people too!

queri ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 9:22 PM

I'm sure I've bought this texture, could you let me know in private silverstar-- I want to do my own checking. Emily queri

Well... since I was told that I imagined the whole thing that that it was an error on my own part I downloaded the zip for this product again. Wonder of wonders. The zip is named differently and has files with date stamps that are *very* far apart from those in the original files. And guess what! Though I may be imagining it, there is still a horrid seam at the neck...

Hisminky ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 9:30 PM

I see a seam.

queri ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 9:41 PM

Two different colors for head and neck too. Emily

Silverleif-Studios ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 9:44 PM

I see the seam also...is it possible the material colors for head and body are set differentlly?...Did you use a pre defined mat pose to apply that texture or apply it by hand?

silverstar ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 9:46 PM

They are applied from the MATs... I'll go back and check the material settings just to be sure...

Hisminky ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 10:23 PM

the head color is very different from the neck, it could be that the MAT file is referring to a completely different body texture. Mistakes have been made with MAT files before

caleb68 ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 10:24 PM

looks like they did a update :) thats cool :) I've had troubles matching up the neck n' body seams on stuff i've done its not always the easiest to get the colors just right (expecially where there's a pattern involved egads thats tough!), any tips for that? the face stubble is really hard to get right when working with photo's heh... i tried making one of myself without shaving egads that looked funny as hell ;) one reason i like Syyd's figures Syyd does a really execellent job on faces and bodies.

BlueBeard ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 10:25 PM

Much better, but still that is unacceptable as far as matching head and neck. I think it is plain for everyone to see the head/neck seam!

silverstar ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 10:38 PM

file_32672.jpg

Okay. Above are side by side renders from the zip I downloaded with my pirchase YESTERDAY and the zip I downloaded TODAY after being told that I was wrong in my complaint. I have made an error in the image above by not switching something out. There is now no seam between neck and head with the "new" zip. My problem here now is that when I raised a complaint I was told that I was imagining it (basically) and that it was my problem, and then somewhere behind the scenes files were swapped (the contents of the 2 zips for this texture I have contain totally different time/date stamp information). Why is it that someone didn't just apologize to me, say there had been an error with the files placed for download (or whatever) and then told me the correct files were now available? Will they tell the rest of the purchasers of this item? Now I'm not only upset that I bought something that wasn't what it apparently should have been, but I am upset about the "customer service" I received. Actually, I'm horrified by it... but that's a separate issue I suppose. So, those of you who have contacted me about this texture, be sure to go to your PURCHASES and download it again as the files seem to have changed dramatically since yesterday.

Silverleif-Studios ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 10:50 PM

I still see an itty bitty front to back neck seam, but that could just be my eyes playing tricks on me or some sort of pixelation fluke from image compression... I'm glad you got it all sorted out...Just remember JeffH doesnt speak for the artist who created the product, nor any merchant here, so try not to take his attitude personally... My issue now would be that the new texture is not the one used in the ad renders, they should be changed to reflect the new product...Which appears to have a much more "mat" finish than the origional... It's possible the creator hasnt even seen your post here yet and hence hasnt been given the oportunity to resolve the issue with you...Try to give them the benefit of the doubt until you hear from them, its quite possible that the wrong file was uploaded to the store by mistake its happened on more than one occasion I'm sure...

AprilYSH ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 10:56 PM

hmm, that's strange, you seem to have got a low definition file now than the one you bought, even though now you have no seams. to update zips an admin (JeffH usually) has to be involved. you say you downloaded the seamed one yesterday and the flat unseamed one you got today? so the update happened overnight? with all due respect Jeff, the tone you had there is that silverstar was at fault with the download and/or usage but that's obviously not the case as the vendor updated the zip - and probably with your knowledge. "Now I'm not only upset that I bought something that wasn't what it apparently should have been, but I am upset about the "customer service" I received." see this isn't good for any of us. buyers or sellers :/ the better way to handle it is just let silverstar know she was correct! and the vendor fixed it, and then remind silverstar that product problems should be sent directly to the vendor for quicker handling, and to post in the store contact forum, not the poser forum. smile ;)

Silverleif-Studios ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 11:00 PM

