I'm sure Varian was kidding when he compared BUZZ to Piranesi. There is a reason why Piranesi costs $700- because it does these BUZZ effects in TRUE 3D! That's much different than a 2-D filter... However, I do like what BUZZ does and will order it. I especially like the "painterly" color-reduction effects. I have actually been in this digital painting 'racket' for many years. It seems only in the past year or so have people really begun to 'discover' it (digital media and how to make it look like "art"...) I highly recommend you check out the link above where you can see how more people are 'getting away' with this AND making good money too. (That's how I can afford to buy all these neat toys...)Thread: It's quite...yeah...too quite! | Forum: Vue
BTW SmallSpace, the Doolittle Raid actually did happen, and just four months after the Pearl Harbor attack. It was even more heroic than shown in the movie if you know the full story. Also, unfortunately not made clear, and actually deserving of a totally different movie, was that the Doolittle Raid lead directly to the massive Japanese Naval defeat at Midway and the turning point of the Pacific War... I'm working on a series of scenes about this. The De Espona collection has a fantastic collection of U.S. and Japanese aircraft from this period. Wish I had Vue 4 right NOW!...

Interesting to hear about the De Espona deal... Unfortunately, when people heard that Michael Bay was doing the "Pearl Harbor" deal, (and having seen "Armageddon" and "The Rock", or whatever it was called) it was a foregone conclusion that it would be heavy action special effects but low on the acting end. It's not the actors fault, it's just the way Bay makes his movies. He DID get the 40's "look" down extremely well, better than most people expected, but didn't fully learn from James Cameron's "Titanic" that for all the great history and special effects, you still need to have real character depth and motivated actors with good scripts...

All backup info is GOOD INFO... It's getting to be a war-zone on the internet- my hardware and software firewalls get hit all the time and entire websites are being knocked down in some cases. I would advise EVERYONE to create a fully restorable backup of their key C: drive settings and all other key files on other drives. There are people lurking at Renderosity and elsewhere who seem to want to get into everyone's computer to do bad things and you need to be very careful...

Yes I agree with you there Cheers. I love new advances in technology but have learned (the hard way) not to be TOO FAR ahead! I like to see a technology around for at least a year before I will jump on it. Windows 2000 has gone through a lot of seasoning and is very good and very stable. Win XP MAY BE fantastic too, but I'll wait for a year there too to see how it shakes out... Same with P4 chips, I am ready now buy a fast Dual P3 system because all the major bugs are out of them, and all the major software works o.k. on them. P4 may yet be a bit risky, plus RAM for them is VERY EXPENSIVE right now. But because of the looming P4 releases, it will then DRIVE DOWN the P3 prices as "old technology", making a Dual P3 a very attractive and relatively inexpensive purchase...

As a major Coco Palm fan, Vue has the best in any software around. But Jeez! They've even made them MORE REALISTIC based upon the new Vue 4 image at the E-On website. I'm so continually blown away by the increasing high quality renders and effects that are possible, and WILL BE POSSIBLE, that... (It BOGGLES MY MIND!!!)...

Great timing and fast work! By the time Vue 4 comes out there will be an excellent Poser-Vue project management software which I can use on my DVD-RAM system! This has been a series of "Dreams Come True". I can't see anything stopping me now from doing the kind of work and large scale projects I've always wanted to do... Believe me, if you really THINK ABOUT THIS, a Vue 4, Poser 4 and P3dO package is SO POWERFUL from a PRODUCTIVITY and PROJECT MANAGEMENT perspective that... (sorry, I'm choking up folks,... sniff... What a wonderful world...)

DON'T get a DVD-RW, Get a DVD-RAM. It is a VERY CONFUSING situation right now as there are all kinds of competiting DVD formats from Pioneer, Sony, etc. PLUS, people confuse all this with DVD Video players and recorders. They are all different formats and often incompatible... DVD-RAM is a format supported by Panasonic, Hitachi and Toshiba and it is becoming the "CD-ROM - CD-RW (read ISO-9660, Rockwell, etc) format of choice among people and companies who back-up large amounts of data. DVD-RAM will read Video, RW and other formats INCLUDING CD-ROM, but only WRITES to DVD-RAM format. I've researched this whole issue and DVD-RAM is the best choice, I think. And currently, the fastest and best reviewed drive is the Hitachi GF-2050...

Actually I trust the E-On guys. They have always delivered the goods as far as I am concerned. There always has been, and always will be, whinning about everything. If there are bugs I'm sure they will be fixed much faster than some other companies that I won't mention... I'm used to doing lots of post work in Photoshop anyway, and I routinely combine all kinds of programs to get the results I want. Vue 4 will just make it MUCH FASTER to get to where I want to go, and any little things I can fix in post-work... Since Vue 3.1 runs under a Dual Win 2K environment NOW, I don't think they will have any significant problems in that area. There probably WILL be a Vue 4.1 and I think it will probably include even more features. I Think they are already able to run Poser animations now, but are keeping it in the "back room" until they are sure it is fairly bug free... All the George Lucas wannabe "animators" whine about all their "animation problems" all the time.(Much of it because they are running on CRAPPY little computers and barely know what they are doing anyway- just go to the Bryce Forum) I don't blame E-On for saving animation for a later version update...

That's why I hope Yarp will impliment a VOB file viewer in an upcoming "Poser Vue Explorer". He said he would seriously look at supporting Vue files. It would make a really WONDERFUL project management software for Poser-Vue users... Actually 9.2 Gigs ain't that big, at least to me anyway. I have a process that requires storing lots of data to achieve the end results, which are often huge files post-worked in Photoshop. I also bought 10 9.2 cartridges so I can have an array of software projects "hot-swappable", but with the security back-up features of Optical storage. The new DVD-RAM's are extremely fast, unlike the older CD-RW's that use the "tiny" 650 MB format... Imagine too, if a virus or diskcrash happens in your C Drive? With DVD-RAM you can have all the key files totally backed up and ready to restore again. It's a great safety-net feature in today's world...

Dual P4 2Ghz running Win XP are already in the "backrooms". Look for them around late summer, early Fall in the U.S. This is actually a great time to be buying hardware as the computer industry has been in a slump and deals for power machines are everywhere... They will need the dual P4 Xp'er's this Fall to re-hype the buying market. I suggest Intel, Dell, Compaq and Gateway use VUE 4 as their tradeshow demo app to blow away the crowds (I would suspect XP will run "legacy apps" that run under Win 2K)...
