I don't have Poser 5, but from what I understand, the DAZ characters were modeled from 3D scans of actual live human models, while Curious Labs modeled Judy, et al, by hand. That makes a huge difference in the quality. What I've seen of Judy, she's pathetically cartoony compared to Vicki. Her face looks flat and lifeless, while Vicki has a lot more dimension. Same with Michael vs. Don, etc. In my opinion, there's no comparison. And the price of the DAZ characters is really quite reasonable compared to some other companies that make human figures costing thousands for one figure. And DAZ often has sales. Watch for the DAZ originals sales that often give up to 35% off on all DAZ original items, which Vicki and Mike are. There are also lower resolution DAZ figures that are good. If you're not doing extreme closeups, they look just like the higher res figures, and they cost less. Oh, and by the way, I don't work for DAZ. LOL

Thanks, Cooler, that's interesting. Last week in church, they had a little question and answer quiz and it was asked, "How many wise men were there at the first Christmas?" and of course, everyone said three. The answer was that the number is not mentioned in the Bible, just that three gifts (gold, incense, and myrrh) were brought, but no mention of how many wise men actually came. My the way, Merry Christmas, everyone! :) Melanie

Wow, how did you find all that information? Did you google it? And interestingly enough, even Jesus Christ wasn't born on Christmas. He was born sometime in the spring. How we came to celebrate His birthday in December is a mystery. Some monk or someone back some centuries ago tampered with the calendar, and things got messed up, is what I've heard. Melanie

Okay. I wondered. Seems strange that they wouldn't just celebrate the history of Victoria, all the way back to the beginning of her existence. Thanks for clearing it up. I don't think I remember reading that distinction between versions at the DAZ site. Melanie

The .obj says 3/24/00. That sounds about when I bought it, because my birthday is 3/29, and I know I bought her for my birthday. I'm pretty sure I didn't wait three months to buy her. I was sure I bought her when she first appeared. Here's some trivia, the file is in a folder called Zygote People. The original Vicki and Mike were made by Zygote! That's taking us back a ways, eh? I agree, Fishnose. My mother always used to say, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." In other words, don't complain about something that's freely given. I think DAZ is great for all they give to their customers. I appreciate every little thing I can get. Maybe I just see things differently from other folks, but what's wrong with the unimesh? I've seen some amazing characters created with these products. Vicki and Mike, et al, don't have to all look alike. With some creativity and good use of morphs, they can look very different. Melanie

This is sad to hear. Over the years, there have been lots of Trek stuff, Star Wars, etc. I can't see what's so wrong with it. As long as nothing is being sold for profit, which would violate copyright, what's the problem? In the past, there have been some studios, publishers, etc., that considered the fan art as "free advertising," and actually welcomed it. Too bad these things keep happening. Big shrug!!! Melanie