Caleb - A tip for you on matching up seams:(works best with an art program that uses layers which I'll assume we're all using) Create a layer over the texture Delete all but the *dead space from this layer Fill the layer with most general color of the texture Gausian blur the layer(amount **depending on size of texure) This illiminates any color differences in the seams and also illiminates the chance of "white" map poke through *dead space is the space not used on the template for texture, the white areas in between texture areas **amount ratio should be 1/1000, if your map size is 1500x1500 then blur by 1.5 at least You should also go back to your texture layer after doing this and touch up any areas where its an obvious color difference between the Fill/Blur layer and the texture layer. Hope that helps a bit :)

littlefox ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 11:09 PM

Actually I'm a bit caught off guard on this one and more than a bit concerned.... in looking at the two textures.... not only do they seem to have changed drastically from one to the other in the seams but they also seem to have changed drastically in the quality as well. Going from lifelike with veins beneath the skin on the throat and neck, slight imperfections here and there that give it a living feel to a uniform sorta blah texture with no sign of the tiny nuances.... is this true over the whole texture or just around the problem spot of the neck?? While the seams look horrible on the first, at least the skin itself (outside of the seams) looked good, that second one has no definition at all. (And agree on the apology bit.... )

JeffH ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 11:40 PM

The merchant updated the files. It's my job to test and upload the updates.

This is what was done long before this thread ever appeared.

Hisminky ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 11:44 PM

Geeze Jeff, Could you be a little more polite? The tone you set sounds like we should draw straws on who gets to stand in front of the firing squad for a legitimate complaint. You can snipe at me or any other merchant in private, but dear LORD don't treat a customer like that. It's inexcusable.

caleb68 ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 11:49 PM

ah cool :) thanky much silverleaf :)

silverstar ( ) posted Fri, 22 November 2002 at 11:58 PM

Just another note. I have my dates wrong on the image above. I purchased this texture YESTERDAY 11/21 and redownloaded it today 11/22 (my hands are shaking as I am so upset by the way I have been treated by Jeff). I have had contact with the vendor and they have been quite kind about the issue and it has been resolved.

"This is what was done long before this thread ever appeared." Between yesterday and today is a long time? Man, someone needs to replace my dictionary so that I can better comprehend the continual language revisions regularly made around here. Me smell dropped ball, and it wasn't a puddle that ball fell in, neither.

silverstar ( ) posted Sat, 23 November 2002 at 12:29 AM

I'm going to say one last thing here and then I am going to walk away. It was my mistake to let JeffH get involved in this. He clearly has no customer service skills and is not very polite to boot. The moment I contacted the vendor I received a professional and kind note and an offer to remedy the situation in any way that would be suitable for me. THAT is customer service! The staff of this site might not have the skills, but it's clear that the vendors do. :)

You updated the item that quick. Jeff, and to think I've had a product waiting to be updated about a week now.....

Exotica ( ) posted Sat, 23 November 2002 at 12:37 AM

Hello all: I was just alerted to this thread and I am the merchant whose product this is. Regretably, the initial working version of the texture made it into the store rather than the final version. The renders in the ads are of the final version - the one that is in the store now. I should also add that this is the first I've heard of the seam problem and did not receive any negative feedback about the product. I am so sorry if anyone feels that they did not get what they paid for and am more than willing to grant a refund to those who want one. Please accept my sincerest apologies for this huge blunder.

Hisminky ( ) posted Sat, 23 November 2002 at 12:50 AM

Exotica, I don't think anyone here is upset with you. You should have been alerted FIRST, before Jeff stepped in to do his particular flavor of spin control. Clint, is there any way to get a button or an email form for concerns about products, so that customers can by-pass certain admins here that cannot maintain a modicum of courtesy?

Exotica ( ) posted Sat, 23 November 2002 at 12:55 AM

I just feel horrible about this and even worse that the store did not contact me so I could make things right for not only Silverstar but everyone who may have gotten the working version instead of the final version. I am so sorry this has happened.

silverstar ( ) posted Sat, 23 November 2002 at 12:59 AM

Exotica, Don't you feel badly about this. It's partly my fault for not coming to you directly in the first place. For that I am truly sorry. I don't know how the mix up happened, but I'm glad that it has been resolved and I am happy with the product that I have! Thank you for your quick response and for your kindess in this whole situation. It really shows your strength as a merchant and your compassion as well. Again, I'm so sorry....

Stormrage ( ) posted Sat, 23 November 2002 at 1:05 AM

Exotica makes fantastic textures And I truly believe that this was a very big mistake. Exotica, the most you can do is contact the purchasers and let them know what happened, and ask them to redownload.. Silverstar.. It was good that you brought it to Exotica's attention.

Exotica ( ) posted Sat, 23 November 2002 at 1:08 AM

I have notified all of the buyers and truly wish to make this right for anyone.

I agree that this shouldn't have been posted this way. Like this wasn't a lynching in the making. lol It was an honest mistake. Like no ones ever uploaded the wrong file before. Heck I do it constantly with my gallery images. Exotica seems to realize the error now, and is doing everything she can to fix it for all involved. Silverstar has openly apologized for not going to Exotica first. All in all, for the way this thread started out, it's ended fairly well. :) I personally think Exotica is an amazing merchant. And I am sure this was a simple case of uploading the wrong zip file. Well all's well that ends well. I just hope that neither Exotica's or silverstar's reputation is tarnished. As we all know peope tend to ummm, well jump the gun and label people after only knowing half the story and knowing only a fraction of the facts. Just my 2 cents, Cimerone

The merchant was embarrassed by the fact that RO testing didn't catch this.. and The customer was upset enough to post the problem and get.. the attitude or non attitude she got.. So for both.. Exotica and SilverStar.. you both can choose anything from my store, at anytime any store .. and while I know it doesn't help either of you.. I do hope it will help you both to feel a little better. ~stumbling back across this thread after returning home from dinner~ silverstar, glad to hear that the issue has been resolved to your satisfaction. Crescent, in the attached image, I highlighted the areas that stand out as not fitting right. if they are covered with facial hair, even partially, they would have the colour of the hair in question. the colour scheme in the renders for this area is more consistent with scar tissue or being freshly shaven. ( from looking at my own face both before and after shaving. I haven't looked at a lot of textures for the male models, so I do not know if this is normal for them or not. the pose used in silverstar's example renders does make this colouring oddity stand out to my eye. ( can you tell that I have been in the situation of giving constructive critisism a lot? with artists using classic media as well as digital ) a note for mods and admins, while this thread is most appropriately in this forum, it was started in poser forum and was there long enough to have been seen by a number of members ( customers ) moving it with no post stating where and why makes it look like Renderosity is trying to hide something. every post and action taken by any mod or admin, no matter how trivial it seems, has far reaching effects on both the person and Renderosity's reputation. if this is kept in mind, it will reduce the chances of misunderstandings occuring.

yup, whereas a simple post under same heading left in poser forum saying it was here and a link would have left an entirely different impression.

silverstar ( ) posted Sat, 23 November 2002 at 3:34 AM

I keep saying that I am going to walk away from this, but I am feeling so terrible that I simply cannot without saying just a few more things. I made a horrible error in judgement here. I was not "out to get" anyone with this message. It was really just a comment on the quality control issue. I should have handled it differently but I didn't and that is something that I have to live with. Exotica has been amazing in fixing the error and now that I have the correct files the texture renders just as I had hoped. I don't know that I could have been as kind or gracious as she was under the same circumstances. As for JeffH. Until today I had never had any kind of contact with him, and it seems that I read more into his "straight forward" nature than I should have. For that I am sorry as well. I have never meant anyone harm in any of these postings... that's not in my nature and it was most certianlly not my intention.

Jaqui ( ) posted Sat, 23 November 2002 at 5:14 AM

silverstar, I never thought you were "out to get" anyone. I thought you were miffed ( understandably so ) that the quality wasn't what you expected. you may have taken a wrong turn in how you chose to express your concerns, but that's past now. if Exotica had not come in and stated that (s)he was the merchant, I would never have known which merchant. I do agree that the RMP testers fell down on the job in this case, but in that sense, this thread does the comunity as a whole a service, it brought the issue into the light of day ( so to speak ) which can only help improve the situation in the future. by the last, your public thread is actually a good thing, not something to be upset about. ( grin) hey it proves that the Merchants are human too, and make mistakes on occasion. also that most of them will do what is needed to satisfy the customer. ( been bad, reading over Stormrage's shoulder about this issue ) and most ( if not all ) merchants would have responed exactly the same way Exotica did. taught us all to contact the merchant if we have a problem. ~l~
